  • Wonderful and poignant music. What a beautiful and lasting tribute. Thank you.

  • I like this version...it has all of the right somberness for the occasion for which it was written. God Bless.

  • Thanks for the nice comment. Makes it all worthwhile

  • Hi Graham i really enjoyed this piece, brings a tear to my eye every time i hear it.

just a little history on it.The tune was 1st recorded in Canada by the 1st Bn.Queens Own Highlanders and yes Gordan Mackenzie was the composer. he wrote this tune to commemorate the 4 young Scottish soldiers who lost thier lives due to friendly fire during the Gulf conflict, yours Tosh 37 Ex Q.O.Hldrs

  • Cheers for the offer graham. Will let you know if i have any problems finding it.

  • Your right GRAHAM. I've spoken to my old man who is very friendly with his Father, I know him quite well. He joined the Queens Own when I joined the paras. Haven't seen him for many years as I've been told he was working out in the middle east teaching the pipes.

i've now got the pipe music to the tune, but will now need to find the fiddle music, as my daughter is desperate to learn it.

  • If you've problems getting it, I MIGHT mangage to transcribe it using band in a box

  • @graham1281

Cheers for the offer Graham. Will let you know if I have any problems getting a hold of the music.

  • Was this tune not composed by a lewis man, who served in Kuwait with the Queens own highlanders during the first gulf war. It nearly moves me to tears every time I here the tune. Great tune, I may call down to see his parents for a copy of this tune to see if my daughter can play it on the fiddle

  • As far as I know it was composed By LCpl Gordon MacKenzie, to commemorate the involvement of the 1st Battalion Queen's Own Highlanders(Seaforth & Camerons), in the conflict.

I've heard it played as a slow air on the fiddle and it sounds lovely !

  • Was this tune not composed by a lewis man? Did he not serve in kuwait with queens own highlanders during the first gulf war.

What a tune, It nearly moves me to tears every time I here it play.

  • I know the Highlanders version. This is also very good! And a lovely story attached to this music if anyone cares to look it up!

    Good luck Graham.

  • Thanks for the nice comment. It's a great tune and yeah, I do know the story behind it.

  • Thanks Graham, I've just located it . It has to be up there with the most beautiful of all Scottish melodies.

  • I have searched for Quendale Bay and can not find it. Has it been removed ? Beautiful playing Graham.

  • Thanks, it won't let me post the link, but Quendale bat IS in my videos. I've just checked

  • Graham, This is absolutely superb and credit to you for playing it by ear. To all who is asking, Gordon Patullo has an arrangement of this tune written for accordion.

    All the best.

  • Thanks for the very nice comment. This version is my own arrangement, so I'm deilighted you enjoyed it

  • Grande esecuzione!

    Ciao :o)

  • i went to boarding school in Edinburgh as a young lad, now 28 i have given my girlfriend specific instructions to have this song played at my funeral..wish i knew the chords or how to interpret this song on acoustic guitar. anybody have an idea??

  • Superb I lost my nephew in Iraq We love you

  • Awwww, sorry to hear that, glad you liked it. I'm sorry I took so long in replying, this comment sliiped through the 'net ' somehow and I only noticed it just now.

  • I've used my own interpretation and didn't keep the chords I used. The tune on the accordion is played in D, so using basic chords such as D, Bm , A7 etc... should give you an idea I hope

  • Ex Queens Own Highlander here the original artists to perform this tune on the pipes. You played this to perfection still brings a tear to the eye, very well done.

  • THAT sir is one of the nicest compliments I could have received. Thank you

    Graham

  • The first time I heard this tune was at the Longs Peak Tattoo in Estes Park Colorado. It was played by the massed pipes including Toronto, Ghurkas, and brass. It was so inspirational.

Great video and great accordion! I love this instrument!

  • It gives me pleasure to know that people are enjoying my music. Thanks

  • Another tear jerker...this is beautiful! I could listen to your music all day. Sitting here in my father's (and mother's) living room, missing them, their stories of home in Scotland and Norway, it's a fitting backdrop for this house. This is quite soothing and evocative of those lost days.

  • Thanks Louise, it's a lovely tune and one I've enjoyed playing for years

  • Listening to such nice music and wishing if the images in the video are indeed in Kuwait. Alas! It never shall be.
