I wonder if Ed Boon as the announcer in MK1 was supposed to be Shang Tsung just like how Steve Ritchie played Shao Kahn vocally in MK2, I've always wondered that.
a few months ago, I asked Steve Ritchie if he would voice Shao Kahn in a MK fan film my friend was gonna make, he said he would definately love to do that. STEVE RITCHIE= SHAO KAHN FTW!!!
I think it'd be pretty bad ass if they just had all the voices doing something in the game. Ed Boon as announcer, Steve Ritchie as Shao Kahn, & that guy from MK4 as.......I don't know maybe a story narrator or something.

To be honest, I like the new announcer. Not sure about the new Shao Kahn, but the new announcer sounds really nasty when he says "Finish Him" or "Finish Her".
i grew up with MK... and i love MK1 and MK2, But i have to say this new MK (MK9) is by far the best 1 ever made... Yes you can argue that MK1, MK2, MK3 and so on and so forth, are the best.... but you cant deny that this MK is just pure genius... Ive stop living in the past, and moved on... But the older MK's will never go out of style ;) that is for sure.
Regarding the Resident Evil 3ds game (not sure if this was covered at some point in the comments), the reason it's like this now is because, when you savethe game, the game is there for life. There is no way to delete it. So places like EB games etc won't sell it pre-owned anymore. Also, agreed with the Shao Kahn voice. Steve Richie IS Shao Kahn. However, I do like the new Kahn. His laugh when he wins a match sounds so royal and proper.
@ImNoGoth1 Yes you cant delete the save file but eb dont want to sell it cause they thought you could only play the game on the system it made the save file on or something. They could still trade and sell it, it would just make a new save file on each system

i personally liked mk1 (arcade), mk trilogy (psx), mk shaolin monks, mk sub-zero, and mk gold the most. i like mk trilogy better than ultimate mk 3, mk 3, & mk 2 kuz it has all 3 of them plus mk 1 combined into one game. with the music from 2, 3, and Umk 3

I love MK1 and ADORE MK2, but comparing these with MK9 is like comparing Super Street Fighter II to Super Street Fighter IV. They're all very awesome games in their own right, the story and characters are amazing, but they're different mediums; good in their own way.

TotalMK I think when it comes to original character voices like Steve Ritchie for Shao Kahn that some companies just don't give a shit like take the man who played Shang Tsung in the Mortal Kombat movie for example.

Sure, I'd love to have Steve Ritchie back. I really do think the new guy's alright though, and I won't throw a fit if he returns as Shao Kahn in the future. But if they brought Toasty back, they can bring back the original announcers!
@yonoid88 That probably is the reason why it's not there anymore. I might get it, even though I already have each of those in some way, shape or form; MK1 as a Plug-n-Play controller, MK2 on PS3, and UMK3 on DS.
I agree that Steve Ritchie should voice Shao Kahn but I would also like him to voice the announcer since his voice sounded so so dreary and deep. It's hard to decide.

The gameplay is flawless tho I can't argue with that, but over all I liked the stories in MK: Armageddon and MK VS DCU better, they didn't kill everyone off, turn Liu Kang and Kung Lao into assholes, Raiden into a fool and rob Shang Tsung of the roles he played in MK3, also MK2 is the best MK ever

@TheFaisalano I also liked the story in Armgeddon with Taven on a quest to save the realms, it made me want to see what happened with Daegon, how long before Taven did he awaken? How did he fall in with the likes of Shinnok? Why did he kill his parents? The rebot just disapointed me especally with the unnessessary changes that were made and Sindel killing everyone off and giving the souls to Quan Chi was just shock value and unnessessary. It changed TOO MANY things that didn't need it

And the reason Sindel was able too pwn them is because she had Shang Tsung's power.
Armageddon was pretty bad imo, I tryed too mask in too many things and ended up just linking stuff with no explanation for the sake of putting X charecter in.
And I loved the surprise in the end, I was shocked too see all of them dead just like that, It really made me want too kill Shao...lol.
@TheFaisalano Anlother thing that really pissed me off about the game Shang was treated like shit along with the rest of the characters who weren't Quan Chi, I liked Armaageddons story and gameplay but to each their own. I was angry at the ending, seeing them all dead mabe me wasnt to Kill Ed Boon who has shown disrespect to the fans and his creations since Deadly Alliance. I was angry at the creator not the characters because the story was horribly executed and born of bad canon.
@TheFaisalano Yea I wouldn't have been happy that lots of my favoirates were deadbut it would have left Raiden, Liu Kang Shinnok, Taven and Daegon to try to pick up the pieces and it would have made for a better ending in my opponion. Because there, their deaths would have ment something, here the deaths of the hero's amounted to nothing but shock value
@thunderstudent except for Nightwolf, his death was the only one with some sort of dignaty which was ruined by giving the hero's souls to Quan fucking Chi who was waaaaaay out of character

@TheFaisalano That's not what pissed me off, what pissed me off is that they wemt so far from the origional stories in the origional trilogy, also the cercomstances did't make sence, again Taven was the one who defeated Blaze NOT Shao Kahn, that was established in both the opening and konquest mode for Armageddon. I wanted to see what happened next after Taven became a God with almosT everyone on both sides dead.

No more are tehre the useless charecters, the cuttered story, the fan favorites changed into ways that they shouldnt have, and no fucked over charecters.
They went and shit on the story established by 20 years of games and went against what was set up in Armageddon just so they can further shit onm the story and characters. I liked many opf those so called useless characters, by the way it was confirmed Havok, Bo'rai'chi and all those characters from after mk3 are still around. Shujinko and the sons of Argus are still out there because their stories began years and centuries before MK1. SO YOUR POINT IS MUTE.

Let Raiden, Liu Kang Taven, Shinnok and Daegon pick up the pieces as it should have been and let their characters develop that way they people will START to like them. The story for MK 2011 is fail, the execution fail the voice acting is fail, the unnessesary changes to the origional story which was perfectly fine was fail and the character changes were fail IT WAS NOTHING BUT EPIC FAILURE

@TheFaisalano You're missing the point, besides Taven was NOTHING like Liu Kang, And I wouldn't have hated it because it would be a new begining allowing the surviving characters from, Armageddon to branch out, this story is fail because it changed too many details unnessessicerly and at times arbatraily. Yes, I'd be unhappy with most of the hero's and villians being dead but it would give the survivors a chance to grow and rebuild the shattered MK universe without shitting on the canon
@TheFaisalano Also Shujinko was like a moden day Chameleon except he used moves from everyone not just the ninja's and that's part of what I liked about him, also I became attached to him as I played the konquest mode, Onaga's deception made me made at Onaga, Shao Kahn having Sindel kill everyone in MK 2011 madfe me pissed off at Ed Boon
@TheFaisalano MK VS DCU was not canon number 2 I liked many of the new characters, I thought Taven, Kenshi, Ashera, Li mei and Bo'Rai'Cho were pretty cool. I liked the whole story of Deception with Shujinko going around trying to find the kamedogu for the eldergods only to find he was fooled since he was a child and took it apon himself to unite warriors of light and darkness to aid him in putting right what he did.
MK1 & MK2 are the best the only reason people say MK9 is the best is because they didnt grow up with MK they are just getting into MK by this game without learning and experiencing the nostalgia of the BEST MK GAMES OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!
I miss the big random "Ohhhhhh!" and "Excellent!" or "Superb!" or how bout "Well Done!" when you nail a big uppercut or roundhouse.....Thats a big missing piece for me seems small but the random uppercut "Ohhhhh!" that shit is the stuff....

For me, what I liked best about the old announcers was...it was the game's BOSS doing the announcing. It fit the plot. Ed was doing an old asian man voice to fit Shang because Shang ran the tournament, and Steve Ritchie in 2 (and 3) was Kahn and the announcer because Kahn WAS the announcer, he ran that tournament.
I wish they'd go back to having the announcer be the boss instead of just a gameplay element that isn't part of the story.

@TotalMK I would go MK2 > MK1/MK9 > MKT, you are right there MK & MK2 are just awesome I do love MK9. Got to respect the roots though because without MK & MK2 there would be no MK9. MK & MK2 just had so much mystery in the game and it was just a solid game all around, MK9 I think would have a lot of that same mystery behind it if the internet didnt exist along with people dissecting every lil thing in the games code to find things, but I agree new school is awesome but old school is king
@TheFaisalano I know where you are coming from and trying to say, but I follow a lot of fighting game news sites to follow MK as well as other fighting games I like. Anytime anything was figured out about people dissecting the code of MK9 it was put on those sites and it kinda takes away from the mystery where back when early MK games came out it was mainly just rumors and word of mouth because very few people had internet back then. just so much was leaked about mk9 right before its release

@TotalMK you like MK1 then MK2 the best, with me it's the other way around, MK2 then MK1 and yeah Steve Ritchie is my fav announcer, his voice was so awesome. I really don't like that new announcer, listen when he says "Feel the wrath of Shao Kahn" in MK9. Then compare it to Steve. MK9 version sounds like joke.

@GamingandMetal6 I know...and many people dont realise how BROKEN the original MK's are, every charetcer had lile, over 10 easy too do infinites, people think they're tournmante level becuase they have some competition for them, for god sake Shaq Fu had some competitions...lol.

yea it was very disappointing that Steve wasn't the voice of Shao Kahn again eventhough the new voice isn't that bad if you never heard Steve Ritchie and was hoping for Ed Boon to be an alternate announcer oh well.

Sure, I'd love to have Steve Ritchie back. I really do think the new guy's alright though, and I won't throw a fit if he returns as Shao Kahn in the future. But if they brought Toasty back, they can bring back the original announcers!

I agree that Steve Ritchie should voice Shao Kahn but I would also like him to voice the announcer since his voice sounded so so dreary and deep. It's hard to decide.

The gameplay is flawless tho I can't argue with that, but over all I liked the stories in MK: Armageddon and MK VS DCU better, they didn't kill everyone off, turn Liu Kang and Kung Lao into assholes, Raiden into a fool and rob Shang Tsung of the roles he played in MK3, also MK2 is the best MK ever

@TheFaisalano I also liked the story in Armgeddon with Taven on a quest to save the realms, it made me want to see what happened with Daegon, how long before Taven did he awaken? How did he fall in with the likes of Shinnok? Why did he kill his parents? The rebot just disapointed me especally with the unnessessary changes that were made and Sindel killing everyone off and giving the souls to Quan Chi was just shock value and unnessessary. It changed TOO MANY things that didn't need it

And the reason Sindel was able too pwn them is because she had Shang Tsung's power.
Armageddon was pretty bad imo, I tryed too mask in too many things and ended up just linking stuff with no explanation for the sake of putting X charecter in.
And I loved the surprise in the end, I was shocked too see all of them dead just like that, It really made me want too kill Shao...lol.

@TheFaisalano Anlother thing that really pissed me off about the game Shang was treated like shit along with the rest of the characters who weren't Quan Chi, I liked Armaageddons story and gameplay but to each their own. I was angry at the ending, seeing them all dead mabe me wasnt to Kill Ed Boon who has shown disrespect to the fans and his creations since Deadly Alliance. I was angry at the creator not the characters because the story was horribly executed and born of bad canon.

@TheFaisalano Yea I wouldn't have been happy that lots of my favoirates were deadbut it would have left Raiden, Liu Kang Shinnok, Taven and Daegon to try to pick up the pieces and it would have made for a better ending in my opponion. Because there, their deaths would have ment something, here the deaths of the hero's amounted to nothing but shock value

@TheFaisalano That's not what pissed me off, what pissed me off is that they wemt so far from the origional stories in the origional trilogy, also the cercomstances did't make sence, again Taven was the one who defeated Blaze NOT Shao Kahn, that was established in both the opening and konquest mode for Armageddon. I wanted to see what happened next after Taven became a God with almosT everyone on both sides dead.

I liked many opf those so called useless characters, by the way it was confirmed Havok, Bo'rai'chi and all those characters from after mk3 are still around. Shujinko and the sons of Argus are still out there because their stories began years and centuries before MK1. SO YOUR POINT IS MUTE.

Let Raiden, Liu Kang Taven, Shinnok and Daegon pick up the pieces as it should have been and let their characters develop that way they people will START to like them. The story for MK 2011 is fail, the execution fail the voice acting is fail, the unnessesary changes to the origional story which was perfectly fine was fail and the character changes were fail IT WAS NOTHING BUT EPIC FAILURE

@TheFaisalano You're missing the point, besides Taven was NOTHING like Liu Kang, And I wouldn't have hated it because it would be a new begining allowing the surviving characters from, Armageddon to branch out, this story is fail because it changed too many details unnessessicerly and at times arbatraily. Yes, I'd be unhappy with most of the hero's and villians being dead but it would give the survivors a chance to grow and rebuild the shattered MK universe without shitting on the canon

@TheFaisalano MK VS DCU was not canon number 2 I liked many of the new characters, I thought Taven, Kenshi, Ashera, Li mei and Bo'Rai'Cho were pretty cool. I liked the whole story of Deception with Shujinko going around trying to find the kamedogu for the eldergods only to find he was fooled since he was a child and took it apon himself to unite warriors of light and darkness to aid him in putting right what he did.

For me, what I liked best about the old announcers was...it was the game's BOSS doing the announcing. It fit the plot. Ed was doing an old asian man voice to fit Shang because Shang ran the tournament, and Steve Ritchie in 2 (and 3) was Kahn and the announcer because Kahn WAS the announcer, he ran that tournament.
I wish they'd go back to having the announcer be the boss instead of just a gameplay element that isn't part of the story.

@TheFaisalano I know where you are coming from and trying to say, but I follow a lot of fighting game news sites to follow MK as well as other fighting games I like. Anytime anything was figured out about people dissecting the code of MK9 it was put on those sites and it kinda takes away from the mystery where back when early MK games came out it was mainly just rumors and word of mouth because very few people had internet back then. just so much was leaked about mk9 right before its release
