@MondoMiniman Valve determined which class would get a secret item (gunboats) by recording every kill that soldiers made on demomen and vise versa. The class that killed the other most got the item. Demoman ended up killing more soliers, but art submissions for soldier won a seperate art contest overwhelmingly and landed the soldier with the new item.

@naaahist The Gunboats. The code is in the files to give either one the Gunboats, all Valve had to do before release was remove the Demoman part. You can even re-enable it in your own server with a couple of lines.

I usually get quite a few assist kills from the afterburn of the Flare Gun, and I sometimes get a good streak going of Huntsman kills, but I agree. For me at least, kills are a little too rare to call OP.

I've seen some better players use the Huntsman (mainly Huntsman, Flare Gun I've only heard a few cases of being OP) being used properly, and it's quite the show. Then again, Sniper Rifle Snipers can do the same thing more or less, and I'd need to kill someone if they claimed Rifle was OP.

My issue is, that Soldiers didn't really need the Gunboats. As it is, Demomen take more damage when they sticky jump than Soldiers when they rocket jump, and then the Soldiers catch the break on that one? Sure, why not.

I met a LOT of people that say the Huntsman is OP, speaking of which. Sure, it's powerful, but it's balanced by the fact hitboxes have LONG since been fixed, so really good aim is required.

The Targe, IMO, was a little OP before Valve nerfed it. Seriously, rockets just bounced off him. Now, it's better. He still can take rockets well, but not an OP well.

Some people even say the Flare Gun is OP, which I don't quite understand. Yes, it does good damage...after a minute or two of afterburn.

Play...basically any class enough to avoid being weapon heckled, and Scouts die faster than any other class. If you suck at avoiding getting weapon heckled, play Engie. Sentries will kill Scouts for you. Either way, Scouts need to get upclose and personal to do any good damage, so any good, or even decent, Soldier, Pyro, or Heavy (someone that strives in close range) that's alert can take Scouts down.

@typhooni8 : Weapon heckling is when you move close to get strong damage in, and move away when the opponent switches to a close-range weapon. That second or two it takes to switch is free damage.

Example: Scout vs Pyro. At medium-long range, Scouts are impossible to hit with your main, so Pyros should switch to Shotgun. When they switch, Scout charges in with Scattergun/FaN, so Pyros which to their flamethrowers again, where Scouts run away and use Pistol. It's hard to master, but very helpful
