Our best male athletes are in other sports. I say "male" because the females have embraced the sport and are incredible. American Males could do the same if they wanted.
There is so much talent lost to those other sports. Not just the athletes that make it pro but those other athletes that are "just not big enough" to play in the NFL and NBA.
6'2, and under 200 pounds go lost because they trained their entire life to play in the NFL and NBA sports but were just "to small" to make it. Only so many positions can be filled with smaller athletes.
Take those athletes from when they are young, let them embrace World-Football, and let them know this is a sport for the average sized man, and they may take to it. Of course, you would also need improving of coaching.
But the key is to still get that talent first. Most of the time, nature takes her course and the poor kids tend to be the ones that play "free" and develop and use their imagination to be incredible players.
You relize alot of People in the US are going nuts because he turned his back on the country of birth and the one he grew up in until he was 13. IT looks like rossi by the time he is 26 is going to be a top 3 best player in the world, and he ident playing for huis country he grew up in and where he first played in the streets.

I made a research about American footballer players who haven't been born in USA.
Stuart Holden, born in Aberdeen, Scotland moved to Texas at age 10.
Benny Feilhaber, Jewish and born in Rio De Janeiro, moved to America at age 6.
Pablo Mastroeni, born in Mendoza, Argentina, with Italian-Argentinian heritage.
And Freddy Adu, born in Tema, Ghana and moved to USA at age eight when his mother won the Green Card Lottery.
But there are players whose parents were born in other countries.

I think its because the USA dominates at so many other sports that they are unwelcomed in the football world. Im from the UK, but I recognise the talents of players such as Jozy Altidore, Landon Donovan (who is premiership quality if you ask me) and others. Rossi was never going to pick the USA over Italy though, especially as it is his father who comes from the latter.

His case is worse than Rossi, he only came to the USA at 15 because his mum won a green card! ANyway he ended up being omitted from the world cup squad, who went on to lose to Ghana anyway. Im of Ghanaian heritage, and was shocked to see him just dismiss his home nation like that.

He lived in america with italian parents till he was 13 but he grew up the most important years for an athlete career here in Italy. He trained up here, he learn the real soccer here. If he had been in America till today he would have trained up probably with girls in a low category athletic facility, hidden to the world of soccer! And even bruce arena would have ignored him.

Our best male athletes are in other sports. I say "male" because the females have embraced the sport and are incredible. American Males could do the same if they wanted.
There is so much talent lost to those other sports. Not just the athletes that make it pro but those other athletes that are "just not big enough" to play in the NFL and NBA.

6'2, and under 200 pounds go lost because they trained their entire life to play in the NFL and NBA sports but were just "to small" to make it. Only so many positions can be filled with smaller athletes.
Take those athletes from when they are young, let them embrace World-Football, and let them know this is a sport for the average sized man, and they may take to it. Of course, you would also need improving of coaching.
