@dannylko Keep in mind that this is old English dubbing (about 1993). I will agree that dubs used to suck, but they've improved immensely with the years. Try a more recent one without having watched the sub beforehand. In my opinion at least, preference of audio nowadays comes down to whichever you saw first and are used to.

@KitKatStudios i agree they've improved but the fact is, they must still match the lip movements that the characters make that fits the original japanese audio. This means there are lots of instances where they must improvise and use different words that might otherwise change the meaning of some words. Either that or they have to speak when there should be silence to fully convey the message. So you see, either it's horrible voice acting or the full "ambience" is ruined.

@dannylko The words may change, but they're changed to where the lips fit and the same root meaning remains. It doesn't have to be literal. Another job of the dubbers is to keep the "ambience" intact. In situations where it matters, they make sure lines end where they should, keeping the impact of the deliverance. Lastly, dubbing isn't an "either-or" thing anymore. There are some shows that have been considered better dubbed than subbed, like FMA or Cowboy Bebop. Take this from a sub & dub fan.
