Karanatic=karna Ear by listening one learns this there r no letters & books the teacher taught it & the pupil listen to it & learn it Karana(ear ) music.no connexion with present day karanataka to it
Good Try. However, ignorance should never be an excuse. Karnatic music has everything to do with present day Karnataka. It was Sri. Purandara Dasa who perfected this musical system. Thus the name Carnatic or Karnatic Music.
I don't know why artists and Carnatic Musical lovers particularly from Tamil Nadu and Andhra are in denial of this fact.
Dear PandyaRaja --Tyagaraja swamy is singing in praise of Lord Rama,, Rama please save me. Cheema lo -- from ant to Bramha you dwell in every being oh Sitarama, Next - Meppulakai - he says - for vanity sake one should not take loans and be boastful - if one is not doing any wrong deeds that it self brings one glory .. etc...
This is one of the sacred verses by Thyagaraja. Those who like carnatic music, Sri Rama, Thyagaraja and MS amma will surely like this awsome composing... MS amma is suitable for the voice and expressions imagined about Sri Rama by St Thyagaraja... Many thanks for posting this...
Its called Karnatic music( I know it has nothing to do with Karnataka). The lyrics are Telugu and the eloquent voice is by Tamils. What a great integration!!
This shows your shallow knowledge which is dangerous and chauvinistic in tone.
Carnatic Music orginated in Karnataka under Shri Purandhara Dasa the musical saint . He is known as the "Pitamah" of Carnatic Music and his compositions number into the 10s of thousands. He was the "Mano Guru" of Saint Thyagaraja.
Infact Shri Purandhara Dasa introduced the raga Mayamalavagowla as the basic scale for music instruction and fashioned series of graded lessons.
If I were chauvinistic I wouldn't have admired the integration I elaborated.
My opinion, which you seem feel offended is not my own but what many said .
I am open to correction. And I humbly say my knowledge of classic music is minimal and I only said a passing comment. If that has offended you, I am sorry. I admire Kannidigas and they are after all cousins of telugus. So take it cool friend.
If you acknowledge that Carnatic Music originated formally in Karnataka and Shri Purandara Dasa is its Pitamah, then my missive to correct your earlier opinion has been accomplished.
If you have a ear for good music you will enjoy listening to the following compositions by Shri Purandara Dasa
@vsimha actually carnatic music is not originated in karnataka only.... but it was lined into perfect by purandardasa...anyways it was also there way before purandara dasa...
thapilent , I salute your humbleness in accepting that you did not know. There was no need for vsmha to get so excited , though it is a fact that Sri Purandara dasa was the founder of Carnatic music. Like Tyagaraja says in every kriti -tyagaraja vinuta rama- Purandara dasa says -Purandara vithalana - Both are great and devine vaaggeyakaras. I enjoyed reading comments by vsimha and your self - you are lucky and blessed to be able to enjoy such music. But you excelled with your humbleness.

have you heard ninnu vina na madhi. It is just awsome. If anybody has a video of that thyagaraja kirthi they should post it. i would say it is my second most favarite song since kuruvathm illia

Saint Thyagaraja is asking Sri-Ram personally to give him Moksha or liberation.
The Hindi translation would be
Ram Mujhe bacha Do !
If you want the full translation of song
You may want to ask a Telugu speaking person who is also knowledgable in Carnatic Music.
