@finylvinyl66 I was para phrasing, clever dick. "Scream of the butterfly". It's daft everybody knows butterflies don't scream. But seriously, his lyrics could be cringeworthy at times and I am a fan and been to Père Lachaise etc. etc. but never bought leather trousers though.
You can tell that he put his heart into this and "The End" at this concert but not the others he sang that day ... This was truly the beginning of "The End" ...Compared to earlier concerts when he was on his game he is just a shell of his former self at this point ... Dead man walking ... RIP Mr. Mojo Risin ...
Jim was not a God. He was a human being like most of us. However, he was a talented singer, lyricist, poet, performer. It's 2.00am in the morning, cold, and Jim's vocal delivery is neither slurred nor bereft of diction. I was fortunate to be at the event with my brother - I was 16 - and The Doors set was a highlight of the festival along with Jimi Hendrix and Taste. The full set on audio is proof Jim & band sounded great. I like the dim light, Jim's beard, his voice, the music, I love The Doors.

he is the shaman not a rock star he is a entity no one will ever come close too.. so get ur shit straight.. the media created the rock star image jim despised it which is why he left the states for paris... ignorent fucks
Jim said in an interview that he hadn't slept in 48 hours before performing at the Isle of Wight--you can't quite tell that from his appearance, but he doesn't improvise or anything too much so it's clear he wanted it over with
Snorky how can you say hes not a rock star? watch the video again and read about the Doors you uneducated asshole. Do some research before you post on videos by such great vocalists.
Morrison WAS a rock star and is NOW a legend, and always will be. That's what the fans and the media have created, and denying this doesn't change anything. And he most certainly was a rock musician. Otherwise, what was he doing on stage with those other three guys and how 'bout the 75+ million record albums they've sold to-date?
I'm sorry but it's Jim Morrison who has said he was not a rock star and not me...
I echo all of the above, but what a great shame it is that the whole song doesn't seem to exist in it's entirety. Otherwise a faultless performance from the whole band.
I was there for this Isle of wight festival....before Jim went on stage he paced backstage in his long black stage ...deep in thought and this takes me right back
I want to hear....I want to hear.....the scream....of the butterfly.....Very near yet very far...very soft and very clear...come today baby come today....
actually it's funny because Woodstock was one of the places where they weren't banned they just unexpectedly cancelled... there's this legend that he thought he was going to be shot at if he went to woodstock. i think a couple band members went to it anyway to observe
What little Doors footage Message shows is my favorite of theirs. Shedding the rock star/sex symbol baggage that detracts from some earlier performances, Morrison is earthier & bluesier. Post-Majesties Stones & post-Pepper's Beatles & many other bands were like-minded. Worth noting: this was the wee hours of the morning, hundreds of thousands of people were on the lawn, & most of 'em were trippin'. If Morrison seems subdued, it's cuz he knew he had them in the palm of his hands.
Why DMC didn`t release the whole live film or cd of Isle of Wight ? I`m Waiting for so long.

Jim said in an interview that he hadn't slept in 48 hours before performing at the Isle of Wight--you can't quite tell that from his appearance, but he doesn't improvise or anything too much so it's clear he wanted it over with

Morrison is a writer and a poet and not a rock star...
snorky56 3 years ago
Snorky how can you say hes not a rock star? watch the video again and read about the Doors you uneducated asshole. Do some research before you post on videos by such great vocalists.

Morrison WAS a rock star and is NOW a legend, and always will be. That's what the fans and the media have created, and denying this doesn't change anything. And he most certainly was a rock musician. Otherwise, what was he doing on stage with those other three guys and how 'bout the 75+ million record albums they've sold to-date?

He is a poet and a writer, and he's not A rock star. He is THE rockstar.

I'm sorry but it's Jim Morrison who has said he was not a rock star and not me...
snorky56 3 years ago

Jim Morrison had no singing background and could not read music, but he became one of the biggest rock singers of the 1960's!

I echo all of the above, but what a great shame it is that the whole song doesn't seem to exist in it's entirety. Otherwise a faultless performance from the whole band.

f***in' A that's cool... one of my favorite bands.. love his intensity on this clip.. gives a glimpse of the more thoughtful side of the artist...
I loved the mix of elements they had - really unique in rock n' roll to see these elements...
Also big a krieger fan...

maddoorsfan 4 years ago
actually it's funny because Woodstock was one of the places where they weren't banned they just unexpectedly cancelled... there's this legend that he thought he was going to be shot at if he went to woodstock. i think a couple band members went to it anyway to observe

YOU ARE RIGHT: Isle of Wight is a great, sublime performance. Very dramatic.
But the surviving Doors prate that it's "too dark" and refuse to release it.
