  • Marvelous ! Thank you!!!!

  • I've loved this stuff for years.. would love to meet the master someday.

  • Amazing sound. Love this.

  • DIOS!

  • I can't wait to see this. Why does it say author does not allow viewing on mobile devices? It's the only device I have.

  • @macguyincali I didn't kow that setting was there. I corrected it. Hope it works for you. I see now that also the song gets autopromoted to be sold via iTunes so I if I have time I will post another one.

  • i wish i was one of his 43 children...... :)

  • I cherished this record when it came out but somehow got lost in my collection. Khine Sine was a highlight for me, amazing vocal melody, timeless. Anybody have any footage of it?

  • @geoffmallan there's actually an entire dvd of the whole recording, of the same name I believe, DJABOTE is the name of said album. not every single minute of it is on there (the end of the first track is cut off)

but its still pretty totally awesome. jes seach DJABOTE

  • I'm Tomas from Argentina. My father gave me this album 7 years ago, and since then i've heard it almost every day..but I had no idea about this video till today!!!

    Thank you!!!

  • @aerosfobia It is actually a TV documentary that was released on VHS. I mail ordered it from France from a very small publisher. Indeed the CD is Djabote. I do not know of any DVD. I just did some juggling with Adobe Premiere and captured the whole VHS before it aged and the signal would get lost.

  • WoW, thank God you shot this video. I wrote this out for percussion ensemble and never saw how they played this, one stick , one hand. This is the bomb, thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @jonthedrummer Wow. you wrote this out? That will be a gas to play. I tried counting it but it was too complex for me.

  • men and women equally at one with the drum... drum culture in America (esp. the media is way behind) this is / always has been fascinating! thank you~~~ so so beautiful and powerful... xx

  • Africa, thats yur spirit, wake up and be yourself. shake of the history, let go and be

  • so very awesome. Love african music

  • this sounds identical to the actual recording off the Djabote album. I would love to find this if it is available on dvd. I bought this album when I was 15 years old, back in 1997 or so. I'd blast my parents stereo when they left for an evening, and lay on the hardwood floor. The deep bass tones would literally take my breath away. Thank you so much for posting this. I searched his name expecting to find nothing, but there seems to be a lot. Can't wait to watch all this stuff.

  • @buffyrich I believe it "is" the actual recording of the Djabote album. yah.

  • @Stimulator7 You must be right, each hit lands exactly where i remember.

  • I've been trying to learn how to play it. This one is even more awesome with the people dancing/swaying to the rhythm and just enjoying it so much. So authentic!

    Thanks for posting it!

  • Amazing!

    :-)

  • Wow! I've been listening to 'Rose Rhythm' for years -- ever since 'Plus From Us' came out -- and have always wondered what a performance of it looked like. I had no idea there was a video of it! From the sound of it, this was recorded at the same time as the track that appears on 'Plus From Us'.

This is great! Thank you for posting this!

  • Esbjorn, thank you for this great video, very powerful! You don't expect much the first 52 seconds, and then it hits you! I like the way you describe it- routing the earth's energy, very true. It is good seeing women drummers, not too common in african drumming. I think the piece performed might actually be "Rose Rhythm", on 1994 Real World Records CD Djabote. The documentary video by the same title must be great too. Good job! Any others like that you can upload for us?

  • @laurajimbe Hello Laura. Thank you for your kind words. You are quite right. I have corrected the 'problem'. It was late when I did this.

Posting more is a bit of an ethical matter. I'd like to advertise this music but it is also an infringement on the rights of the Rose family and the French producer. I'm willing to trade the captured VHS which I bought back then (on DVD) for something you might have. Just drop a line at my hotmail account which is a concatenation of my username and hotmail.
