funimation how hard is it for u guys to put the mexican dub for the boxsets and when are uguys releasing the blu ray boxsets i mean u had the spanish tracks in the ultimate uncut boxsets why not continue it
I think it really depends on your taste. I personally dislike it because it just seems like they stretched it out to get as much money as they could have from the DBZ series. I would suggest to at least watch a clip online or read more on it before you go out and buy the box set.
yes it is worth getting dragonball z isnt much diffrent than gt in fact i think its just as good as z there is more of a story to it in gt definetly worth getting!
why don't people like gt that much? i mean yea dbz was better but thats a given. gt was pretty cool. ss4 was awesome and they had gogeta in it...maybe because it was to short? I dont know but i didnt think it was that bad
GT was good as a SEPARATE ANIME. Compared to Dragonball, and Dragonball Z it fails. It fails epically. Its not good enough to hold the "Dragonball" name in it. It wasn't the story that was bad, it was the fact it was all centered on Goku, and no other character did anything. Which is NOT what Dragonball/DBZ was. Sure Goku killed the villains, but least everyone else did SOMETHING. Only thing that was awesome in GT, was SSJ4
It does come out on Dec 9th. Season Two is the one that comes out Feb 11th... no, wait. Actually, that's wrong, too. Season Two actually comes out on Feb 10th.
You do realize that the "widescreen" in the Z sets crops off the top and bottom of the picture, right? Widescreen is good for movies, because those were made for it (and full screen would crop off the sides), but since this is a TV show that was filmed in full screen, then you're actually cropping off the picture by getting it in widescreen. So with the GT boxsets, you're actually getting more of the picture than with the Z boxsets. Dragon Ball was never meant to be widescreen.
funimation plans to make dragonball boxsets and movies until the Lionsgate liscence expires in 2010. because they can only release it if they have all the episodes, not if there is 13 less(Wikipedia).Trust me.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GT on DVd I can't wait. i was worried that they wouldn't do dragonball or dragonballz seasons after dbz was finished but I was wrong. Still if they havt ssj4 joku on the cover then there must only be 2-3 episodes.
Wtf, according to Axelmusic, Dragonball GT Season 1 Remastered will only have 3 discs.. That would be like 10 episodes per disc, which sucks. I hope Axelmusic is wrong.
Hey Funimation, are the insert song's intact, and episode previews available? What about Dragon Box footage? Because I know you can't remaster Digi-beta tapes, unlike DBZ witch was on film reels!
Widescreen is good you guys. That means it fits perfectly on a widescreen tv or monitor. Which widescreen should be the future of tv's and computer monitors.
Listen to yourself. There aren't any specific directions to how you view DBZ. The widescreen may crop off some unnoticeable footage from the top and bottom, but it also adds some unnoticable footage to the sides that you didn't see when you watched DBZ on your fullscreen tv. They are taking footage away, but also adding to it. The remastered widescreen version is more beautiful than the fullscreen dbz. If you want to buy fullscreen dbz, that is available too, but widescreen is the smarter buy.
Actually, widescreen means more footage. In most cases, when they do widescreen, they don't take anything from the top or bottom, they just add to the sides. Movies are shot in widescreen and that is how they are shown in theatres, but they cut footage off the sides to make it fit fullscreen tvs. Widescreen tvs show you the same footage you saw in theatres.
However, this dbz set is different than usual widescreen dvds. Here they add to the sides, but they also take from the top and bottom.
Fullscreen DBZ is only available via Japanese Dragon Box singles. $30+ a DVD isn't worth it unless you have the cash.
The amount added to the sides is MINIMAL compared to what's actually cut off. Some folks have even noted they don't even gain any footage with their widescreen TVs.
Also, all of these DBZ remastered sets are notorious for film damage. Especially when certain scenes become extremely shakey and you can white lines spread over to where black outlines should be.
Ahh yes, the very sexy missing line effect. I don't see how Funimation could give their stamp of approval on such a product. Viz,ADV, and Bandai would never do such a thing.
Sad part is that it's done by an outside job. The one remastering it isn't even with FUNimation. Embarrassingly, the guy's done editing with porn movies before.
Not only that but it turns out they're doing this to their masters, rather than copies. So once the remastering is done, it's permanent. Can't be undone.
If Toei thought the extra space on the side of the episodes was relevant, they would have included it in the original presentation. Funimation's job is to bring anime in a language I can understand at a price I can afford...also their version should do the orignal version justice. Funimation shouldn't be "widescreening" tv shows that should be in 4:3.
Uhm no, it wasn't shown on the original presentation simply because it wouldn't fit on a squarish full-screen. That is why Toei and anyone who has ever made a tv show or film cropped the sides. Also, DBZ shouldn't be in 4:3. It was only in 4:3 to fit the screen. What it was meant was to fit the screen and now that screens are changing in dimension, it is perfectly fine to make a show fit the new screen. Fitting the screen is what it was meant to do, not be forced into a dimension of 4:3.
Are you joking? Dragonball was made IN FULLSCREEN. 4:3 ratio is what it was made in, and for. Anything on the sides was made intentionally unimportant, and was predicted to be lost in overscan anyways... Which it still is on most TV's anyways.
In the description it says it will be avaliable on September 16th (The same day as the Dragon Ball Z Season 6 DVD set and the Movie 3 & 4 DVD & Blu-ray sets) when on many retail websites it says it will be avaliable on November 11th.
Dear god no. Thankfully it isn't. None of the Dragon Ball series' were meant to be seen in widescreen as they were all made in fullscreen. Making them widescreen results in cropping footage.
Well, I liked it in Dragonball Z. I don't care if we dont see the tip of Goku's hair. I didn't even noticed. But if it's full screen on this set I don't mind. I wonder what Funimation did with the opening. Let's hope it's not the crap-rap with the japanese opening scenes xD
Actually, while you are right that they were not meant to be seen in widescreen, it was created in widescreen and the only cropping (which FUNimation did) took a small amout off of the top and bottom.
Uh, no. DB/Z/GT were all made in fullscreen. NEVER widescreen. The only exception are the movies, which were intended to be seen in either view (Japan animated them in fullscreen but cropped them in widescreen).
And you're actually missing far more footage from the top and bottom than you are from the sides.
Also, there's also the fact that the footage is zoomed in on (especially noticable with Season 1).
I was thinking they said otherwise on the featurette included with season one. And I thought they only released the movies to widescreen in theaters and only released the fullscreen to VHS/DVD.
On the contrary, a lot of what's said in the booklet and featurette is mostly fabricated. In fact, the "comparisons" that they've shown in early commercials were actually faked. Several people have called them on it, hence why the quality has *slightly* improved since Season 1 and why FUNi no longer shows any further comparisons.
Also, only Japan got the movies in widescreen on all formats (theaters, Laserdisc, VHS and DVD). The US has only seen them widescreen in new DVDs.
GT was good but not as good as DBZ I am still going to buy this DVD because I have all the DBZ DVD

Is the side footage worth anything in 4:3 DBZ? Toei didn't seem to think so, so why should Funimation.
