Alcoholics Anonymous is the ONLY proven method of recovery from alcoholism. IF you dont choose to give yourself to the program and take its suggestions YOU will go out. AA doesn't tie anyone down and make them not drink. It works if YOU WORK IT. @prschuster actually if you study carl jung, which I doubt you have, alcoholics and really any form of addiction is a seeking of a spiritual experience through artificial means. what aa does is teach a way of gaining a spiritual experience through natural means, by helping others, sharing experiences, etc. you don't need AA to beat alcohol but you do need to find some way to gain a spiritual experience, "spiritus contra spiritum"
