  • I have concentration problems and an addictive personality , Its like I dont have control over myself? can anyone here help me with that ?where can I learn how to meditate?

  • @MrNomad62 this is the big question right, I wish I had some new advice. we all know exercise, socialising and eating right is important but that don't help much when you're getting crushed by some addiction. all I can really say is wait for the neuroscience to get better so we can tackle these problems properly. in the meantime... analytic psychotherapy is underrated.

  • adhd is dbullshit you have fungus robbing your dopamine....google it.and than use your front lobes and cross reference.than observe .

  • water gives me dopamine.....weird

  • if only there was a different way.... *gunshot*

  • The difference between happiness and pleasure is happiness is forever. We are eternal beings, so the way to eternal happiness is being satisfied, deciding to be satisfied. The Lord only recommends a way for us to live, but we are free to choose. Through charity we can find true happiness and not be bound to an addiction. Every choice we make has a consequence, we are free to lust after our addictions or try a different way :)

  • So interesting. Do things that make you feel good for an extended period of time.

  • Dopamine regulates pleasure :D

  • So we are all just junkies looking our next fix.

  • @SCAREDBANANA no... junkies (drug addicts) are locked into a highly stereotypical pattern of seeking out a few chemical substances in the environment despite destructive consequences. the dopamine system of a healthy person can motivate all sorts of complex, creative and worthwhile pursuits. the point I guess is to figure out how to promote the latter and avoid the former, and to navigate the vast gradient in-between the two, which is where most people operate.

  • @calonator75 C8H11NO2. it's on wikipedia...

  • Thank you! Simple and to the point, this gave me the link i needed!

  • This was very interesting and well explained!

  • How can you tell if you have ADD? I am certainly not hyperactive, but have difficulty concentrating and staying motivated. Its been like this my whole life. I also get anxiety attacks. :)

  • ADD? placebo effect -learn how to make your brain think the way you want it to.

Anything boring is likely to lose your attention. You have to push yourself like everoyne else, it gets easier.

Btw, it's ADHD now, they removed the term ADD- adderall, ritalin, vyvance etc. are now prescribed for "ADHD" not ADD.

And ADD was never heard of a century ago and we were just fine before some idiot gave everyone an excuse to be lazy.

If you have anxiety, then exercise (it is the best way to beat it).

  • @MagePeaceman I regret ever writing that lol. Yeah makes sense.

  • @MagePeaceman DUDE i am Adhd, yet ive learned to conrtole it with alot of thinking, yet i kinda got side effects from doing so. . . and i do smoke marijuanna, ( if you know anything bout htis and adhd send ti to me ) But what im really interested in now, is that fact you said i can make my brain think the way i want. . ive been thinking about that my whole life. . im 18 now, and Thats weird that you say that . . but i did know about losing focus easily PLEASE REPLY TO ME ASAP ~

  • @MagePeaceman

Ignore this moron promoting his anti-science BS. ADHD, as far as we know, is real. Just because it wasn't diagnosed 100 years ago doesn't mean anything, AT ALL. That is seriously one of the dumbest arguments to make and I hope I don't have to explain why. ADHD is not people being lazy. The merits of exercise are great and receiving lots and lots of support from the scientific community, but it's not a god damn panacea.

I know his post was a bit old but I just couldn't help it

  • @pappuali ADHD is real, no doubt. But the idea of ADHD has developed into something of a disease, which has no physical symptoms, only behavioral ones. People with ADHD usually have disheveled lives. However, surprisingly if you give an ADHD person structure, the symptoms for ADHD disappear (no symptoms, no disease). Basically, training yourself to overcome common obstacles of ADHD.

    1. physical & mental exercise

    2. healthy social & spiritual life

    3. healthy diet & pattern of thinking

  • this clip is dope

  • damn dopamine makes me stutter and it's pissing me off. how do i lower my levels of dopamine without perscription medication?

  • @FordCopChrist1995 I doubt it's the dopamine. drink less coffee and don't do drugs. then there's talk therapy and exercise..

  • @FordCopChrist1995 If your dopamine levels drop too low you lose motivation to eat, feel fatigue, depression, anxiety, and you'll probably have more stuttering.

People with low dopamine usually have social anxiety also. It's also a symptom of Parkinson's disease.

    Schizophrenics have too much dopamine.

Practice speaking, don't take drugs. (most drugs increase your dopamine)

  • @MagePeaceman dude i smoke weed everyday, and ive just come across this dopamine stuff, and it seems interesting. do you think that thats the reason why im feeling Like life is pointless and everything sucks. Yet i eat alot, but everything else i am experiencing im at the point where when i talk to new people it feels akward for some weird reason, and i try to concentrate on whta im gonna say next, So i dont sound like a spacedout retard. . I think it is because of weed, but is that reversable?

  • @austinocabelro689 One of the biggest side effects of weed is that everything in your life becomes boring. That's why people convince themselves that weed makes life less boring, but actually it only makes it worse. I know exactly how you feel, I used to smoke a lot of weed, a friend of mine still smokes everyday and I have to be honest: it makes her less fun to hang around with. It's not necessary to stop smoking weed completely, just cut it down to once a week. It'll help for sure.

  • Mostly because the cannabinoids in weed enhance sensory perception. Pretty much -everything- seems better, and life without it seems dull by comparison. It doesn't have much to do with neurochemical side-effects. In fact, recent studies show that the cannabinoids don't even stimulate or interact with the dopamine pathways directly, the way alcohol or stimulants might. In fact, the more likely culprits for reward-system imbalance are

  • eating too much sugary/fatty foods and/or jacking off too much. Literally, some of the only proven non-drug-assisted methods of upregulating dopamine receptors (which re-sensitizes your brain to normal pleasurable stimulus) are caloric restriction and getting rid of porn/masturbation binges (though total sexual abstinence isn't necessary).

  • PLEASE HELP ME..Is dopamine reproductive?

  • @mississippirebel1 reproductive? it's certainly involved in sexual selection and mating... is that what you mean?

  • seriously ..the narrator needs more dopamine......he makes it sound boring...

  • @yodudewassp true, unfortunately it also causes massive damage to dopaminergic nerve fibers

  • mine used to reward me for death things of the group; now i'm unus singulus. now they are burnt out. it's not possible for me to be depressed, but i would be if i could. i need fake dopamine for a treat in the evening or something once a week; everything the same is okay, not drugs but something for alzheimers, I need. anyone know?

  • smoking weed must release dopamine

  • @iPlantChannel i guess people with adhd just need to smoke weed all the time, or eat all the time, which one seems heathier to you, eating burgers 247, or smoking weed 247?

  • @ihateslideshows no doing just one thing inhibits the dopamine system, that's why people with adhd have problems focusing on one thing for long. gotta find that good variety.

  • @iPlantChannel marijuana increases attention span

  • @ihateslideshows no it decreases attention span for most things, particularly for tasks with significant cognitive load

  • @iPlantChannel do you smoke weed?

  • @iPlantChannel it gives you motivation, gives me motivation, makes me learn better, before i smoked weed i had no motivation to learn as much as when im high.

  • easier way? think of the REWARDS! DUH! rewards = direct increase in more dopamine

  • @azura13liss yea but strong natural rewards often get you into trouble in the long run. I was thinking of iPlants. (sorry about the late reply, must have missed your comment)

  • the "Cheeseburger, UFO, Twitter thought" was hilarious, a noticeable amount of dopamine indeed!

  • yes, hate. It'll make you come back over and over to something you don't like until you like what you hate. Love is death. Learn to be bored of love, rank it lower.

  • Thanks this helped me a lot! :) Hope u have a wonderful day or night haha

  • u will get dopamine if u r playing a cool game?

  • @steyr177 definitely, it's the dopamine that makes it seem cool in the first place :)

  • i like dopamine

  • I found this really interesting.

I think that an education of brain architecture will become an intrinsic part of education as the world develops. As the 'individual' becomes more relevant, powerful and important. Deep sysnthesised self knowledge and understanding (in terms of brain archtecture) will become an imperative nessacity for progress.

  • hahha dopamang

  • My dopamine pathways are fried.... I've never had motivation.

  • I feel you dude...

  • Interesting stuff, I think if you could reward yourself with the press of a button you would be totally hooked to pressing that button, not the action that you ought to be rewarding yourself for. Sounds like you're just about to take a hit from your iplant at the end of the video after you say 'if only there was a different way' haha

  • preventing abuse is key. we've used the term 'defence mechanisms' to describe the access controls that would have to be put in place to keep conditional rewarding brain stimulation conditional. see the site for details.

  • You want dopamine try Jesus and thats the best trip

  • @JIC54 suck his dick, that's what he likes best. just suck his dick ==D D:

  • Try it you need it really bad

  • If you have tourette syndroom FUCK YOUR DOCTOR listen to me .. Smoke a joint its the best i swear it . and im not a junkie i hate the side effects of weed but if your anything like me begging your head to stop thinking . smoke a joint

  • weed would make that worst buddy.

  • If you have tourette syndroom FUCK YOUR DOCTOR listen to me ..

  • in 1994 i was diagnosed with the heavyiest case of gille da la tourette syndroom . in europe i was medically treated like a gyniepig my body is now grossly misformed due to medical malpractice i would like to tell everybody . that if you have my illness the best way t o treat it is to find a dopamine surpressest I find the workings of thc ( Tetrahydrocannabinol ) to be the best thing for me . it allows me to focus on a task instead of 100 tasks all at once .

  • whats sad is that too many anti-depressants concentrate all on seratonin and not enough on dopamine. In fact wellbutrin is the only one antidepressant that addresses the dopamine issue.

L-tyrosine is a precursor to dopamine that some people supplement with to get a boost in energy, you can get it at GNC or other health stores. L-dopa also.

  • how long of meditation is required to fully activate this?

  • the more you meditate the better you get at it

  • hey iplantchannel what about having and excess amount of dopamine i have heard this causes psychosis and schizophrenia if so how do you reduce dopamine levels?

  • yea antipsychotic medicine often block a subclass of dopamine receptors. there's more to schizophrenia than just 'too much' dopamine though.

  • like??

  • atypical cortical wiring, reduced prefrontal activity... it's an extremely complex disorder

  • thankyou 4 this =)

  • or just take dopamine itself it is able to cross the blood brain barrier (unlike serotonin) so you can just take an oral dose!!

  • dopamine does not cross the blood brain barrier

  • aww man! that sucks well at least we still have 5htp on our side

  • Amazing thoughts :)

I've been thinking about this today and I am wondering if electric stimulation of the brain's reward system would have pretty much exactly the same effect as injecting epinephrine.

Do the trials in animals show the same side effects as drug addiction when the stimulus is removed?

  • no injecting epinephrine is very different, it has to do with fight/flight, not reward

    yes
