  • i got my corn on just a mat, she seems fine

  • Does it matter how big the light? I had one for my hermit crab a bit bigger than that one, could I use it?

    PLZ RESPOND

  • WHAT TIPE HEAT BULD IS IT LOOK LIKE

  • do they need uvb anytime

  • today i got my corn. its a few months old, buti have a heating lamp and a tiny heat mat. i put the heating mat under its hide, but the guy said to put theheating lamp (it doesnt have a light its only heat) over the water. something about humitiy. is that ok because ususally they dont say that. and wen i go to sleep tonight should i leave it on or off (the mat is tiny) please answer.

  • @lulugal31 i'm not real experienced with snakes but a store associate at petsmart said you don't want to put the water near any heat source. not sure if that's true or not. just what i was told.

  • heat mats are fine as the only heat source unless you have a cold house also never use any heating equipment without a thermostat for your safety as much as the snakes

  • @YamoondoTheGamer I find a red heat bulb (make sure snake can't reach it) and put it on a 10/12 hour timer.

  • @techgeek135

No, do not leave the lights on all night. It could cause over heating, and snakes do sleep believe it or not and they do not need light. That's why you should have a heat mat at the bottom of the cage to regulate the temp. :)

  • hey any one i have a 3 and a half foot corn snake in a 4ft by 2ft by 2ft vivarium ...at the moment im usein a 60w head bulb n in the warm end it reaches 85f.. n in the cold end in the cave it's 77f in the day time but it dosent seem that warn in the vivarium what heat bulb wattage would be best would i be better of with a 100w heat bulb its a wood viv pm me thanks

  • Do you leave the light on at night?

  • is a 65walt bulb ok

  • can a corn snake and a b python live together

  • @dondray30 no

  • I"ve been keeping a ball python for years now, and i only use a bin and a heat pad.. It works great. NO need to have a heat pad and a heat lamp, it will dry out the snakes skin, and give them incomplete sheds. Just cause this dude is young and has long hair, doesn't make him cool.

  • @MmaNcovers I have a heat pad and it only has High, Low and, medium. What do you think would be best for a corn snake?

  • All i have is a heat pad too, but i have it hooked up to a herpestat. Do you have a probe thermometer to tell you the temperature? I have the pad set up so that it is about 99 degrees right above the heat pad. Since its winter, my house is cold, and that's why i have the temperature that high. If you're house is fairly warm or room temperature, you should have the temperature at 85-90 degrees right above the heat pad. In the summer time i leave the heat pad off.

  • I don't really like expert village, but I like this guy. He sounds like he knows what he's talking about, while the others sound like they are reading stuff off a paper as the do the video....

  • 150 - 250 watt loool thats too hot the reptile shop i brought my corn snake said a 60 watt light bulb would just burn the snake imagine what a 150 or 250 watt would do!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • how do they breathe if the covers on. i dont see any holes

  • corn snakes are nocturnal they only need a heat pad idoit

  • @fleebinflarbin They are not nocturnal do your research most snakes are active during the day, so you need both a heat pad and a lamp

  • Comment removed

  • @MichiganHerpss Actually corn snakes ARE nocturnal because i own them myself... i have books on the care of them that clearly state they're nocturnal. The fact that they sleep/hide during the day and come out at night says it all! It's not true that 'most' snakes are active during the day - 'some' yes, but not most.

So perhaps YOUR research is a little lacking or confused. Garter snakes are usually quite active snakes so are often exploring during the day. But not corns, and not a lot of others.

  • @fleebinflarbin i know the shop were i brought my snake said a 60watt bulb would burn the snake he wants to use a 75 or 100 watt thay would fry the snake i only use a 14.5watt heat matt that the reptile shop recommended

  • i like this gy

  • u can only have a mat

  • i just got my corn snake yesterday. he seems well but the room temp is in the mid 80's as it is very hot lately. all i have is a basking lamp with a 50 watt bulb because the lady at the pet store said i dont need a heat mat since it is hot out. with my lamp on it is almost 90 degrees! should i leave my heat lamp on? is my corn okay with just the 80-85 degree room temp?

  • @musicalgenius96 for corn snakes it should be around 80-90 degree

  • i just got a corn snake and a starter kit it has light bulbs but no heat pad is this concern the tempature in there right now is 80 degrees ferinheight(cant spell in a rush)

  • @psychocrusha618 it's good

  • I am a first time corn snake keeper. I have two corn snakes sharing the same enclousure. I have been told that t'is more preferable to keep them in seperate enclousers, but we got a large enough viv to keep them together. I use a heat mat & bulb, the mat only goes three quarters of the viv. I have placed the hut on the mat area, and the water bowl on the cool side, as when i had it on the mat, the humidity was too high. I have been told max temp. is between 85-90 degrees F. Is this right?

  • what do i need to set up a baby corn snake setup.... im gonna start with a 10 gallon tank... anyone have any ideas? ty and leave a list of what i need

  • 2 hide boxes, water bowl, maybe a branch, substrate, for corns...aspen or centerfresh work the best. i like heat emitters better, but bulbs work fine. And a under the tank heater. All that and of course the snake, lolz

  • @WheresWaldoTV also dont forget to get a lamp dimmer, rehostat, or thermostat, that way your snake wont get burnt, and the temps will stay perfect.

  • Why the hell do shops sell heat rocks if everyone I know says that they are dangerous to reptiles????

  • @sampson95 money

  • @sampson95 because it is an easy cheaper stupid ''solution''...and stores know that easy and cheap sales a lot.

  • @slashngibson Thats just wrong then!

  • @sampson95 not all are dangerous, my friend has one that doesnt get very hot, and it has no hot spots, i know, because i thought it would hurn his snake so i checked and there were no hot spots at al

  • this guys hair is SERIOUSLY starting to bug me!!! he'd look better with ANYTHING but that!

  • lol

  • can i use a heat rock

  • @paddygraffiti well actually newer heat rocks are pretty safe so you can if you want but buy a new one not a used one

  • u can but theres a risk it can burn ur snake

  • if got 2 250 watt heat pads is that enuf ?

  • would a 7 watt heat pad let off enough heat for a corn snake

  • yes but if you put the heat had inside the cage say for if you had a wood vivarium it would supply eniugh heat

  • jeff thats gonna be a total of 160 maybe 170

  • ok i really want a snake this is new to me how much would it cost if i got a corn snake and a habitat food bulb all of it together how much would it cost

  • look he nknows the most out of all the exprt village people but u only need a heat mat

  • What if you buy the snake bedding that doesn't work with a heating mat(like the hampa snake bedding)? Only need a heating lamp + a "light" UVB lamp? so 2 lamps will work without a mat? and what is the difference between the infra red heating lamp and the ones that doesn't give out any light?

  • can you just use a heat mat because i dont trust expert village

  • this guy knows what he talks about ok not that lady that said to use a heat rock

  • Ditto, this guy seems pretty genuine to me. He pretty much refelcts how ive kept my snake for 4yrs.

Snakes are fine with heatmatts so long as its on a stat and putts out enough heat for the size of enclosure. I also use a Infra Red lamp with some of mine.

  • this guy is a whing-ding. (Y)

  • this is the only guy on expert village who knows two shits about what hes discussing

  • @pbdude725 yeah but only 2 :-/

  • @pbdude725 true dat

  • wat if its in the summer and really hot do we still need the heat pad and stuff probably not but just to make sure

  • So do you leave the pad on all day then when you go to bed just turn it off then switch it back on in the morning?

Oh and whats a good temp on both sides for a corn snake?

  • leave pad on all day dont turn off

    should be 70f or 80f (20c or 30c)

  • i have a heat pad and the light and its normally about 28 but sometimes it can go right up to 32 is this okay?

  • do you turn the heat lamp off at nights?????

  • yes you do!

  • dude you dont need a light to heat a snake unless your in alaska the heat mat is fine on its own with the uvb and room temp

  • so is my snake okay with just a heat mat..?

and is it okay in dark then yes..?

  • If you get the temps right a heat mat is all you need. Make sure it's not gonna harm whatever you put it on. Like a table. A thermostat is a good investment but not necessary if you know what your doing.

Corns are mostly nocturnal they are most active at dusk and dawn. So the light coming in your window should be enough. UVB is good for most reptiles but not necessary for corns.

  • its better to have a thermo in case of overheating.i lost a snake due to overheating unfortunately, a beautiful candy cane corn

  • This guy must be in the heat lamp industry. There's no need for a lamp with corns. Flex watt, heat rope, or UTH.

Show me any of the big breeders who use heat lamps on their corns racks and I'll give you a dollar for each.

  • do you need UVB?

  • do corn snakes hibernat

  • They should,

But you dont have to, if you dont want to breed.

  • no or at least mine hasnt and i've had him for about two years

  • what would you do if the power went out? would it die

  • a fuse blew on my corn snakes heat for some reason.. i didnt notice for a week or two and it just went into hibernation :)

  • it could if you leave the power out for a long time. it will take a while for the tank to cool down but by then you should get power back.

  • no the snake wouldnt die unless its like 20 degress or some crazy temp. in your house. my corn snake is doin fine and all i have is a heating pad and a floresent(however you spell it) light.

  • yes they are I have talked with many reputable breeders and they agree that a heat mat is enough now if you keep you house like 60 degrees then you may need another heat source

  • i have the same lamp.....

  • People... Come on now be smart about this. It all depends on what the temp is in the room you keep your tank. if its 60 degrees in the room then a tank mat alone may not be enough, if you keep the room around 75 or 80 degrees then it may be enough. use temp gauges to make sure the temp is where you need it.

  • i have a Habistat 300w temperature thermostat, and a reptile digital thermometer . you do not need a heat lamp with a heat mat, for lighting decoration i have led's in my vivs

  • you don't need a lamp for corns only a heat mat

  • i have a question for anyone willing to answer::

im getting a baby corn snake in a 10 gallon glass aquarium and a zoomed under tank heater, i was wondering how i keep the temp at 85-90 on the hot side and 70-75 on the cool side without it getting to hot or to cold??? someone please help!

  • your corn will be fine here is a sugestion place the water dish in between the hot and cold side and if your mat has a guage on it put it at med or low and it should sustian a nice 80* temp for your little buddy plus he burrows so he will definetley be close to the pad

  • What would you guys recommend I use to heat my Corn? I'm getting him a glass tank soon and need to decide what bulbs/heat mats to buy.

  • omg

  • this blokes a joke hes trying to fukin set the snake alight 150 to 250 watts wtf !!!

  • he said you should get one thats RATED for 150w - 250w so if you have a large tank you can get a more powerfull bulb. listen nextime shit head

  • actually u got 3 ways of heating. 1 is heat rock and this is a no no so don't go neer it. 2 u can use a heat mat. A heat mat is fine to use and helps in digestion but ur snake will burrow since corn snakes are borrowers and it might get to the under tank eater and get hurt so keep that in mind. 3 u have the basking side. The basking side will have to be at 85 to 95 degrees and the rest of the tank a nice 75 degrees and at night just 70 degrees or to even 60. This guy id smart but 150 to much lol

  • a bloody 125 watt were trying to keep them as pets not bloody roast it flaming hell

  • why the hell is this guy on expert village 125 watt bulb!!!

  • Would a Ceramic heat emitter work good too?

  • dont need bulb just heat pad but still great help

  • do you have to have a bulb i dont use one

  • no corn snakes dont need heat bulbs they would acctually burn your snake

use a heat mat th love that

  • dude we want the snakes for us to keep not eat

  • Thats exactly what i thought when he said that bs... I use a red nocturne bulb and a old pillow heat pad. A 60 watt regular lightbulb can hold 73 degrees in a 10 gal, which i use till they grow around 2 to 3 feet. I usually only run tha red bulb and 60 watt, and if it gets below a certain degree my heat pad will turn on.
