Well that's because you're not living with the cultural conditions of the '60s. If you were, you'd find them really attractive. Times change, so do views on beauty. Your last statement proves that.
Are you kidding me? Our views on beauty have changed so drastically, as they always do over periods of time. Of course opinions matter but in reality women are seen in a very different light than they were forty years ago. Opinions are all formed around the cultural norm, therefore no one has a different opinion. We are all influenced by what the idea of beauty is in modern day society.
I misinterpreted you. You previously stated that I wasn't living in the cultural conditions of the 60s, and I at first believed you were implying that my opinion wasn't fair as I wasn't alive at the time this woman was considered beautiful.
@WaxedLegs It's okay if you don't find her attractive. I say a girl looks good or doesn't but not in that girl's presence of course. I wouldn't hurt anyone's feelings and of course this actress can't hear or see your statement. When we say someone looks good or not so attractive - we don't mean we think less of them.
Is it just me or does anyone else notice that he doesn't go back to where the door was?
When he comes in at 1:43 it takes him 5 paces to reach the torch on the wall, but when he turns around after the music stops, the door is suddenly right next to the torch. I think the "new" rock wall was hidden by a drape you can see on his way in.
(You know, foregoing magic or something that would make the room shrink by 10 feet *shrug*)
You know it's true. The crazy Jesus freaks got their way with their protests. Just look at even the movies coming out today. All Disney animated oh-God-I-want-to-drown-a-baby garbage for kids. I get Hillary Duff and Miley Cyrus shoved down my throat. If thery are not doing porn, I don't want to see them. And I want to beat the shit out of the Jonas brothers! Thank you Jesus freaks.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This scene is more than 40 years old, but they couldn't show this on TV now. The right-wing Christian groups got their way, so unless a woman in a business suit is bending you over and fucking you in a divorce trial on a TV show, they aren't going back to these days when women were women.
Have you watched television lately? All I see are tits and hot girls dancing around. I don't think the Christian right made all women wear suits by a long shot. This sure is a cool scene though. I like that it's still super hot even though its 40 years old.
That line, of course, refers to an earlier conversation between Capt. Pike and the ship's doctor, in which Pike mentions the possibility of quitting the service: "I might go into business on Regulus or in the Orion colonies." To which the doctor replies, "You? An Orion trader, dealing in green animal-women, slaves . . .?" It's what's known as a "set-up."
Jefffey Hunter was already into movies. If you look him up he did a lot of Western movies including the "Searchers" which was a huge success in it's time
Also one of his most famous roles was as Jesus Christ in "King of Kings" (1961). Because of Hunter's good looks and youthful appearance (though he was actually 34 at the time), the picture was jokingly called "I was a Teenage Jesus."
That line was cut when the pilot film was used in the 2-part episode "The Menagerie." Other bits of missing dialogue: When Pike comments on Vina's dress material being the same worn by the Talosians, she coyly replies, "I have to wear something -- don't I?" Also when the two women beam down into Pike's cage, the Keeper, speaking about the First Officer, says, "Although she appears to lack emotion, this is largely a pretense. She frequently has fantasies involving you." A bit risqué for '60s TV.
@scotpens I must see the pilot!! I have to. There is a line in the movie "JAWS" that has been cut on DVD ("This is what happens when a girl goes swimming alone in the ocean" or something like that). Only part of the sentence is left on the DVD version.
Jeffrey Hunter wanted to get into motion pictures, otherwise he might've stayed on Star Trek. While filming this, I heard his wive was on the set every day and got to be a big pain in the butt, making unreasonable demands. So maybe it wouldn't have worked in the long run.
I always thought Kerwin Mathews also would've made a really cool Star Fleet captain.
@ReverendSyn Works on me unless I talk myself out of the spell with logic. I do believe it is a natural pull that females have on guys!! So says The Learning Channel!
I will never get tired of watching classing Star Trek, from the Original Series, or in this case, The Cage, which was pre Capt. Kirk. Wasn't this Captain Christopher Pike on a planet of Aliens that had tremendous mental energy, and made everything he saw an illusion? And the woman dancing as an Orion was really an Earth astronaut severly injured years before the Enterprise arrived, but Pike was seeing her as an illusion? Sorry, I got carried away...;)
You're right Ricoblubro. Her beauty was an illusion also - since after her accident the Talosions didn't have a human to go by to fix her looks - they put her back together wrong!
This whole sequence was surprisingly erotic for American TV in 1964. The line, "Funny how they are on this planet -- actually like being taken advantage of" was cut when the pilot footage was incorporated into the 2-part episode "The Menagerie" two years later.
I thot her name was Marta, not Tweenie or wutever Pike said
Swiiing! She made me boner feel like the Jolly Green Giant. I was going thru puberty when this episode was in syndication. I still have the green magic marker that I used to... uh, never mind
You're thinking of two different green women! Marta was played by Yvonne "Batgirl" Craig in the third-season episode "Whom Gods Destroy." This footage is from the show's original pilot episode, in which Captain Pike's dreams and fantasies are made real by the mind-controlling Talosians. In this sequence, the captured Earth girl Vina (played by Susan Oliver) appears in the guise of a green Orion slave girl.
Oops...yep, Charlotte Gercke prolly isn't looking too good now! Sowwy. By the way, I like her birth name, it sounds better.
You are up on your Star Trek trivia, scotpens!
OK, here's one for you: Lt. Uhura...body measurements including height weight bust waist hips cup-size. I Got's to know! Oh yeah, character's approximate age while in space.
I'm glad she wasn't wearing a diaper like the crazy NASA chicks wear!
Don't know about Uhura's body measurements or how old she was supposed to be, but there are nude pics of actress Nichelle Nichols (pre-Trek) that can easily be found on the net. Not bad looking, except a bit droopy around 50 degrees north latitude, if you know what I mean. Rumor has it Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry was banging her for a time -- while he was married to Majel "Nurse Christine Chapel" Barrett!
Jeffrey Hunter played Captain Pike in "The Cage," which was actually the series pilot. Most of "The Cage" was later incorporated into the two-part episode "The Menagerie" midway through Star Trek's first season.
If ENT was set 100 years before TOS, why didn't the women wear mini-skirts? Or should I say, why the hell didn't the company jump on this excuse to put the women in mini-skirts?
At least the Starfleet women in the evil Mirror Universe had bare midriffs, just like TOS. I always wondered what the practial military necessity was for designing uniforms like that.
