  • Una gran pelea entre dos grandes .. benitez apenas termino la pelea fue a felicitarlo esas son las cosas que lo hace mas grande todavia

  • GREAT FINISH! Leonard was handily ahead on the scorecards though!

  • dos jovenes maestros el vertiginoso sugar ray vs el niño prodigio del box orgullo de latino america eternos

  • They look more like light weights.

  • @Blake472 Both pretty tall. Look at Hearns at welter though; he makes Mo Blocker look like a fatty!

  • @Sammyboy72 yea

  • So many rounds were so close that I could conceivably see someone giving 5 or even possibly 6 (if you're a big Benitez fan) to Benitez, but with the knockdowns Leonard should've still won by AT THE VERY LEAST 5 points had the fight not been unfairly stopped. I personally would've had him winning by 10 (10 to Leonard with two 10-8 rounds, 2 to Benitez, 3 even), 148-138.

  • 1:55 Man that was gorgeous.

  • a left to the belly that hurt him that hurt leonard......ty for reminding me what a stupid twat cossell was

  • Great fight, I think the ref should've let Benitez finish the fight but it didn't make a difference because Leonard was way ahead.

  • I watched almost all of Sugar Ray Leonards fights in his career and one thing I don't understand is how people say and claim he had no punching power. Seriously the guy TKO'ed Benitez and Thomas "The Hit Man" Hearns. He also knocked the crap out of and nearly killed Laloned.

  • @KB8SD he has punching power especially when it comes from shier explosiveness SPEED IS POWER

  • what a POS Benitez was. He comes into the ring gritting on SRL acting like he's gonna ko him, then after the fight is over and Benitez gets ko'd he's hugging SRL and kissing his asshole. What a shit! As for SRL, watching these old fights makes me notice what a strong fighter SRL was, he was physically strong and he had a great chin. He really proved that in his 1st fight with Hearns. Hearns never hurt him even with his overrated right hand.

  • @gonzomoya420 wats wrong with you.... their friends

  • why does Dundee shooing Benitez away at the end?

  • @ANDALmanero

He wasn't shooing Benitez away, he was shooing someone else in the ring away. You can see the security guards going after whoever Angelo was complaining about.

  • Anybody who says SRL didn't have guts hasn't seen enough of his fights. That guy brought it all to the ring and if he had to, he left it all there.

  • atta boy wxc85! block the piglatin jerkoff! some morons just can't lose a debate no matter what moronic comments they come up with, shitlatin, I know you can see this. lol

  • @ztztzyzy yes shitlpiggyboy latin we all know you can read this lol !! well done ztzt

  • leonard's superior handspeed and punching power makes it difficult to benitez land combinations without getting too much punishment.benitez had great waist and head movements and a sticking jab but not enough against an olympic gold medallist

  • @fernan2901 what are you talking about olimpic medalist sugar fought a wash up Benitez who did a lot of drugs and was a world champion at 14 years old so if he was a champion a14 years old how many fights you think he had under his belt , i take your coments as an understatement.

  • Espetacular luta, best fight , dois grandes guerreiros que estavam invictos, Sugar mostra toda classe vencendo Benitez no final do 15 assalto.

  • Its hard to posit that Leonard was under rated. But the variety of fighting styles he mastered, the superb conditioning he had to sustain, the strength of the punches he fought through, the longevity of his career, all speak to legendary greatness. People are too easy to dismiss Leonard because of his looks and popularity. He was such a brilliant tactical fighter, using different styles against Benitez,Hagler,Hearns, and Duran. His intelligence and conditioning,I think, were what made him great.

  • @drfittt people dismiss leonard? he was one of the greats

  • @ChillPill365 No doubt. But like with Jordan, its easy to not give people of that caliber the credit they deserve for crafting their art so well as to make it look effortless. Similar thing with Ali. No one really credits him with the phenomenal stamina and conditioning and mental toughness he had to have to defeat Forman. People just hype the "rope-a dope". He made it look that easy.

  • @drfittt Longevity of his career?! Leonard was effectively done as a full-time fighter by age 25. He had barely 30 fights to his name at that point, only supplemented by carefully-timed comebacks mainly to face guys as shopworn as he was. There are legit reasons for 'dismissing' Leonard, like the close/controversial nature of his big wins (this fight being a perfect example), and failing to rematch any of them when it would have counted.

  • @FlaviusConstantius i hope your watching this fight ! close my arse lol here you are moaning about leonard winning !!!!!

  • @FlaviusConstantius you have no idea how to score a fight lol you are embarrassing to even have a debate with ! leonard won 9 benitzez 4 and 1 drawn with leonard winning the 15 with knockdown so another 2 point round ! see benitez all rubbery legged at the end !! i cannot debate with an idiot like you !!!

  • @FlaviusConstantius i hope your reading all these comments from all the other fans or maybe your just blind thats why you think this fight was close lol I WANT AN ANSWER ????????

  • @sweetassugar69 Because it was? No doubt you had Goldy Ray pitching shut outs in all his fights, but that's about what I'd expect from a silly fanboy who thinks he walked on water. I wouldn't be surprised if you had him ahead against Norris and Camacho too, lol.

  • @sweetassugar69 Go watch Benitez' fight with Bruce Curry. It's on youtube. He was allowed to continue there despite staggering all around the ring and almost falling out of it. Yet here he gets stopped on a flash knockdown after just slipping a few punches. With 6 seconds to go. When he was the champion. Very controversial at the time. Your wails would be heard 100 miles away if Leonard was stopped like that.

  • @FlaviusConstantius but he wasn't so thats that ! just watch the whole of this fight and tell me how the hell was this controversial when leonard dominated this fight ! you have proven yourself to be a complete buffooon with your views on scoring a fight !! masterfull boxing performance against el radar !! go learn if you wish to comment with me !!!!

  • @sweetassugar69 So what he wasn't? Whitaker should have had won the Chavez fight but never got the decision, does that mean we shouldn't comment on it?

And like I said, it's apparent you don't know what you're watching. Saying it was 'masterful' doesn't mean it was. Despite being hampered by a cut from a butt and having barely trained 2 weeks, Benitez held your hero in check with nothing more than feints and reflexes. Contrast with how easily Hearns and Curry handled Benitez.

  • @FlaviusConstantius so now your saying benitez is ahead in this fight ! you are a dimwit who has no idea how to score a fight ! deluded god i wish i would see you and slap some sense into your thick skull lol

  • @sweetassugar69 After everything that's been said and done, am I now to believe you can't even read properly? Do point out where I said Benitez was ahead in the fight.

  • @FlaviusConstantius comment below mine dimwit ! whitaker comment so now you are even forgetting what your writing read it flava flav

  • @sweetassugar69 Really? You think I said Benitez was ahead now do you, sweetums? Perhaps you need a new pair of specs.

  • @FlaviusConstantius It's like breaking a horse. The horses spirit is never quite the same again.

  • @FlaviusConstantius i dnt knw much about curry but as for hearns with his massive height and reach advantages that was to be expected

  • @FlaviusConstantius but leonard still won da fight that cannot not be questioned

  • Today the ref asks a hurt fighter to walk towards him. Benitez could not do that and turned his back the other way obviously disoriented.

  • poncekid56 benitez is a black puertorriqueno like tito trinidad roberto clemente all the pueroricans have african blood even if u are not a black puerorican and if u are frome puerto rico u should know or race is spanish black and indian dont be stupid and even u have african blood runing tru ur vains

  • Supreme Fight.

  • Padilla should not have stopped that fight. That was bullshit.

  • of course not. TOTALLY RIDICULOUS

  • @1URESAM

If the fight was not stopped when it did wilfred benitez would of had to be hospitalised he had no defense and never knew where he was.

Leonard was a supreme elite boxer.

  • @SirHappyThe1st

i agree that leonard was an elite fighter...my favourite fighter of all time aside of ali ofcourse. i just think benitez had a bit more fight in him but we'll never know because padilla stopped it so very quickly after the knockdown. notice that benitez bounced right up so it was really a flash knockdown.

  • @1URESAM

Benitez looked like he was taking unnecessary punches and was dead on his feet.

Should he have continued he would have risked serious injury just to finish a fight he would have lost anyway.

  • I have to disagree. I'm not even sure why Padilla let him fight after he got up. He looked to the crowd and looked like he didn't know where he was.

If he were winning, and just had to last it out, I'd have agreed. But, he was badly beaten up, and was losing badly. What difference would it make?

You realize that Benitez has brain damage suffered from boxing, right? You wish he took even more hits, while badly stunned?

  • @SirHappyThe1st

I disagree. The fight was stopped around 8 seconds of the final round. I highly doubt a physically fatigued Leonard would have landed enough blows within that amount of time to hospitalize Benitez. the ref was wrong for stopping the fight in my opinion, let Benitez hear the final bell. Losing by decision is alot better than losing by TKO in a boxer's eyes. Leonard would have won on the cards, sure. but let Benitez lose by decision, he earned it.

  • Benitez currently has brain damage. He was getting hit, and was exhausted and out on his feet. You think now, he wishes he had more brain damage from getting hit more? Did you forget the fatigued Leonard had just knocked him down?

Also, the ref doesn't know exactly how much time is left. Benitez fought a good fight against a guy with more talent, there's no shame in that.

  • wilfred benitez one of the greatest fighters ever !!! philly all day

  • Benitez: a truly GREAT champion who never got his due

  • Well he had a lot of Comp

  • JDezi4:

    ACTUALLY,FACT IS,HE DIDN'T.

  • Leonard, Hearns, Duran, Hagler... not good comp?

  • JDezi4;

NO,SORRY,I MISUNDERSTOOD "Comp" FOR Compensation($). FOR HIS SKILL AND GREATNESS,today,HIS "LIFE" IS A "cryin' shame".

  • great fight ! two great fighters !

  • Es Increible q dirknowitski taba ayi en el minuto 6:13 yo pense q todavia no habia nacio.....

  • Wilfred Took His L like a gentleman. He didnt argue fight it or anything, He knew and Gave leonard praise and hugged him. A Great Champion.

  • both are the legendary warriors. There were a bunch in one era like never before.

  • The 15th round was clearly the best round of the fight.Sugar Ray had not gone past the 10th round, but he finished the stronger against a younger opponent who had gone 15 rounds 5 times.

    Enought respect to both fighters.

And to that retard who says Benitez is not Black wtf!

Benitez has got as much Black African Blood in his veins as Sugar Ray leonard.

The only difference is that he spoke Spanish and that's all.

He was a talented Nigga like SRL.

  • Benitez was not black.. he's puerto rican..

  • @poncekid56

    you are stupid as shit.

  • stfu, you know absolutely nothing.

  • like i said. you are stupid as shit.

  • @1URESAM Shhh, hush now. You don't know what you're talking about.

  • not black? puerto rican? last i knew puerto rican was a nationality not a race.. he is black as sugar ray... melanin my friend is the key...pfg4life

  • Hispanic/latino isn't a race? Gtfo.

  • Comment removed

  • @lemigod yea a younger fighter that was a world champion at 14 years old so he actually fought a wash up benitez that did drugs sugar was more pure in that scence , to be a champion at 14 years old you have to fight a lot you dont do that with 10 or 20 fights so that goes to show that you knownothing about anything so stfu...

  • @lemigod what are you jelous that you cant go back to africa we colored puertoricans never lost our identety or our country we dont have to use words like african american we fought for our freedom in our own turf very diffrent from your situation as you see, and we celebata african culture in our turf we had balls to stick with it nikka .

  • @lemigod Yeah, who knows what the guy was talking about. He was a black Puerto Rican. There are many blacks over there.

  • Its funny these white people would father see a black man win the fight than a Latino..the fight should of not been STOP!!

  • You don't think that Latino has any black in him? Black? Latino? WTF?

  • not that i really care about the issue, but i would consider benitez more black than latino. but it's kind of a moot subject because latinos aren't a race they are a conglomerate of black, white, and native american. but benitez cleary has predominately black ancestory. and being that african americans are mixed, he probably is as black as any AM.

  • I never understood Sugar Ray Leonard. Right after he gets a shot, he never returns the favor and gives the other guy a rematch. He ducks an opponent if he knows he is a great fighter and only takes the fight if he knows they are either out of shape or over the hill. Only Hearns got to fight him twice at his prime. Duran was terribly out of shape the second time.

  • Are you kidding me? His first attempt at a title he faces a young undefeated stud in Benitez, then he fights the best lightweight ever in Duran and then faces another all-time great in Tommy Hearns. He didn't duck anybody.

Benitez didn't get a rematch most likely because there were bigger fights out there (Duran, Hearns).

He didnt rematch Tommy because he had the eye problems and Tommy moved up to 154. He fought Duran twice in six months...Why do it a third time after the No Mas incident

  • Comment removed

  • well that's durans fault. ray doesn't train duran, duran trains duran. ray beat duran the second time, because he knew the right way to fight him.

  • they should have let him finish the fight that fucked up when they do that to boxers

  • prime leonard.... underrated snapping power. leonard combined scary quickness w/ well leveraged power.

  • There was a gentleman's agreement to have an immediate rematch, but Leonard reneged and instead took a far less lucrative fight against journeyman Dave Boy Green. Benitez chased Leonard for years, to no avail.

  • Chills up and down my spine ... just chills!

  • then don't watch I'm tired of ur annoying comments goodbye ur blocked

  • Great fight by two legends of the ring.

    Thanks for the upload.

Benitez is underrated as a boxer. He took leonard and hearns to the 15th round and outboxed roberto duran.

  • wow look at the sugar man winning the title !! lol

  • 1. rays first title fight

    2. benitez, world class fighter who proved to be great by beating duran later.

    3. went 15 rounds

    4. very close.

    5. highly tactical(just because it isn't a brawl doesn't mean it is not good, infact it is better to see fighters think and use athletisism and strategy than to see two stupid fighters brawl without any good boxing form and just throw caution to the wind and become even more stupid) good fighters are the ones who knows each others strenghts and weeknesses.

  • @Piglatinsuperstar watch mma if u wanna c 2 people just throw caring wat happens re re re re re retard

  • Great fight.. These two guys and Hearns and Hagler and Duran made the 80s the great decade. Add Cueves in there.

  • and mugabe...pfg4life
