Well done vadelect. Very poignant. I had family shooting and killing each other on both sides. In October I go to pay homage to my Great Uncle who died at Gallipoli aged 15 and some weeks later to see the place that my Great Grandfather was born in Germany. His son (my grandfather) was wounded in action in France on the side of British. No all that many years before that Britain and Germany were allies. What madness war is.
That was absolutely brilliant! Now, if only Hollywood would stop doing that, making crap movies look good in trailer. Not saying that this is made from crap, of course.
same with me, especially as you really did get to love the characters and you think they'll make it through in the series, it was just such a sudden shock whjilst at thesame time being a haunting, sad series. But its still somehow the funniest.
I am so impressed. I have seen the series many times, and i stumbled over this some months ago. I've probably seen it ten times, and it still moves me
That was just bloody amazing. I don't know why people are kicking up such a fuss about it, because this is far more imaginitive than most of the other rubbish on youtube. And, you've really captured the poignancy of WW1. This is a really great tribute to a really great show :D And I'm now going to be really sad, and watch it again and again...
This was a fantastic bit of work, thank you for this. I wrote a well thought out post on this video, but it dissappeared into cyber space. In my frustraion, I decided to read all the post concerning this video. If you want to know why mankind frequently engages in the madness of war, just read through all of the post pertaining to this video. While some of the post are quite good, in others you will discover an abundance of lunacy, idiocy, and ignorance. Why do we have wars?Look in the mirror.
Why don't people understand the point of a recut trailer? Is there something sacred and written in stone about a trailer? Not even the actual trailer makers observe that rule. I can't tell you how many misleading but offical trailers I've seen. The point is thus: recut the trailer of a movie of a certain plotline and genre so it seems to have a different plotline and genre.
Wonderful recut, and brave, putting it into the tragic historical light one can only place the First World War, and actually the very last episode of this series does end on a rather tragic note for an otherwise hilarious sitcom. I respect that. When you think of it, it was brave of them to find the humor in the First World War with the show in the first place.
Wow, I used to watch Black Adder in Saudi Arabia many years ago, never thought the USA was ever ready for the dry wit of the Brits (God Love Them~!)but you did a terrific, very moving tribute. I fought in Viet Nam, and most people don't understand that a soldier prays for peace most of all, and you captured that sentiment that beautifully! God bless the memories of those who fought in that terrible war.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i don't understand this at all. why recut a comedy to be poignant? why is everybody falling over about how moving it is? it's just cheesy, overused "holywood sad-movie" music and clips taken out of the context intended and emotive comments "story of betrayal".. i mean.. why? what was the point?
Way to miss the point. Of course it's a comedy. The point of the video is to show that you can turn a comedy into what appears to be a serious war epic through editing.
No you're missing the point. I said it's HARD to take this seriously BECAUSE he took clips from a COMEDY and TRIED to make it into a serious war epic. It is just a matter of opinion. I think it's hard to take this seriously. YOU DON't.
The black comedy made light of what was a very dark and terrible time for europe. We laugh at the nonsical witterings but never forget the sacrafices that were made by many.
That is a supremely ignorant comment bullen81. I suppose the extinction of Jews, gypsies, Catholics, homosexuals, the mentally ill, and any other "undesirables" was not a "reason" for going to war on the part of the Allies? Surely the Munich agreement is evidence enough that the world could not be "divided" up?
Great Work! That almost got me teary eyed and I know the BlackAdder comedies very well. Perfect use of the "recut", make it seem like we have never seen it before.
Thanks, I was actually one of the squaddies marching during the making of the start of the series, it was my old regiment who are now srviong in Afghanistan, The Royal Anglian Regt. I would also like to dedicate this to all our current servicemen.
Blackadder goes forth, despite being rather silly at times, dose still have a very important message about how senseless that war was, and how generals acting blindly to how little progress they were making. All in all, a really good program and a very good video.
Amen brothers! To all you bloody spammers out there, I have one message to you: GO TO HELL AND SPAM THERE! You are so bloody bothersome, that even Satan will kick you out... And then YOU start a new hell... You can call it: "My-foot-up-your-spammer'-ass!"
sara is partly right y'know. That was most tragic thing: millions of people died so that war's would never happen again but the great war didn't solve any problems whatsoever.
To say nothing is untrue, but one great tragedy of the First World War is it might have been avoided or at most deflated if cooler heads on both sides had prevailed. It was a horrific exercise in blind nationalism. I can't think of an chapter more influential and significant in the 20th Century than the First World War. More may have died in the Second World War, but there probably wouldn't have been a Second had there not been a First and mistakes made in its resolutions.
To deny honor to those who gave their lives for their country is unjust, and the debate over whether it was inevitable or not has been raging on since it began and argued over by far smarter people than I am. Anyway, I respect this recut trailer, and what it attempts to do.
I love it! I rank Blackadder IV up there with MASH as the best shows in history to balance comedy and tragedy about war. Great job and I love the song.
Well Rowan did recently mention that if it were to happen, he'd love to do it in another war camp during WW2 (not too cunning if you ask me...). Tony Robinson also said a fifth series could take place in the 1960's, where Blackadder and his crew are in a band called the Black Adder Five. He only said that on one occasion, though. A BA 5 would be grand, hopefully it will materialize eventually, especially now that Rowan has more or less decided to let Mr. Bean go.

Blackadder Goes Fourth:
Between 1914 and 1918, a savage war tore across Europe the likes of which had never been seen before.
Over nine million soldiers lost their lives in the conflict.
With luck, this was one of them.

The last episode is very hard to watch.
Especially the clip of No Mans Land with nothing in it.
I cant imagine how scary it must have been to be a soldier and have to live in those conditions.
And the points where you had to join up, even if you were a married man under the age of 40.
Basically, 50,000 of our men died every week for absolutely nothing.
