This here. Yeah this comment thread is full of people with misinterpretations and misunderstandings. It's really basic if you knew who JL was and what he believed in. He's makes a great point in this song. Oh, realize he's with Yoko during this time. C'mon everyone. Think a little more or a lot more lol not to offend but help you defend from stupid opinions.
isn't this song about how man rapes women of the diginity, self-esteem, self worth, and executes them through violence, (verbal), lower pay, sexual harassment, advancement in the work place for sexual favors. Using their bodies to sell his goods, for his own sexual frustrations. abandons them when things go wrong,(pregnancy).. this word has everything to do with how the white man's continuous treatment of the African Americans. John was a genius and is MISSED.
@sky4thewin Agreed. Also, people should know that the "N" word is not strictly used to stereotype black people. It has a completely separate and original definition.
I think John meant that women are treated like crap, they're the misfits of the world because men always want the upperhand, just my take on it-sorry if noone else sees it.
@tyla140 Agree your comments... John meant to say that... about how society spots women always in 2nd place... James Brown's 'It's a man's world' talks about the same. Both great statements/songs!
@tyla140 Gee, how could no one see it that way?! That's the ONLY way to see this song. That's what John's singing about. How could anybody think this song means anything else BUT what you just pointed out?!
Yeah I totally agree with this song, but I'm so cynical I figure he only wrote it just to get some feminist puss... Nobody switches sides when theirs is the one in control.
Heh...And this song is especially funny considering who won the last election! xD
By this time they were so into politics and legal shit thats all besides the kids(and they even had legal problems with one of them). Thats all they had coming at them all day long. Some was self imposed. The musis was good! Thanks 'Elephants Memory" and piggies1.
I'd have to strongly disagree, having recently discovered his five main solo albums (Plastic Ono Band, Imagine, Walls and Bridges, Sometime in New York City, and Double Fantasy).
'Sometime in New York City', from which this track is taken, is the political album. Also, the *song* 'Imagine' is obviously making a philosophical statement, but aside from that it's really not as you describe.
@ViolentRiC Listen,I voted for Bush, but I am old enough to separate music (even with lyrics like these) from my wiev on politics.Grow up,be a human instead of a robot.
How in the blue hell does your response make any sense in relation to mine?
Somebody stated that John's solo work is all about preaching and making statements. I pointed out that it's really only 'Sometime in New York City' and the song 'Imagine'.
You know, somehow during my journey I managed to miss the album 'Mind Games' completely! No idea how I did that, but I'll definitely give that a listen. I did mention 'Walls and Bridges' though.
All I was really pointing out was that the *vast* majority of Lennon's music isn't even nearly as political as people assume it to be.
So appropriate for these days. GFY GOP

I love seeing people getting angry with Lennon for this but John's not racist, all he's doing is saying woman are treated like shit.
