But here's a dumb question: If your employer asks you to lose weight, what's wrong with losing a little weight? I mean, they can't ask it, but if they did, who cares, lose some weight. Bot the company and the person win. Win, win, good.

This might happen in the entertainment businesses like the show girls. If they cannot keep slim, they are out. Coz they wear no dress to strike a success. Good figure counts.
It is perhaps not alright to fire a person in the middle of the contract for his failing appearance. But the company has all the right not to renew the contract if the employee does not meet the entry requirement. That is the flexibility for any private companies to exercise the discretion to choose the best candidate they are looking for.
Hmm, I don't get it. In Japan, I'm pretty sure in Japan all potential applicants must include a profile photo of themselves with their resume. Therefore Japan obviously hires based on appearance - so why can't they fire based on the same thing?
I am certain Prada is definitely not the only company that does this. Appearance plays a big part in many companies' hiring/promotion processes, whether they are related to the fashion industry or not.
Hence the saying "Dress for success". The problem here is that the CEO was stupid enough to list age/looks as the reasons to let people go. Most companies just find other excuses to fire said persons.
