I think a sad thing for me here (born in '57, Mt. Sinai Hospital, Cleveland) was hearing my parents' memories of a vibrant city they'd enjoyed growing up in. There was almost nothing left here any good by the '60s, there was martial law, riots, and later, bankruptcy. I took two spouses here and they were both quite horrified. This is a very interesting clip, however, thank you. Greetings from France from a Pennsy Dutch Slovenian Ohio born gal. sigh
The BP building doesn't have many of the businesses in it today as it did in 89. The galleria was way more crowded each day 20 years ago, now it's never busy. And now it's not normal anymore to bring cameras in buidlings. Terminal Tower won't let you do that anymore and we know why. The tall building at 5:26 is the Cleveland State tower.
Great Video, that was before the tallest building was built the Key Tower, lso before Progressive Field, Quicken Loans Arena, and Cleveland Browns Stadium, and the Rock Hall of Fame
What a great old video ..I was born and raised in Cleveland .Thanks for the look back at the old skyline. Many of those sights are now only memories / history
I realize this was shot 20 years ago... but Lake Erie wasn't then, nor is now the largest of the great lakes. It is the SHALLOWEST, but Lakes Superior, Michigan and Huron are each larger than Lake Erie...
Was Dennis Kucinich or Carl Stokes still mayor of Cleveland a the time? Funny, you did not mention the infamous Cuyahoga "buring river"! I was 35 at that time. I'm native born to Cleveland, and to this day have never been up in the Terminal Tower's observation floor! I used to work downtown. One of my fave memories of downtown was the fat lady by May Company banging her tamorine and screaming at folks with her Jeeesus preaching! She told my wife she was gonna go to hell for those HOT PANTS!
Society Center, which was being built at the time of this video, is what became Key Tower, I think. And it was so great to see Higbees! I even remember that WMMS billboard because my dad used to drive me that way at least once a week back then. Anyway, thank you - it was so great to remember the Cleveland of my early teens

Kucinich pretty much helped bankrupt the city almost. Everything went down hill after Stokes.

this is a great video. I was a bit sad to see the engineers building being demolished for the marriot-that's where I saw my first concert.

Also strange to see the 90 without Jacobs Field and the Q. And Key Tower wasn't built yet either!

I always wish I had been able to go to the observation deck. The terminal tower, ever since I was a kid, has been a building that has fascinated me.

I thought Lake Superior was the largest of the five great lakes.
