They usually have an entrance which is the full width of the hive, but not too deep, and has a lighting board, where the fight takes place This gives the guard bees more chance to gang up on intruders like wasps. I have seen this in my own hives years ago. : )

Nature does not consider if the battle is fair. The slow-mo dance that reveals that the insects are fighting - at full speed you would never notice. In NZ wasps are called "German Wasps" - they are small and sometimes nasty - but the bees are soft and furry.
