This movie doesn't glorify Chapman, it tries to get you to think like him until he meets Lennon for the first time, and then you realize all Chapman really needed was a friend. Chapman just couldn't function in society and felt like everyone had betrayed him, even his idol John Lennon. It ended tragically for them both.

i watched this film.... a few days before christmas and it was great, just a little slow, if you like the book the catcher in the rye watch this. i read that for the first time and then watched this movie that night and the only bad thing i can say is that i couldnt focus because i was tired from reading all day, but other than that, jared gave me chills! especially in that ending scene. " Mr. Lennon." agh, its creepy! such a transformation. really a must see.

John Lennons death was one of the most important events of the 20th century. The only surprise is that it took so long to make a movie about it. It is a story that demands to be told. We make films on other tragic events & nobody says a damn thing about it bringing attention to guilty parties but the PC crowd jump on the bandwagon for this one. Chapman is doing his time. Let him be. This is not a biography of his entire life. Just 24 hrs of it & what he did in those hours that changed the world.

And right after shooting John, Mark Chapman pulled out the book sat on the curb and began reading it. It was his favorite book and he wanted to be like the main character in it.
Mark didn't want fame. He hated John Lennon, and nothing could have stopped him from killing Lennon. AND he did have female interest. He was married, he flew to New York with the intent of killing John, and changed his mind, went home, and told his wife what he had planned to do. She convinced him he needed help. Soon, he went back and that's when he killed Lennon. The movie isn't about sex appeal, or romanticizing a thing, it's about Mark's mental state. How he loved and hated John so much..

i didn't know of the existence of this movie, but as weird as it may sound, looking at the trailer it seems like this could be Lohan's best performance... yet, no one ever talked about this movie. it's always easier to diss on someone than actually complementing them when they do something good. Humanity: i just don't get it...

John Lennons death was one of the most important events of the 20th century. The only surprise is that it took so long to make a movie about it. It is a story that demands to be told. We make films on other tragic events & nobody says a damn thing about it bringing attention to guilty parties but the PC crowd jump on the bandwagon for this one. Chapman is doing his time. Let him be. This is not a biography of his entire life. Just 24 hrs of it & what he did in those hours that changed the world.

Now Im a big John Lennon fan. So I thought Automatically I'd hate this film as I was under the impression it glamorizes Chapman BUT on the other hand Jared Leto happens to be a terrific actor and an absolute musical genious. After watching the film I believe it could have been done in a more tasteful way but Leto's perfromance was amazing.Shame the same couldn't be said for lohan who in my opinion buts a downer on the film.

@llpowers I believe it's because the book Catcher in the Rye has 26 chapters, if I'm not mistaken.
And right after shooting John, Mark Chapman pulled out the book sat on the curb and began reading it. It was his favorite book and he wanted to be like the main character in it.

Mark didn't want fame. He hated John Lennon, and nothing could have stopped him from killing Lennon. AND he did have female interest. He was married, he flew to New York with the intent of killing John, and changed his mind, went home, and told his wife what he had planned to do. She convinced him he needed help. Soon, he went back and that's when he killed Lennon. The movie isn't about sex appeal, or romanticizing a thing, it's about Mark's mental state. How he loved and hated John so much..

Yes, Lennon was different in his own way, but he wasn't a sick man. He had a tramatic childhood and was probably scarred from that. Read Lennon Revealed, an actual insiders book instead of that rubbish. Paul McCartney even said that it was rubbish.

@monieo555 I've read the majority of Lennon/beatle books over the years and am able to distinguish between fact & fiction. There is hardly any new revelations in Goldmans book. Lennon raped a girl in K.C. on a tour, I've read that in other places. He may have killed that man he attacked, he even admitted to this and you think because he had a bad childhood that we should disregard this because Mccartney said it wasnt true?

Mccartneys pr life is to keep the beatles image, squeaky clean, much like himself when nothing could be further from the truth! The reason he didnt want that book coming out is because he knew the TRUTH that it contained and knew people would find out more about the real Lennon. As far as I'm concerned for what Lennon did in his life, he got what he deserved in the end!

This movie is going to be made regardless, moaning about giving Mark Chapman fame is rubbish, a bit late for that I think! For Jared Leto to have done this movie, and done it as well as he has is testament to him only. Shameful thing about the movie is Lohan!

This annoys me. I want to see this film.
But fame is what this guy wanted. I would much rather see a film in the opinion of John Lennon being killed rather Mark Chapman killing him. I want to remember John Lennon. Not his killer.
Or maybe something for Yoko's point of view. Which could be based on true events spot on rather than conspiracys.
I want to know everything....what he was doing before he was killed...What he said to Mark when he saw him when he came out the apartment.
