  • Great train sound by pick at the end

  • i prefer this to the album version. This is raw and kicking ass

  • Nice raw version!

  • Sounds like one of JJ Cale's songs and that ain't a bad thing :)

  • Holy SHIT! This is one of the best things to ever go in my ear holes.

  • this is so much better than the album version

  • awesome!!!

  • This is such an under-appreciated song; one of many of DS / Mr Knopfler's.

I always figured it's bcs they have so many worldwide monster hits (that get played almost to death on commercial radio) that the merely awesome get buried in the pile. (Fleetwood Mac, Led Zep, & Dylan all suffer the same syndrome; I'm sure there are many others.)

Grillogrigss, thanks so much for posting this here to share w/ all of us, & to help others who don't know DS's whole body o' work to find new faves.

  • I have a very rare CD ( Dire Straits Nürnberg 1979 ) and hire was played Mark this version + the rarest song ever... first time in 1979 twisting by the pool in Nürnberg : )

  • Really need to go through these tracks and upload them at the right speed. These are all a half note sharp, and going way too fast. An easy fix with free software. Look into it.

  • nice catch re lyrics, eyebone, I always wondered whether that 2nd verse printed in the album ever existed - and indeed, here it is! Pick's cowbell solo makes an appearance here also.

  • This version was sometimes played in concert. I have a bootleg of a 79' concert in Amsterdam where they play this version. Amazing.

  • This actually has the second verse in it! 1.14 to 1.42. These lyrics were actually printed in the CD, but never sung. I always wonder what the deal was with that. And here they are. Too bad they shortened this for the album. It's a great song

  • reminds me on the 70ies..smoothin down the street ^^ somehow funky :)

  • great solo

  • The guitar in this version changes the whole feel of the song. I like both versions about the same. To me they're like 2 different songs.

  • Grillogriggs, thanks heaps for posting. Love it! Great original DS sound.

  • Where I can find this song? :)

  • The original is on their first album 'Dire Straits' but not as good as this demo though.

  • This is just awesome!

  • Superb! but thank god they never used that doctor Who shit at the end

  • WAY more tough than the album version! It also explains how DS would play this song live in the late 70s.

  • Can anybody send me the mp3 version of this song? It's great indeed!

  • great!
