Was on this approach earlier this summer. To the other posts, this approach is a bit challenging, but its not something to be scared of (probably saying this because I'm a pilot, but these guys have a lot of experience flying in/out of these small strips). TASTE SOME ADVENTURE PPL!!! PR was fantastic, and so were the "Spanish Virgin Islands"...spent just a day on Culebra and although we didnt visit Flamenco (bummer), the scuba at Luis Peña was more than enough to fall in love with the carribean
I have heard the landing is crazy. I couldn't imagine flying to Culebra. I took the boat out to the island from Fajardo, Puerto Rico and loved Flamenco Beach, amazing!
Cool video, now I know I will not fly in a Cessna, lol.
@MrFuntany First time I went to Culebra was in a one engine 7 passenger airplane. Landing was not exactly a dream, but was nothing to be afraid of. In fact I have not heard of any landing tragedy occurring in Culebra, From San Juan it is a 15-20 minute flight. It is worth it.
This is one of my favorite parts of our annual trip! What a rush! One part scary landing, one part so excited to be back in the most beautiful place in the world! Can't wait to be back there in March!
I can't wait to experience this flight again. It all happened by accident because the freey was full. The next time I go to PR, I will fly both ways to and from Culebra. :)
that one its the flamenco approach the other approach its the tamarindo approach its over the mountain and most ofthe time the old pilots make that one ....
en aviones pequeños la alarma usualmente suena par de nudos antes de que el avión caiga en un stall. Ese avión es un islander y pues es muy seguro porque puede volar a velocidades bastante bajas.
yep, every plane that lands there goes between the two mountains and lands...when you look at it from the ground it looks like a easy landing, when you ride on the plane it's a rollercoaster
Actually, there is another called the flamenco approach (I think), basicaly, you go over the mountain. I have only seen it done once but its possible. Its very rare though, most likely people do it for fun.
it's not the only approach, but it's by far the most common.... i've been to culebra like 300 or 400 times, and i have not seen any plane land with the other over the mountain approach....
pinoynyc I bet I'm making more money here in North Carolina than you will ever make but I'm affraid you will be jealous about it too. You sad because your own government does not support you? Poor thing!

@dquinnc Nope, Puertorricans do not have the right to vote for the President, unless you are a resident of one of t he 50 States. Puerto Rico is a colony, not a State.
Many Thanks. I brought Aztecs and Cherokee sixes to Culebra many times in the 1980's as a charter commercial pilot from P.R. Anyone with a video with a left strong crosswind and all that turbulence? The left crosswind was like a tailwind on the 45 degree aproach, Challenging landings. At the end, there is la lagoon waiting for you. I never forget them. Made me a pilot.

Awesome landing lol
I get worried each time I hear the stall alarm.
I know it's a challenge to land on a runway that's short after a mountain and worst if it's too short and small like that one xD
