Greets from Scotland,,Thanx for your comment ,,,Sorry if I was a bit-O-a buzzkill,,,,not my intentions, just voicing my sadness at the death of a man I've admired for many a happy year,,,,
he could have said it in a sadder way,but sice he did'nt i will. he's dead, just a bag of old bones.....and probably laughing at such stupid tributes from people he did'nt want to talk to.
yeah and besides Syd didn't likethat song anyway. at least that's what he told the rest of the Floyd when he walked into the studio when they were either recording it or rehearshing it
@corleonex Shine on You crazy Diamond was written as a tribute to syd, by the remaining members of the band. syd out of the blue, arrived at the studio and was there during final mixing of the song. he was asked what he thought of the song, and syd's reply was, " Sounds kinda old...".............the last words syd spoke to them collectively, as a whole.
He did take this song seriously. Just as seriously as he took "Bike". He took ALL of his music very seriously. Even "Vegetable Man" which he made up fairly "on the spot" (the lyrics to that song in particular make me feel rather sad for him). It's a just a silly bouncy rhythm as usual with Syd's typical play on words connecting style - adding more meaning than we could ever notice superficially but still maintaining the feel good bouncy rhythm he seemed to enjoy making.
I think your right. His voice is a lot louder on the next song, Octopus. They were telling him to sing louder or turn the mic up and that "We can't hear your voice." to which you can hear him reply "Okay". He sounded fed up.
Even although he was indubitably great the notion goes he was a little bit bonkers.
Poo to you with knobs on, I say! He just shone like the crazy diamond he was. Such a man will never be forgotten.

@Traductus5972 i believe that song was wrote by syd when he was very young. So i don´t think he really took it as a serious band song

The guys at the end of the song are telling him to sing up, because they can't hear him. That's the impression I got anyway.
