I mounted my scope use the armrests on my sofa. it's more difficult and time consuming, but it's possible. Though, I would want one of those if I had the money and space for it.
After reading several reviews all have said this thing is overpriced and wish it was made of metal but was better than nothing at all. Does anyone know where I can find a good quality vise or should I give up and go to the local iron shop?
these are usefull for cleaning, adding scopes and aiming up scopes but u can do most of that without a gun vice as i have for most my life without a gun vise
I mounted the pistol scope on my Mark III Target using a standard bench vise and some blocks of wood to protect the finish. Ghetto I know, but I cant bring myself to spend the money for having only one scoped gun.
mounted your scope, on the porch, gun in your lap, no vice needed. Ummm, ok...I imagine that scope is about as level as your egg shaped head too. I'm telling you all, there is a reason inbreeding is outlawed up north.
I like my vice,... I just wish is wasn't plastic... it seems to not give a true tight fit... I set it level to put on my scope, then ever so slightly it would move... even so it did the job....
NO this vice is not set up for that. I would think it damage the vice and/or the firearm. Its a great tool for working on and cleaning your firearms. The one thing he did not talk about was the Front can be lowered and the vice and be moved and off set too. Its a GREAT vice I will not part with mine. I see them all the time for $99 but Cabelas had it this weekend for $79 can not beat that.
I recently bought one of these. It's pretty nice so far. I would like one that clamps the fore end though, for sanding and stuff. I replaced my trigger guard assembly and had to sand the inside of the stock(where the magazine goes) and had to have a second guy hold it down.
I've done that, many, many times, but a good vise would have made life so much easier and safer (for the gun). In the end I made my own. Midway are selling this vise for silly money at the moment and they do a basic model that will do for sighting in for half that. Even a cheap vise (I made my own) will make cleaning much easier and potentially less messy too.
I mounted my scope easily in about 2 minutes with no vice. :D I'm 14!!!

@Lghtng2 you can make one yourself with 2 vise (not gun vise) that you mount on a wooden plank

When he said "now if you take my gun-vise away from me..." I thought he was going to say "I'll shoot you."

I will say that is a nice gun vice. Maybe not for the money but it does have some nice features.
