  • how do the exhaust pipes work on these V8s? I only see three pipes per bank..

  • Heh...yeah the flatheads didnt have any right hand torque(or as it left?) hmmm. Ohh well. I remeber staring one up on the shop floor without any restrains becasue they had no oommmph over to the side.Well...a little but you could restrain it with one hand.

  • Compare the simplicity of the old flathead's to the nightmare of working on today's overhead valve engines. Say you have a blown head gasket for example. On a flathead, no problem. Just pull the head off and put in a new gasket. But what if the blown head gasket is on a 4.6 liter Ford V8? Unless you're a mechanic you probably won't be able to do it yourself and a shop will probably cost you $2,000 or more.

  • @imjustpassinthru Isnt that the sad truth.I had a 4 cyl ford sourier engine,TO change the head gasket i had to actually pull the radiator out to get to a little tin plate cover to access a timming chain release spring. In order to take out the radiator i had to ;on and on,,,,an on.On a chevy luv ,It was a simple little task of remove head bolts and timming gear and exhaust couple. That was it.,,,really that was it.Ok,ok...I had to take off the carb linkage. But that was it.really.
