  • 1lb of jerky for $4 for the beef and $3 for the seasoning is an excellent deal! Great vid btw. Do you use cure in yours?

  • dude... real jerky is thin cuts of steak

  • using ground meat for jerky is wrong on so many levels.

  • thats disgusting! cheap bastards don't want to buy real jerky meat!

  • people are dumb, if u know what ur doing it is good and safe to eat

  • I don't understand how this is easier than just buying steak and slicing it? It only takes a few minutes to do it properly.

  • With the way ground beef is processed I would not even consider using Ground beef for jerky It just sounds like a great way of getting food poisoning.

  • how much would it cost to make a days worth of jerky?

  • Not sure if I would make beef jerky out of ground beef. Seems like you'd get sick from it.

  • I didn't know you could make jerky with ground meat. Thanks!

  • how much is all the equipment?

  • Ground beef jerkey? The texture would be all wrong.

  • *pukes*

  • Mate thanks alot! =) Thank you for the great upload, LONG LIVE BEEF JERKY

  • i made some today its soooo good dude says lots of money thnx mate

  • It's simple to make and you get great results....Bob's your uncle..

    cheers mate...

  • the gun look like it's pooping =J

  • making it with ground beef really works ?

  • where is the finished product?

  • haha you packed meat in a tube, on youtube!!

  • *already

  • Whats that machine your using the white one what is it called? and that little one too?

  • @gmlgm The large white thing is a dehydrator and the little thing is a jerky gun...Just like the thing you use to make cookies.

  • Because of THIS video, I went out and got the same jerky gun. Thank you very much. I can't wait to try it out.

  • I got a Nesco dehydrator and the instructions to make jerky with grond beef is nasty. Unless, I buy a london broil cut (the one I used to make my first jerky) and have the butcher to ground it.

  • that is sooo cool.

  • Grind you own lean meat that's cool...Very lean ground beef is the trick...The kit seasonings from Nesco work great. Good luck...

  • I've never made beef jerky with ground meat before, I always used very clean steaks, hmm i think I'm gonna try this, It's going to save me some money

  • @Jurkowski1987 It will and I can tell you it works well you can fool the best of the jerky eaters out there. Perfect texture, taste and color. Give it a go....

  • I have never done jerky with ground meat before, Could you just pick up a couple pounds of ground beef and use that? Or are you better off grinding up a round roast?

  • Ground beef is just fine make sure it is very lean meat. Grinding a rount is a great idea just make sure you trim off the fat and the silver.

  • I have never done just with ground meat before, Could you just pick up a couple pounds of ground beef and use that? Or are you better off grinding up a round roast?

  • what the fuck is this??? if thats what you call jerky you've got fuckin issues

  • If you are going to get that upset over some dude posting a video on youtube, you've got issues.

Nice vid BTW. I wish you would have shown the finished product though.

  • Can I use my calking gun?

  • If you can figure a way to usa a calking gun your one up on me. I would stick with the Jerky gun it's food safe plastic and is not going to tase like liquid nails or window calk. Good luck.

  • how much dose that dryer cost

  • The drier will set you back about $ 50.00 US maybe cheaper if you shop around.

    Thank you for your inquirey.

  • Nice video...You explained it very well!

    Thanks!

  • Cool thanks give it a try it really is easy.

    Have fun.

  • Thank you for your comment.

  • Man what the heck is that its called beef jerky not ground beef jerky next time just make burgers

  • everybody loves beef jerky

  • Why didn't you show us how it looks like???

  • " finished material "

  • HI usa2cc272,

I wanted to know the tool you used for the thing that pushed out the meat into little strips. :)

    Thanks alot.

  • Its a jerky gun / jerky press. Its made by the Nesco company. Go Goggle and im sure you will find somethingng. The press really works great and is easy to clean.

  • Thanks mate :).

  • Yes the oven will work fine you just need some kind of mesh rack to make it work.

Most ovens start at 150 degrees F. Jerky should be dried at about 150 degrees F You may have to leave the door of your oven slightly to maintain the proper temp.

  • Cabelas sells a three tier rack and cookie sheet set for jerky in the oven. You can dry the jerky up to 200 degrees F. and it only takes 2-3 hours. Faster than a dehydrator. Cabelas has an online store if you don't have one close to you.

  • hey is it OK to eat beef jerky from dollarama?

  • Its probably okay as long as theres no mold on it. Sounds more like road kill to me. I would stick with home made its way better.

  • weres wall-mart in england lol

  • Try Asda or Woolworths. I havent seen them there in the South London area as yet but they might be available to order on line.

  • thank you m8 :-)

  • can you use sorloin

  • you can use any piece of meat as long as it doesnt have much fat in it. fat makes jerky go rancid.

  • LOL MAN !!

  • I tried a marinade (soy sauce , oil, honey, water, spices) before putting my ground up flank steak in my Jerky gun. It came out looking like something my cat would leave in her cat-box. I will stay away from the marinade next time. My beef strips are stuck like glue to my dehydrator screens . Should I spray the screen first with Pam? Strips seemed kind of thick comming out of the gun also. Thanks for the great video.

  • Ok I know what you did wrong. You must never use oil. It will ruin your jerky. It will affect the drying process in a very negitive way as the meat will never dry. Try using the dry jerky mix from Walmart and allways remember to use very lean meats with virtually no fat. I have never had a bad batch ever. Try again follow the jerky mix directions and you will have the best jerky on earth I promis.

  • Thanks , my next batch was perfect. I used a marinade with a 4 lb. eye of round roast (($ 4.49 /lb.) cut to 1/4 inch thick. I then tried some ground up extra lean beef ($4.99 /lb.) and used the spices without the marinade and it came out great.

  • Why use a spoon? Just bang the tube into the hamburger ..... Save the spoon for Ice Cream.

  • That works as well I like the spoon method it works just fine.

  • Hi there, nice video...just wondering if its ok to use hamburger grounded meat?? Because I noticed that they have fat in it, so just wondering if that is what you used. Thanks

  • Its good stuff...You should be able to find a dehydrator in the UK pretty easy I would think. Its worth looking into especially if your in the UK. I was there and didnt see any jerky at Tesco. Get started your mates will love you for this one.

    Thanks for the comment

  • i gotta get me one o those beef guns

  • It's even easier if you have a kitchenaid stand mixer that you can use attachments with. I have the meat grinder attachment, so I grind the meat myself. Then I use the mixer to blend in the spices and salt. Take the end for making strips that comes with the Jerky shooter and put it on the end of the meat grinder behind the large lock nut. Put the blended meat back through the meat grinder and the strips come out the other end. A little pressure with the wooden pusher makes it come out faster.

  • Awsome tip thank you. Thats a very efficient way to make jerky. I like your way of thinking. I mostly make batches around 2 lbs finished. Havent needed the mixer yet maybe I need to? thanks for the tip.

  • Thanks, I just made 6 lbs of jerky. It took one hour. That's from raw meat to starting the dehydrator. I bought a 6 lb sirloin tip roast (on sale for $1.99/lb) and trimmed off all the fat that I could, ground it, mixed in the salt/spices (from American Harvest), and made the strips using the method I described. I'll never do it any other way if I can help it. One other benefit is that there is virtually no dripping grease from the meat during dehydrating since most of the fat is gone.

  • you two make me hungry just talking about it :(

  • Can you make another video of what you do with it at the end? i want to see what it looks like using this type of meat:) ive been thinking of buying a machine and tool thing for my dad for fathers day :)

  • I did make a revised video but was not happy with its video quality. Go ahead and buy the equipment Dad will love it if hes handy in the kitchen and loves beef jerky. The finish product is store quality.

  • You should have rolled out that ground beef like a roll of cookie dough the length of that tube and slide the meat in. Would have been faster. Would like to have been there to try some of that.

  • Good tip never thought to do that. Your right it would be quicker. Thanks for the tip.

  • I have the same set up as you, I like to slice up a flank steak and soak it in some teriyaki marinade, it turns out pretty tasty. Great video

  • Thank you very much for your comment.

This ground meat is very fast on the start to finish. No marinating overnight or slicing involved you litterally set it and forget it. I like cutting strips now and again the meat cures a bit to black for me. This burger jerky is laughy taffy when it comes to being fun and easy for any skill level. Have fun make jerky.

  • beef jerky is awsome!

  • brings out the caveman in me i want more more more people start to chant. my poor little machine can only crank out so much. What would they call me if this were to become my full time job... A jerky?

  • Thanks for sharing, mister Jerk-tician!

I like in the UK but I've lived in PA for a while and LOVE jerky so much that my time there allowed me to sample! Jerky is available in the UK but it is extortionately priced and I have yet to see a dehydrator so I'm looking to either make one or try to source one from the US (Oven would work but I want a dedicated machine as I love it so much)

I agree with you totally that jerky is a fantastic snack with a beer or just to munch on to curb the hunger pangs

  • thank you for posting this nice video, im never buying beef jerky again, dont know why its so expensive lol :-)

  • Thank you for your comment this jerky is easy to make and tastes as good if not better then store bought.

  • can you use a jerkey gun with buffalo?

  • Yes just NO POULTRY.I have not tried buffalo but I have tried deer meat and it worked well ....Beef works best for now good luck with your jerky.

  • I got my jerky gun last night at basspro for 18.99!!I made 6 pounds of ground beff jerky and 15 pounds ofeye round roast jerky.

  • WOW that`s some jerky work there..Your cranking out enough to run a business. I hope it worked out well for you.

  • I was having fun and yes it turned out great!!

  • Wow nice idea with the strips =] i spend a fortune on the stuff.. i am obsessed with it so i need to start making my own. thanks for the info

  • Its easy and it works well...Its cost effective to have the equipment around. I used to make beer and that was a project...This is Homer Simpson easy.. All go no do`h.

  • Same here i bought my stuff last night to make it and already have 21 pounds drying!!!if you go to bass pro they have the jerky gun on sale for 18.99 and the jerky cannon for45.99 and it comes with seasoning and stuff!!

  • i read on other sites that you are suppose to set the dehydrator to lowest setting temperature, you set it to the highest, is that okay?

  • This is ground meet its better dried on high for four hours.I put a lot of meat on my drying racks it works out fine. Trick is not to cook the meat just dry it out. Shifting the racks is very important near the two hour time mark.

  • every thins is found at wal mart

  • wtf its mixered meat into guu and then he usses gun to flatten it out like that?? i thought beef jerkey is cut pieces of meat that dry not mashed meat formed into strips????

  • It `s high quality beef much like you would select in the sliced form. The texture is just like real jerky maybe better. You don't have to deal with all the waste gristle and tendon matter. This may not appeal to you but I will tell you that I need to lock it up at work to keep people from borrowing it.. They know its awesome there my test subjects. Thanks for the comment

  • we cant get this shit in australia.. :(

  • What, beef jerky??? course we can.

  • Yes you can.... go out and enjoy it....So easy to make its silly.

  • You can get it matey have a look on the web. Hardware is available. The meat you purchase locally.

  • What is the average cost per pound of homemade jerky versus at the supermarket?

  • Homemade jerky Is about half the price of supermarket.

  • jerky gun? hmm have to make one myself

  • Much easier to just buy the thing unless you got some spare bits hanging about in the garage. might not be recommended or even a good idea. Good luck.

  • ground?!?!?!?! GOOD GOD MAN I do see the point though. beef is so expensive these days. I'm thinking about maybe going with brisket myself.

  • how good is beef jerky? Im from the uk so ive never tryed it, I bought some online they should be here soon

  • if you're a fan of meat, then you should love it

  • you'll have a tastegasm

  • hell yeah you will. mmmmm mmmmmm

  • If you have tastebuds then you'll love it. Get your ass to sainsburys, they sell it there.

  • Do they?!?!

  • Yes. Near the booze dept. Its called rocking Jerky or somthing. Its in a plastic bag with the stars and stripes on it.

Get the peppered one and the original. Let me know how it goes.

  • awsome for me it took a little while to get used to,, but then it was amazing i now have buffalo jerkey and alagator jerkey

  • it sound cool

  • chicory not forget, preferably cold

  • What do I do with the chicory. Pass me a beer. I will send you some jerky. I think I owe you some. And I believe I have the correct address.

    Hope your keeping well.

    Robert

  • are u using hamburger meat?

  • yea he is

  • How do you make sure that there are no bacterial growth in the process of the making jerky? Does the drying process kill all the germs?

  • This recipe is ok.. I tried it a couple years ago when I bought my Nesco. But you are really better off with a Rump Roast, or even better, a Sirlion tip Roast. Your local butcher can often slice if for you, making it a much easier job. I can give you some recipes that are tried and true, as well as the web has a bunch.

  • i'll be using this video as help step by step when i make mine.. wish me luck!

  • that should work the jerky gun/press should give you the edge. 4 hours drying time on high 150 degrees. shift the trays around during dry time this helps if your using extra full racks as well as added racks as you have mentioned. It works a treat every time. Use good beef keep me posted.

  • nice video, explains alot but for some reason my jerky comes out like sausage. taste likes it, feels like it, looks like it. I used flank steak then i used chuck steak. Both came out sausagy. Whats up with that?

  • Sounds like a drying issue or your pieces are cut to thick. I use the ground beef and the jerky press. This produces a consistent thickness that makes dry time a simple task. for thicker pieces of meat a smoker would be a much better option. If you chose to use the dryer use simple 2 day marinades with smoke flavor and cut your pieces around 1/8 inch thick let them soak in a zip lock bag. You should be good to go.

  • the pieces are same size as yours and i use a jerky gun, not sure if thats the same thing as a jerky press. I refuse to spent more money on this. bought the dehydrator +2 trays, jerky gun, a ton of seasoning and cure and who knows what else. I dont want to cut my pieces but rather stick with the jerky gun and hopefully figure that out. Thanks for the fast reply but i dont think i will ever figure this one out.

  • what seasonings/spices do you use?

  • I use the Nesco jerky season it works well. You can use almost any jerky season to the proper ratio and you will have great results. Its a breeze give it a go.

  • hey I just got one of these im using a roast can you just use ground beef ?

  • Yes you can use very lean ground beef and jerky seasonings to make a very good easy jerky.

  • LOl here i am thinking you had to buy a stupid flank steak to make this stuff and cut it yourself, I didn't know you could use ground hamburger meat, ever cool. BTW i have the same dyhydrator as you.

  • pass on the flank its giving you the yank..Sharp knives 2 day marinades there taking up all your valuable time. Just toss a few things together here and your off. Its good stuff you can fool the best of them out there. I got 2 extra racks to hold more beef about 2 pounds wet. It will be a big hit go for it my friend.

  • it looks good

    yumm

  • Thank you very much

  • what where the itemes you used?

what where there names as i havnt ever seen anything like that befor

i hope you enjoyed your beefjurkie

  • Its very lean ground beef mixed with powder seasonings for jerky making. Homer Simpson could make this stuff. The jerky taste store bought quality. Thanks for the comment.

  • Nesco food dehydrator 1 pound of very lean ground beef,A jerky gun and some jerky seasonings. 4 hours drying time on high.

    Hope this helps you

    Thank you

  • Can I use a seasoning similar to what I would rub on my ribs. I am trying to cut down on salt and the Nesco seasonings probably have a lot of salt.

  • Jerky needs a certain salt content to cure properly. I would eat less if I were you. Stick with the proper curing procedure to be safe. If you want to reduce your salt intake then cure fruits and veggis they dont need salt to cure and there very healthy as well as salt free.

  • You deserve the best now go and make some jerky

    Thanks for the comment

  • u fry the hamburger before right?

  • No this is not Paula`s kitchen you by no means "fry" the hamburger this will truly put the "screws" to your jerky project. Google food dehydrators and you should find supplies like jerky mix for ground beef. Good luck go for it don't look back. Thank you for your comment.

  • huh? lol

  • stop being a damn fool

  • Your welcome hope it was helpful Thank you for your comment.

  • Out of curiosity, how long does the Jerky last for if you cook them this way?

  • Its shelf life is good when left in the fridge about 30 days or so It can be frozen as well and then it will last a year at least. Most of the time you will need to hide the jerky to make it last a day or so. I recommend a wall safe if available. The rest is history. Thank you for your comment.

  • Nice! Do you only eat it the one way? you can't treat it like bacon or anything?

It's pretty hard to come by in the UK, but the only time i've come across it, it was called something like Rawhide jerky and was incredibly stringy which put me off, hence why I was looking how to make it myself!

Also is it true that when it was made in the days of the wild west, cowboys used to dry it out by placing it under their saddles?

  • The jerky is a snack food unlike bacon this is a dried food product that requires no cooking after it`s made. It is a bit like chewy leathery bits of meat. Make sure you can buy the proper cure to process with.. As far as beef jerky made under a saddle how good could that have been?

Best regards and good luck its fun and easy.

  • damn, i always wanted to know what beef jerky tastes, they dont sell it in norway where i live i think they sell fucking forikål, past forikål on google and find out why i am unhappy.. GODDAMN IT, i cant relax

  • Best way i can describe the texture of the jerky is a leather like stiff to flexible feel and a salty peppery flavor. It good should be able to make it at home using many different drying and or smoking methods. Thank you for your comment. Still not sure what forikål is.

    Cheers

  • AWW! why did you say that! now i want it more!!

    here is fårikål: img502 . imageshack . us/img502 / 9242 / friklwi6.jpg be sure not to throw up lol

  • You have to try jerky - it's amazing :D

  • They used to sell beef jerky on 7/11 in norway... You can just order over the internett.

  • Ground beef when seasoned right makes damn good jerky and like the man says it won't sprain your jaw. The fat will drip though.

  • Yeah man ground beef does make for good jerky its simple not much prep and you don`t need an expensive smoker or a lot of special equipment to produce a damn good finish product. Thank you for your comment.

  • MHMMMMMM JERKY

  • That's awesome!

  • I've got the same jerky dehydrator! LOL

  • Wall mart hummm don't have one of them in Australia :( but thanks for the vid, I just got a dryer like yours and this vid helped thankyou

is tour ingredient list a secrete?

  • wdf!!this is not a beef jerky everything went wrong.i only knew beef jerky is a thin slice not grounded.hehehehe .i guess you are making a hambuger patties strip .hehehehe .lol .but its fun to watch thou.

  • Im with gwapsgyud this is NOT beef jerky.... i make been jerky n its a new idea i guess but this would b a lazy way to do it and i doubt it tasts like real jerky.... anyway good vid tho if ppl wanted to do this

  • thx cheryy. he is making a jerky burger .hehehe but its a new way of making or he just being silly ..

  • Um...yeah...it is beef jerky. It's made from beef. DH and I make it this very way, but spiral it on the trays to fit more. People are always begging us to make more. They freak when we tell them it's ground beef. Nothing lazy about this method. Just different than what you are used to using. It tastes very much like "regular" jerky. Most don't know the difference unless we tell them.

  • I`am Gumby dam it....This was a "rough" video that everything turned out wrong. The jerky is quite good simple mix of very lean "fresh" ground beef and spice. It is a simple method to make a very simple product. Its jerky for dummies 101. might not be the same as that jaw braking chewy crap some people like.. Its good I like it. Next vid will be better no doubt. Thank You

  • Just starting out learning to make Biltong or Beff Jerky, and I want to thank you for your idea on how to make another variety - just goes to show that there are no limits to creativity!

"Jaw-breaking", tho is a bit strong a condemnation, wouldn't you say?! I have good teeth and good jaw muscles and enjoy satisfying my primeval desires to tear strips of meat off something or some-one ...

    Wolverine

  • Not to be a dick, but there was so much repeated material you said in there that some of it was a waste of time. i would of liked to see the strips up close before and after cooking.

Also, i have to say this does -not- look very good. im from a small town so theres alot of farmers that make their own jerky, even one that ships to fishing/hunting resorts and the like. So i don't know if your doing this because of the lack of availability or maybe this is high quality, who knows. we don't.

  • well thats 1 way to do it. AND LOOKS GOOD

  • That was really god how you made the jerky, Beef Jerky and some cold beers make a good combo, I'll have to try make it that way myself it looks really good, thank you for making this video,

    Paul.

  • That is one way to make jerky. The crap way. He didnt show us the spices he used or the amounts nor a time lapse of the final product.

  • Thank you for your comment...You are right this was a rough take and the first part of the video got cut out as well as my head. The seasonings are available at walmart in the small appliance isle with the dehydrators. Next vid will be better I promise.

    Best regards

    Rob

  • You said 4 scoops.... I counted 6.

  • Your right barbershop It was six scoops..I should have been more accurate. How ever the jerky was a treat for the taste buds. The people at my work loved so much they followed me all day as If I were the Pied Piper. It may not be the best jerky but it`s sure easy to make.

    Cheers

    Robert

  • I'm a believer!
