Does this thing even have to work on a Aurora. I'd be very upset if it does. Those Auroras are worth 1,000 of dollars! Atleast the monitor is less than the other moniters (I guess).
@MrGameWithFame It has an HDMI input, as long as you had an HDMI cable, yes this would work. I use my Alienware m17x as a monitor when playing my xbox sometimes.
I cannot recommend this monitor at all. It illumination is really bad, there's a clearly visible white area on the top and the bottom of the screen. Also it makes a annoying sound if you turn the brightness down.

@ClassicSlayer sorry for the slow reply, in order too use 3D with your ps3 you will need the sony 3D glasses and receiver but you should be able to use them with this monitor. in order too use a pc with 3D you will need the nvidia glasses and a 3D ready nvidia video card in your pc.
@RATSHADY - I ended up getting the Alienware aw2310 because it has a matte finish screen (no reflection issues) and has tilt, pivot, and height adjustability. The Asus VG236H was my second choice, but it has a glossy screen (lots of reflections). The Acer IMHO is a distant third place because of it's crap quality (especially the monitor stand) compared to either the Alienware or Asus monitors. Oh, and the Alienware monitor comes with a 3-year full coverage warranty with free advance shipping!
for 3D you have three options. 3D Consoles need to run through a 3D TV with appropiate glasses for that TV. for 3D PC games you need a 3D Monitor, a 3D enabled gaphics card being either ATI or nVidia and then the glasses that go with it. As far as I am aware you cannot use glasses from one produc with another and you cannot use PS3 3D with a PC 3D Screen... I could be wrong on the PS3 stuff as I'm not a console fag

@xXgodOFsnipexX - for 3D to work with the PS3, both a 3D certified TV and the specific 3D glasses that come with it are required. 3D computer monitors on the other hand work differently and require Dual-link DVI-D from a certified 3D graphics card capable of providing a true 120hz signzal to the monitor. Only just recently was HDMI 1.4a approved which allows for the bandwidth required for providing true 120hz (2 x 60hz). In this case, both the graphics card and monitor require a HDMI 1.4a port.
sorry to keep adding posts but also as you need to use shutter glasses that alternate between each eye, when using 3d you will only be seeing the image at 60Hz, there for making the point that it improves clarity, a false claim. unless of course you were going to use it without the 3d but in that case for this price I could think of better monitors to buy.
the main reason for this being 120Hz is that it is 3D ready, in order for nvidia 3D technology to work it needs to run at 120Hz, 60Hz for each eye. improved clarity is just a by product and an extra selling point.

Yes you can use The Alienware LCD with any computer. To get 120Hz you need to use the dual link DVI cable.
People wanting to use Xboxes and playstation 3s do not really need all the features. HDMI hookup is still 60hz (standard LCD) so it maybe overkill if thats all you want it for. Some people do both, PC 120hz and also console hookups.
Its on sale so I'll be trying to grab one.

Will display the game with much smoother animation than a 60hz LCD. This will work on ATI or Nvidia graphics cards. The 3D is not really needed.
Also you will have almost zero tearing at 120hz. That combined with a low input lag make the 120Hz LCDs almost most like the older CRT monitors. Probably close enough for Pro gamers to use. They need to lower the price.

It seems the manufacturers stumbled upon a 2D improvement in LCDs without intending to. They did 120Hz so they could run separate images each at 60hz. Ie.Your right eye sees every other frame. The glases are synced so the right eye sees every other picture and the left gets the other half. The pictures are offset so you get the 3D effect. The unintended gain is the 2D performance increase.

If you're not using Nvidia 3d glasses, the benefit here is higher hz. Meaning you will see up to 120FPS instead of only 60FPS. You'll of course need a strong video card but the difference is real.
But I want a 2560x1440 @ 120 hz 3d monitor with real pure picture quality. Iam willing to wait and to pay lots for it. Will they ever make this monitor Iam talking about? :S
It all depends on how well they sell. I hope they do. I have a feeling you will be waiting for more than 1 year for those specs. Don't forget you will need dual top of the line video cards for decent game performance at that rez.

@ausoz I haven't watched any blu rays on it but I have watched several dvd movies and they looked great. I spent some time adjusting the monitor and I am very pleased with it. IMO, the color accuracy and contrast is very good. What I really like how clear and sharp images are and it added a noticeable amount of depth to games. Of course this depends on what monitor and graphics card you are accustomed too. I'm running crossfire with 2 Diamond 5770 video cards. I am very pleased with the monitor.
I am freeking out here, I felt that I just have been scammed on more then U$500 by Dell and Alienware scam group.

Ok I want to place here my experience with this monitor.
Well it was the worst ever experience with a computer piece in my whole life! To start with that the monitor does not turn on at all!!!!! And since I am in Brasil and I bought this in USA the fu$%ing Dell does not cover my warranty here, send it back and forth to US would cost another monitor and even so there is no way to do it, since they ask for a service tag to access the technical suport, problem is, the monitor did not came with...

You dont have to use the 3d. Even without it the 120hz is so much easier on your eyes and much more fluid. But its expensive because its new technology for now so Im waiting.

I'm pretty sure you can. You can do it with Eyefinity, so why not 3DVS. Personally, though, I'd take one monitor over two; I couldn't stand the bezel being in the center of my vision.

I ran out of room.
The LCD operating at 120hz with a 2D game (ie. quake, unreal, COD4 etc)
Will display the game with much smoother animation than a 60hz LCD. This will work on ATI or Nvidia graphics cards. The 3D is not really needed.
Also you will have almost zero tearing at 120hz. That combined with a low input lag make the 120Hz LCDs almost most like the older CRT monitors. Probably close enough for Pro gamers to use. They need to lower the price.

I wish Dell would sell this without all the Nvidia 3D hardware. Basically some 3D glasses.
It seems the manufacturers stumbled upon a 2D improvement in LCDs without intending to. They did 120Hz so they could run separate images each at 60hz. Ie.Your right eye sees every other frame. The glases are synced so the right eye sees every other picture and the left gets the other half. The pictures are offset so you get the 3D effect. The unintended gain is the 2D performance increase.

If you're not using Nvidia 3d glasses, the benefit here is higher hz. Meaning you will see up to 120FPS instead of only 60FPS. You'll of course need a strong video card but the difference is real.

It all depends on how well they sell. I hope they do. I have a feeling you will be waiting for more than 1 year for those specs. Don't forget you will need dual top of the line video cards for decent game performance at that rez.

@ausoz I haven't watched any blu rays on it but I have watched several dvd movies and they looked great. I spent some time adjusting the monitor and I am very pleased with it. IMO, the color accuracy and contrast is very good. What I really like how clear and sharp images are and it added a noticeable amount of depth to games. Of course this depends on what monitor and graphics card you are accustomed too. I'm running crossfire with 2 Diamond 5770 video cards. I am very pleased with the monitor.

I am freeking out here, I felt that I just have been scammed on more then U$500 by Dell and Alienware scam group.
So if you plan to buy anything from Dell or specially from Alienware be aware that customer relationship is non existent for this company, you will be alone and helpless.

a service tag! Going to Alienware website also ask for a client number that would suposedly come with a card with my system, but since I only bought a monitor it did not came with that card and no number for me as well soo I can't have tech suport from AlienWare as well. Last but not least I tried the phone of both companies and they say they can't help me because I am outside of USA no matter what I tell them.

Ok I want to place here my experience with this monitor.
Well it was the worst ever experience with a computer piece in my whole life! To start with that the monitor does not turn on at all!!!!! And since I am in Brasil and I bought this in USA the fu$%ing Dell does not cover my warranty here, send it back and forth to US would cost another monitor and even so there is no way to do it, since they ask for a service tag to access the technical suport, problem is, the monitor did not came with...

Peple say this is one of the best for gaming, dell is reliable specially cause its monitors last very long but im kinda sure that one is very crap compared to a S-IPS + wide gamut monitor...I wish someone did the comparison here cause im holding back to now buy it cuz im gamer but im designer, plus im picky with details even in game and real collors, black too

Alright, after a lot of efforts to choose a good gaming monitor and a good photo, etc for designer (like me) gotta say
That monitor sucks bad, even the new one, compared to IPS + wide gamut monitors, so much that ANYONE even a little blind would get terribly annoyed seeing them both together.
Thats made of the most common material: TN
Heres what u can best get:
S-IPS>H-IPS>e-IPS>LED>TN (kinda all monitors u see are tn)
So beware, IPS IS BETTER THAN LED AND WAAAAAY BETTER THAN THAT SCREEN.

The nvidia glasses just last one year, some say its boring after a week some say its always awesome even after months so its up to u. Its a nice monitor tough but i recommend a S-IPS technology based monitor (brand NEC very famous for it and cheap) if u dont want 3d, games will look a lot better on IPS monitors, dell has some of them, but dell brand is the most expensive. :P

yes it does, you need to order "special" shutter glasses though and they dont come out for the mainstream market until about autumn, so i would wait until then to purchase a 3d monitor like i am :), the best 3d glasses you will be able to get (better than nvidias 3d vision) are bit coldron glasses

@PeterFoldberg If you go to the Nvidia website, you can view a list of games that are compatible with 3d (even games that aren't on the list are compatible, at least some of them.) The list is 350 games long.

You dont have to use the 3d. Even without it the 120hz is so much easier on your eyes and much more fluid. But its expensive because its new technology for now so Im waiting.

I'm pretty sure you can. You can do it with Eyefinity, so why not 3DVS. Personally, though, I'd take one monitor over two; I couldn't stand the bezel being in the center of my vision.
