I've personally always liked the Elder Scrolls series better than Fallout because the world is so much more original , in depth , and massive , but Fallout is fun too and I've got all of both , so I don't give a fuck .

Fallout 3- Better story, better voice actors, better map layout (I can't criticize New Vegas, it does after all, take place in a desert), more pre-war lore.

New Vegas- More advanced weapons (In FO3 most of the cooler weapons were in the DLC's), Larger map, catchier music, alot more exploring because of terrain. (Rocky and Mountainous)

I like them equally, perhaps 3 more, but only by the fact that 3 has Fawkes and the nice laser and Vegas only has lily and her shit-assault rifle.

New Vegas was cool, but there's something about Fallout 3 that is just... better. Fallout 3 felt like I was part of an actual world, living in history. I wanted to explore EVERYTHING, unlike with New Vegas where I was like "okay I just want to be done" after playing for a bit. If Fallout 4 has the same feel as Fallout 3 and the improvements in gameplay that New Vegas had... then game of the year for sure.

One's a post-apocalyptic RPG, the other's a fantasy RPG. Similar systems, but very different themes. They're not better, they're different, and in terms of game mechanics, Skyrim's newer and people confuse that with 'better' or 'worse'.
