How to Set Up and Secure a Wireless Network on a Laptop

I have a home PC (What im using now) but i got a laptop to, a new one and no OS was on it, so i instaled Windows XP SP2 on, and idk how to connect with a cable to the net, bcz i have 2 interent cables so i connect one in my PC and one i the laptop. So, can you hhelp please? :\

is there any way I can install it without the disk? cuz I have no disk. my laptops wifi was working perfectly but I accidently dropped it on the ground and now when I click the button on my laptop to turn wifi on..it doesn't anymore. when u clicked the button it would turn blue which went it's working but now it stays red which means it's not turning on thus not working! plz help

my laptop is a toshiba/recra 8200 it does have wireless as i have used it upstairs but all of a sudden it just wont let me connect wireless im currently usin a lead direct from my modem to laptop..i belive something has gone wrong in my control panel or something like that appreciate it if anyone could give me a tip or even make a video on how to resolve this problems chhers.

@grantisbwfc the router may have gone out somehow if you are able to connect directly to your modem....you can check with your ISP they now have the modem/router in one if you locate the extra funds, & eliminate the router completely.
