Witnessed real fight in the street with a good MMA guy local fighter that had trained in it for years against a street fighter.The MMA guy smashed him with punches knocked him to the ground got on top of him in mount started raining punches down on him,the streetfighter took the punches managed to get his hand down back of his pants & rammed two fingers right up his arsehole,MMA guy stopped punched & screamed,then streetf.yanked his arm to one side stil with fingers in arsehole....
What really makes me laugh is that im seing man sau - wu sau followed by basically what is street brawling. I practiced wing chun for two years, recently gave up and took -one- muay thai private lesson. I can honestly say, in a fight with rules or sparring i'd use the muay thai techniques i learnt and not whatever wing chun i know.

The biggest problem I see with this sparring match is that the gloves both members are wearing are too large. This prohibits much of the blocking and sensitivity that wing chun is famous for. Also add to that stress and addrenaline which causes one's skill to decrease.
Wing Chun like 98% of classical style looks great when being performed for you but looks like shit and breaks down when put in real combat form. Every video Ive seen is the same with people thinking its the people and not the style that sucks when its the other way around. The only arts ive seen work is Muay Thi, Boxing, Wrestling, Bjj, and Judo. If I had to pick ONE classical style Ive seen work in combat is Shotokan Karate. People need to stop watching kung fu movies and fight!

Great stuff, guys! Its about time someone did some wing chun sparring. Im sick to death of watching demos with cooperating partners. Sparring is the most important aspect of fighting by far.
You wing chun guys should cross train in boxing, muay thai and BJJ. You guys would be great then.
I like wing chun, but on its own, I find it very lacking for real fighting. Just mix it up with other styles and youre onto a winner.
Just my o2... but wing chung fighters will benefit a lot is you first study a little boxing.. learn the proper blocking and punching tecnhiques.... the finest and refined european style (more on the blocking side but any style will do..)... the mere training with speed bags and heavy bags will develop your punches with a lot of motion economy... then... I think the chain punches and better ways to protect the jaw will come in to play... If any of theses guys sparred with a boxer will be KO

You think catch wrestlers are not training in the guard? You got some Shotokan Karate school know using Thai kicks in there training. Wing Chun Looks AMAZING when being performed for you, but as you can see in this video simply breaks down. Thats why Bruce Lee moved on from WC because when he came to the west he saw how it sucked!

@firefishable I can tell they're starting out WT but like many without lots of experience and time in the technical aspects, they become wild when hits start flying. They're not all over but the WT breaks down when hits start. The guy in red is less wild but still not centered and tight like good experienced WT and JKD guys usually are. I'd say give'em some time and training and it will get better. Just experience.
Hey! I know that sparring has to be moderate to have a learning process. Under too much pressure, it is difficult to learn the right way of movement in every martial art. Hard sparring with few safeties is for advanced people. I spar with a german kickboxing champ on a regular basis, it's pretty rough, but great training :). What I meant by saying, that they are wild: It could have been much more technically.
I hear ya brother, however when you're already using a video camera, stress level is high and you dont want things to go crazy. However the way we used to spar with my Sifu's school was more violent. Students were often quitting too, discouraged, which is not the goal of learning Ving Tsun.
@combatvingtsun WOW your Sifu sounds really promising. I would seriously want to learn from his school. If students are quitting, then that means that his way of teachings is either really bad or really good. If I am correct, it would be the latter (good) in which he teaches more traditional martial arts. The most honest martial art schools are usually those with the least amount of students.
Its just sparring, a level of control is needed to get anything out of it. The point of sparring is test ones techniques under pressure.
I think the reason you see soo little sparring in WT/WC is that many many high level instructors would get exposed because they have NEVER sparred a day in their life.

I hear ya brother, however when you're already using a video camera, stress level is high and you dont want things to go crazy. However the way we used to spar with my Sifu's school was more violent. Students were often quitting too, discouraged, which is not the goal of learning Ving Tsun.

@combatvingtsun WOW your Sifu sounds really promising. I would seriously want to learn from his school. If students are quitting, then that means that his way of teachings is either really bad or really good. If I am correct, it would be the latter (good) in which he teaches more traditional martial arts. The most honest martial art schools are usually those with the least amount of students.

Relax.
Its just sparring, a level of control is needed to get anything out of it. The point of sparring is test ones techniques under pressure.
I think the reason you see soo little sparring in WT/WC is that many many high level instructors would get exposed because they have NEVER sparred a day in their life.

@combatvingtsun Its a combat sport. You get hit and hurt. I dont see boxers and thai boxers quitting after getting knocked out?

I'd suggest:
1. More Chun moves.
2. NHB gloves or less.
3. More continuity...keep going once in..
4. To that goal, knock down match rules..
