  • hey nice video, how to add a memory if i've done patition with D and i want to add to drice C... do you know???

  • @MGJadiehl you mean to extend the drive C? you can extend drive c with 3rd partition manager, there is a free one, MiniTool partition manager wizard, it is easy for you to delete partition, copy partition ,hide partition and other operations. you can have a try.

  • @youknowita can you make a video for that?

  • @MGJadiehl yeah

  • @youknowita send me the link when your done bro....Thanks again bro

  • @MGJadiehl hi guy, i have sent a link to you for that :)

  • @youknowita where?

  • I have a question. When I go to do this, Computer Management>Storage>Disk Management, it says the CD-ROM is the only disk available. Why is this? Am I unable to perform this partition? I lost the disks a while ago, should I get the disks again and how could I do that? Does my computer's manufacturer have the disks available online?? I'm so confused...Any help would be much appreciated... Oh btw I'm running Windows Vista on an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC (notebook).

  • thanks a lot bro..just one quick question ...if i got 50 GB of free memory space in C drive.can i make a new volume of the whole 50 GB... ??

  • I dont understand.. why can I only shrink 2gb? i have a 300gb HD.. 2gb will not be enough room for W7

  • sound lad it helped

  • thank you man. really helped.

  • thumbs up if your doing this so you can do this for w7

  • I have tried and failed to do this with the manager and diskpart, is there a way to, after shrinking x amount from D, to extend C? I have 2.86GB free on C and it says there's not enough free space to extend the volume

  • @ThereAreCookies Partition manager wizard is really a good thing, MiniTool partition manager wizard is a good choice for you. It is easy to use and it is efficient. Saved my partitions with this tool!! Some editions are FREEEEE. You can have a try. Extend or other operation is not a problem.

  • helpful.....

  • Thak you so much you helped me a l to backup my information to format the main Hard Drive partition

  • I can only shrink it about 530 mb less not gigabites

  • hi is it ok if i shrink a ssd drive into 2 ? cause i wanna install windows 2000

  • @korgpadude it must either be unformatted, or be NTFS.

  • idiot nothink delets you stupid scum

  • mine dosent say shrink volume and im using an ipod set to disk mode

  • @sonicguy3 It's because the Ipods internal disk, is not compatible with the Disk Management software. In order for Disk Management to shrink a volume, the disk must be either unformatted, or formatted with NTFS.

  • what happens if u use all ur gb then format the new one u made?

  • "size of available shrink space can be restricted if snapshots or pagefiles are enabled on the volume"? What does this mean and how can i fix it? please help me :)

  • oh so iif you delete it will it go back towards the original hard driive ? or it will just delete it period.?

  • thanks, kid.

  • I FIXED MY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE PARTLY BECAUSE OF YOU! :) THANK YOU!

  • Oh and I had a question, what exactly does it do? Does this help your computer run better? Or make it go faster. Cause my computer iss horrible. And has been getting really bad the last few days so wil this help it get a little faster in any way. I dont think my anti virus is doing a very good job :P

  • @karenk321 From the sound of your problem, you might need to clean the registry (you can do this manually by using "run" in the start menu or Windows key + R, and type "regedit" I do not recommend it unless you know what the changes will do) but portioning only creates separate allocations, on the disk, it should affect performance.

  • Thanks a lot.

  • Hello techAustralia,Can you Tell Me how colud you zoom in the SCREEN!!

    thank you!!

  • hello bro.. wat is EISA Configuration thing? i got 2 of it.. one is 18GB n one more is 3.54 GB.. wat is that?

  • thanks for the tutorial. the windows help told me to right click on the drive and select an option that wasn't there. this was a great help thank you so much.

    cheers

  • horrible

  • all of these tutorials are by 12 year olds what does that say about this world

  • Thanks it worked,

good vid, everything was easy to understand, :D

  • great and helpful

  • nice job kid

  • Dear T/A, I hope this works. The guys at Buffalo told me to create a partition for the 1T external hard drive so Vista will recognize it upon startup. I used your turorial to figure out how to do it. I hope this works. Thanks..

  • Thanks a lot!

    It is very helpful!

  • how do i remove a drive?

  • ISNT THE REASON YOU LOOSE 1MB DUE TO EXTERNAL FRAGMENTATION ? OR IS IT BECAUSE THAT MB HOLD THE INFORMATION ON THE SPACE LIKE AN INODE IN UNIX ? just a guess but still id like to know

  • does anyone know what i should do when my C: doesnt show up in Disk Management?

  • can anyone help me out with a question? if i make a partitioning and put all of my music into the new hard drive, and then format C: drive, do i lose all of the music in the new hard drive too?

  • From my experience with many formats of drive C you will not lose any of your music/misc files from the second partition. Just make sure that you install the OS into the C drive again.

  • Thanks! Good Video 5/5 (:

  • That was quite a good video.

  • I just erased system 32 NoooooooOOooooOO

  • If you erase System32, how are you typing this...You would have to reinstall windows haha

  • i right click but it don't say shrink volume

  • thanx!!

  • my space to shrink is only 176mb...what can i do?

  • i have a problem when I go to manage I don't have any HDD what I do

  • It would not let me format my partition...it said its to the max. but there is only 3, partition..1 is for OS other is for 1.Recovery 3 is for manager,(health).. how many parttion can you have on 1 HD?

  • very good - thank you

  • beautiful man!

  • This was a very helpful video...I was stuck and it really helped. It was extremely simple and clear. Thanks very much. Please keep up the good work.

  • my MB setting won't let me me shrink over 698MB. whats going on?

  • Anyone who has had a problem like I have (which is computer saying can't partition more than 0)

The reason why Windows wont let you shrink the volume is because there are immovable system files at the very end of the volume.

The solution would be downloading a program called PerfectDisk and defragging with that application using its SMART Placement option.

I have tried Windows Defrag as well as JKDefrag and neither of those worked. This one does work though.

  • Thanks for giving the tip.

  • i have 145 gb free in local disk c and 10gb in drive d is it good to have more free space in c or less?

  • Partitioning is only good if you want to install another OS on your computer. If you don't, you should put as much space in to your C Drive.

  • thanx 4 the reply so if i have more space in local disk c will the boot time be faster or slower?because my cousin said when the computer start up it only run the c drive and not the d drive so you can put more space to d drive and all the download(movie) to d drive and put least space(files) to c drive since the computer run the c drive and not the d drive.

  • The size of your C Drive doesn't change the speed.

  • @techAustralia not only that, but you should always leave about five gigabytes free (in versions of windows since 98) for the virtual memory/paging files, because you can also cause the computer to permanently lock up if it cannot put the paging files on the disk. I did this myself on 98, and it would stay up less than 5 minutes, then crash it did have a 5.24 GB hard drive installed.

  • @techAustralia When I open up disk management then my C drive isnt showing. Its only showing removable ones... :/

    Any help?

  • thx man. i have a question tho, whats partitioning software for if you can do it without it?

  • Sorry, I haven't actually heard of any partitioning software apart from the one which came with Windows Vista.

  • Mine says it can't be shrunk. It says the max is 0.

  • thanks for this... worked perfectly

  • yeah i have same problem. my hard disk is 220gb and i can shrink only 10gb. help me please

  • Maybe try to shrink 10gb at a time until you want you've reached the size you want.

  • thx that really helped me out so much thank u so much

  • hey thanks i was trying to figure out how to do that and you saved me

    THANKS MATE

  • thanks, for your simple and brilliant tutorial

  • Thanks

  • when i try to shrink volume it says that i dont have access.

what am i gonna do to get access

  • THANKS DEAR

  • I tried to shrink my C Drive, one thing I can't seem to get is, my HDD is 500Gb, obviously i have used up a lot of space. Now I got only 188gb free When go through the Shrink process it says : Enter the total size in MB (I have: 9743) Then (Total size after Shrink in MB which is: 467195. What would be the MB to Shrink up at least 50-60 gb out of 188gb! I tired the online mb to gb converter however when I write the numbers down, they don't match and I don't get the option to shrink either.

  • HELP ME PLEASE !! ??

Why my computer MAXIMUM shrink 10Gb only from 220gb hard drive ??

    Thanks for the video.

  • that's exact problem I am having as well!

  • It looks like your system is finding the white space not filled by anything, or in other words, it found a safe number for you to use without interfering with existing data on your disk. You might be smarter than that, but Vista is trying to guard against people shrinking their volume too much and destroying data.

  • thanks man it help me out

  • dude! thanks! you help me alot!

  • When I partition the HDD, will it run on Vistas or will I be able to run it on another type of application?

I seriously need your help with this one.

  • yes you can run another os on that partition

  • thank you man!!!

  • ok so i recently restored my computer and when i did i restored my 160gb hard drive to 72gb because i wanted it for a seperate o.s. now 75gb are unallocated, so how do i allocate it?

  • You helped me soooo, much, mate!

  • hey 10 gb is 10240 mb

    just saying

  • this probably isn't the right place to ask, but is there anyway to Access a hard drive without formatting it?

  • You can access all the Hard Drives that were already made.

  • how do i create a hard drive?

  • You already have one. Just go on my computer and you should see something like a C Drive or it might say OS (C:).

  • yes but i want 2 of them for a dual boot for windows 7 and windows vista

  • That's the point of this video. After you follow all the steps, you'll be able to make a hard drive.

  • how to delete that i need new one

  • right-click and click delete volume.

  • thx but now i can't create new one i need help!!!!

  • HOW TO PUT MORE GB ON >C FROM >D ....

  • hey so if i do this for an external USB hard drive (formated in NTFS) and re format that partition as FAT32... would i be able to use that partition to back up my PS3's interal hard drive (because it needs to be FAT32 and i dont want to reformat the whole thing)

  • I don't think you're even able to partition USB Hard Drives on vista.

  • Yep I was able to partition it, though the only format options it gave me were NTFS and exFAT. So I used the DOS command prompt to try and get the partition formated as FAT32... but it was apparently too big. I'm thinking I'm just gonna have to buy a new external hard drive and format the whole thing as FAT32? I can't lose the info that's on my current one.

  • Hi TechAustralia I have a laptop with 287GB(132GB FREE) of disk space on C: and I wish to create a new partition of about 20GB but I am only have 1314MB available to shrink. Any ideas?

  • will this erase my data ??

  • No.

  • I got a new laptop and i want to create a new partition..the one part. that i have i C: with 453 GB and the other is RECOVERY D:...I want to schrink C: because i want to create one partition with 400 GB and i want to Leave the 53 GB for windows and other programs but it shows me that the size of available schrink space is only 223 GB..Can you help me how to make it 400 ?..PLZ answer..i hope you understand my bad english

  • I think I know whats happening, you have already used up 230 GB of space on your C Drive, so you can't create a 400GB partition, because you don't have enough space.

  • That was great. Thank you!!

  • how do u do this on ipods

  • thank you so much :D

  • Thanks man, that help me out quite a bit!
