The thing I do not understand is where you mention this file must be copied to the C:\Windows\System32\sysprep folder. The problem I am experiencing is, there is no sysprepfolder and in order for this to work, I am assuming you are having to do this in a Windows environment rather than where no opperating system is installed? I want to know how I can do this where I have already created my partitions and use the austoinstall.xml folder from my CD.
I have tried copying the autoinstall.xml file to the root directory of the Windows 7 DVD, but doesn't see it. I am running windows XP and installing Windows 7 Ulitmate oem versionk, if this helps.
Windows could not parse or process the unattended file for pass [specialize]. The setting specified in the answer file cannot be applied. The error was detected while processing settings for component [Microsoft-windows-shell-setup].
check the error logs at: C:\Windows\Panther\UnattendGC there should be to log files there that will help explain the reason for the error. I recently had to use these files to solve a similar problem....mine was an autologonenabled error
This video shows you exactly that... It will reboot and only ask for computer name. The difference between sysprep 1.2 and sysprep 2.0 (Vista/7) is tremendous... See my article on bohack.com I am in the midst of posting it right now. I detail all the steps to do exactly what you want. Also the links to the components is on there too. If you like it... visit my sponsors on the site... They keep me in business Jon
Nevermind :), odd though, I swore the w7 documentation said it was plaintext

Any way to enable the Administrator account or is that always disabled during sysprep?
