I'm seeing a lot of atheists bashing this video. Why? Here we have a Christian who is suggesting role models like George Coyne. If every Christian were just like George Coyne, I'd have no problem with Christianity! I might even be a Christian myself. George Coyne is so rational and scientific, I'm seeing Christians bashing the video for supporting him. This poor video is getting attacked from both sides here.
George Coyne has openly denied that Scriptures are Gods Word.
Its a book of poetry to him. He has also said that we as a Christians do not possess the ultimate revelation of truth thus denying the teachings of Christ.
If this is your influence than you are not a biblical Christian. I think the word describing you adequately is apostate. This can be changed if youll become born again.
For anyone unclear on whether VFX really did STEAL from Sick Kid's Hospital, you can see my accounts profile write-up for the proof.

The guy who posted this video, blindly thinks that because some poor deceived catholic and freemason jesuit foolishly makes God a liar that we are going to believe that poor deceived man, hellooooo? Not bashing any Christians but surely mocking us and God, i mean, the Anglican tolerate homosexuality, does it make it right? Did a Holy God change His mind on sin? Dawkins is more religious with his crusade than the pope!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Oh yes i can, say this, understanding that those who say that we are evolved animals are either deceived or willingly mocking God<s Word that says that we were created in His image and to have dominion over the animals, not that we evolved from them, we have a soul , a spirit and a conscience to tell us right from wrong and that law given by God<s Word that should be in 9our hearts by reading His Word and believing Him, not mere men who are mocking Him...
You unbelievers think that creationists who believe that crap are more intelligent because they agree with that nonsense but it does not make it right that they believe in the same unprovable theory, your religious zeale for this unproven theory is equally disturbing to me...and if you got nothing better to tell me than we evolved from slime, please feel free to not bother me, you are free to believe whatever you want but i don't believe in religion.
Now you're sprouting stupid statements. You're being ignorant and you know it. I don't wanna talk to someone who's just name-calling and making inane statements. And you still made no point.
How am I insulting you, calling you ignorant? It's not an insult if it's a fact. And since you want to act like an then I see no point in talking to you. Alrighty then, fuck you too.
As much as you may be able to point out intelligent Christians, this doesn't make Christianity any more true or believable. There is no reason I should become a believer based on your video. Why not study the bible more closely where it endorses slavery and think about why it does? Is the bible really a moral book?
You are arguing for something to which this video was never meant to address. I was trying to give VFX subscribers other role models that they can look up to, not to demonstrate the plausibility of Christianity or theism in general. I do not even have to demonstrate that premise as true, since the target audience already accepts it as true.
IF you would actually Study the Bible instead of attacking it.
You would know it was'nt slavery but a Bondservant.
If a man became poor he could sell his daughter as a bondservant, the man would recieve money or goods and his daughter would work for a specified period of time to work off her fathers debt !
In a time when there were No banks to borrow money from this practice was widespread and NOT Slavery !
The Bible must be read in context and 53dumey is right, even if the word slave was indeed used, the meaning of the word in those days wasn't anything like the forced slavery that the African Americans went thru but rather, they were delighted in being employed, fed, taken care of all their needs by their Masters, On the other hand today, you would think you are free in this modern society but we're all slaves to the banks, the games, the entertainment industry or even to disinformation.
Serge1965. Well put. I think a lot of people get the wrong idea because of what is written in Exodus 21. But it's not like they were real slaves. There were rules. Say you beat your slave severely "(the master) is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property." Sounds fair.
OK so you could buy them, keep their kids, beat them, and they were called slaves (or property), but....
I've forgotten now. How did they differ from REAL slaves?
They were more bondservant, there was a part of them that agreed with this since they either could not pay their debts or provide for their families, in the New Testament, the apostle Paul and others call themselves slaves of Christ, they were not forced, they loved God and obeyed Him as Lord and Master of their lives, they did suffer for their faith but they did with joy knowing that the rewards of the afterlife were greater
It would have been a rough deal for those who were blinded by their benevolent 'employers' then. "If a man hits a manservant or maidservant in the eye, he must let the servant go free to compensate for the eye." Exodus 21:26.
A double whammy! (pun intended). Not only is the poor bugger half blind, he/she gets no compensation and loses the security of board and food!
Call me crazy, but these just look like silly old tribal laws. They have as much moral authority as the anti-gay stuff .
Well, those are God's laws for the Mosaic covenant and i praise Jesus Christ that only He could fulfil that Law for us and that we are now under the Grace on this side of the cross which gives the cross its full meaning since none of us couyld ever be found righteous by obeying the whole of the law as Paul said would be a curse, it is better to come to the Lord by faith as indicated in Ephesians 2:8-9, and be justified by trusting Jesus Christ with all your heart
Good luck to you. You are searching and questioning. That's admirable.
But you only refer to the opinions of those that are agreeable to you.
Breaking free, and taking onboard what others have to say, rather than choosing to stick with those you find agreeable, will be your most adventurous step.
Question everything. Especially your questioning.
You have a 'faith', and you want to search for things that confirm it.
No matter how 'groovy' you think they are, all the religious people in this video contribute to the largest social problem we face after poverty and drugs...
They are content to allow religious organisations to have special socio-political privileges, platforms and power in our societies simply because of congruency with their personal beliefs. You won't find any of these people fighting for secularism and a fairer democracy, and that makes them part of the problem.
'The problem' I was referring to was religious corruption in our democracy. Religious people aren't simply passive about the problem; they actively perpetuate this corruption.
That is where your analogy fails. Being passive about panda protection is greatly different from supporting and perpetuating poaching.
Our governments and justice systems used to be a lot more racist. Do you think racists had anything to do with making it less so? No. They all actively opposed any improvement.
In the exact same way, all christians actively oppose the secularists who fight religious corruption of our democracies.
You think Francis Collins being appointed to head the HGP was a convenient coincidence for the Bush administration?
> I would like an example of how specifically these
> individuals did something else other than sit on the
> sidelines
At a minimum they actively CHOOSE not to do anything about the corruption. It's not like they are ignorant of the problem, or passive about religion. They've taken an active stance, just like the racists.
Your demand for a specific example of opposing secularism is unreasonable. I could just as well say 'give me an instance where any of them have supported secularism'.
Just like YOU (probably) actively CHOOSE not to do anything about panda bear poaching?
What you're saying is just semantics. I can literally replace your words with anything from not cleaning oil spills to not helping the people in Darfur, and accuse you of contributing to every problem through your inactivity, and yet you have no problem looking down on these individuals with contempt under the guise that they 'contribute' to 'the largest social problem we face after poverty and drugs'
If you so believe these seven individuals do harm to society by not doing anything about your percieved problem, then how about you take the beam out of your own eye, ye who allows panda poaching, oil spills, world poverty, environmental damage, and (almost) every other global problem.
I don't quite know how else to make this clear to you.
These seven people, and generally *any* moderate christians, have placed religion near the centre of their lives. It's important to them. They have taken up a strong stance. They are NOT neutral and passive, or 'on the sideline' as you suggest. When pushed, they will DEFEND the special privileges their religious organisations receive to the detriment of our democracy.
Your denial of this fact actually illustrates my entire point.
> I don't quite know how else to make this clear to you
Let me try again. For a society which wants to rid itself of institutional racism, you're suggesting that the white supremacist groups are somehow impartial and guilty only of passiveness. That they aren't part of the racism problem.
Whereas anyone with an ounce of sense would see that their resistance to change IS part of the racism problem.
Only non-racists and those not interested in the issue could be accused of mere passivity.
1) Every one of the Christians in this video at the very least supports - if not actively works towards - the removal of the religiously based speudoscience of ID from public schools.
2) Their religiosity was not up for question. The question was whether or not they actively contribute to the degregation of democracy.
3) You have no evidence any of these individuals would do anything you suggest.
4) How? Name an example of a privilege which corrupts the democratic process.
1) Of course moderates want to distance themselves from the fundamentalists! It helps their own religious delusion seem more 'normal' by comparison.
2) & 3) & 4) - the democratic ideal requires that all social pressure groups start on the same footing and make their case by evidenced, rational debate. This process is marred by religious organisations which have special socio-political privileges that no other group has.
1) I find it quite funny that someone representing only 15% of the population is criticizing someone from the other 85% of trying to be normal.
2) Self governance through elected representation is the key to an ideal democracy. It is within the right for groups of people to petition for special privileges. As long as it does not violate the inalieable rights of the outgroup or their electability to office, democracy does not preclude privileges because it is so decided by the people.
For example, in Canada, Aboriginal peoples have the privilege of recieving free university, and of not having to pay certain taxes. However, this in no way affects my eligibility to office, nor does it violate my rights. This was decided by the people through the elected body.
> only 15% of the population is criticizing someone
> from the other 85% of trying to be normal
It is contentious as to whether that 80% has read any of the bible or even thought properly about the bullshit they've been indoctrinated with during childhood. I would suggest that the %pop who genuinely believe is tiny.
> it is so decided by the people
The people did NOT decide to allow religious political corruption. It happened insidiously.
We were never talking about religious political corruption. We were talking about granting special privileges, and whether or not it compromises the democratic process. In any sort, you will always have corruption in government regardless of religiosity, sex, race, or ethnic background. What point are you making? You still have not demonstrated how these seven individuals have actively contributed to whatever shifting problem you seem to have now.
I was ALWAYS talking about political corruption. What kind of fucking privileges do you think I've been talking about?
Granted they've got tax exemption, financial non-disclosure, easy access to media, and are allowed to teach children complete shit without having to answer to a governing body. Maybe you thought I was talking about that?
Here's a question for you: How can a democracy serve all its citizens fairly and justly if one group has political privilege and advantage?
To suggest that democracy is dependant upon all citizens having equal socio-economic advantages and political privileges is not only contradictory to the successes that modern first world democracies enjoy today, but it would also be an unrealistic demand, as such equalities by every measure would be a Utopia no nation could ever attain.
I therefore ask you the better question:
How is it possible for a democracy to exist without a group having political privileges and advantages?
You've obviously got some weird view of the democratic ideal
To clarify, the democratic PROCESS should be fair and unbiased to all citizens, pressure groups and interest groups
However, religious organisations have corrupted the process so that it has heavy religious bias. Atheists and secularists are fighting to rid the system of this bias. Religionists are protecting this bias
I really can't make it clearer than that. Either you don't understand it, or you don't accept it (although I think it is undeniable, especially in the USA), and really there is nothing left to say about it.
Well, the other large corruption to our governmental institutions and democratic processes is by the 'super rich' and 'global corps'.
Now I ask you this - are the super rich part of the problem in perpetuating the corruption which enables them unfairly influence policy and laws for their own gain?
You would have to judge on an individual basis. Some may be corrupting the system while others may not.
Let me ask you a question:
If I were to introduce to your 7 CEO's of major companies who are in no demonstratable way responsible for corrupting the system, would you hold these CEO's responsible for corruption perpetrated by other CEO's since by choosing to be a CEO they have voluntarily chosen to associate themselves through status with those who do corrupt the system?
BTW, how come you always ask questions instead of making valid points, and never actually answer my questions?
Is it because you don't have a fucking leg to stand on? Is it because you know christians are guilty of everything I've stated, and you're just trying to play with semantics?
I'm attacking undemocratic religious privileges and you're defending them. That is exactly my accusation. The fact that you're pretending not to understand the issue is frankly bullshit.
If you country aquired a higher standard of living through exploiting weaker economies, would you be held guilty by your own standards by being a consumer within that country? What if half the shit in your home was made by 12 year old kids working for 40 cents an hour? What if half the groceries you buy used pesticides which destroyed neighbouring ecosystems? What if the electricity you use in your home is powered by a power plant which directly contributes to green house gases?
What if by watching ripped videos on YouTube and other media sharing websites you fuck over other consumers like myself who have to pay an increased price for the media product due to their loss of income? What if you smoke in a country that has socialized healthcare, and because your habits your citizens' tax dollars are spent removing a tumor from your lung? What if you smoke pot, thereby indirectly supporting drug cartells in S. America? What if any number of benefits in your country...
u enjoy on a day to day basis harms other people? What if you are fully aware that such benefits you enjoy have been 'insidiously instigated through corrupt means'? What have you done to rectify the growing gap between the poor and the rich? What have you done you done to make your home more eco-friendly? What have you done to protect the economies of weaker nations from exploitation?
Should I say fuck you, since you are just as guilty as the bastards who directly corrupted the system?
You never actually provided any substantation as to how any of these seven individuals contribute to your problem. What you did do is provide a statement saying that they are guilty because they enjoy the benefits others achieved by corrupt means, and that they haven't done anything about it. However, as I have shown, you too enjoy many things that rely upon corruption and exploitation. Your apathy and lack of activity this is testament to how fucktarded your entire rambling has been on my page.
This is very hypocritical coming from someone who believes they are guilty of inherited sins of ancient ancestors, yet you somehow don't believe you are guilty by association when it comes to passively accepting modern day corruption that you know is wrong!
Personally, I speak out about many of the things you've listed, and more importantly I don't passively just accept that 'that's the way things are'.
You don't feel guilty and ashamed of these things? You don't want it to change?
Don't try to turn this around. I did not say that I did not want things to change. What you asserted is that these Christians propagate the problem because they enjoy all the benefits but refuse to fix the situation. I asserted that you too enjoy many benefits that were aquired by means less then desirable.
Why are you even on this channel? Do you percieve me or these seven individuals as a threat? Why such the irrate dismissal of these individuals?
> I did not say that I did not want things to change
Exactly. No-one wants global corporations making biased policy and law outwith the normal system of democracy that everyone else is bound by. It is fair to say that anyone who is super rich, who benefits from the corruption and just accepts it even though they know it is wrong, is guilty; they are part of that problem because they certainly are not participating in the solution.
Now simply apply the same reasoning to religious corruption.
"Now simply apply the same reasoning to religious corruption. "
You're missing the point. You're fixating on these individuals because they enjoy certain privileges you don't even while you enjoy certain privileges other people don't. You claim that you work towards removing the corruption that is conveying you such privileges, just like these individuals all work by removing ID from the schools. They solve problems, you solve problems. You have no credible basis for criticism.
By not accepting that there is religious corruption in the US government, or at least accepting it as 'normal', you are proving my entire point - all christians are guilty of perpetuating religious corruption of the political system.
Moderates are worse than fundamentalists because they somehow think their delusion is more reasonable.
That's all I have to say - I've wasted far too much time on you.
I never said there wasn't any religious corruption. It's just that you're being very vague as to what specifically you're accusing these individuals of. All you've done is make blanket statements about Christians in general without really making a point. You instigated an argument with little apparent purpose on a video that holds nothing but a positive message.
Such is the behaviour of one who treats their irrate contempt for all Christians as synonymous with reason and rationality.
My democratic ideal is pragmatic. Human corruption and inequalities will inevitably exist in any society.
I have the feeling that your real objective is to remove all traces of religion from the public face. Without evidence, you accuse the 7 individuals within this video of contributing to whatever injustice there is in the democratic process.
No matter how 'groovy' you think they are, all the religious people in this video contribute to the largest social problem we face after poverty and drugs...
They are content to allow religious organisations to have special socio-political privileges, platforms and power in our societies simply because of congruency with their personal beliefs. You won't find any of these people fighting for secularism and a fairer democracy.
excellent video, this is exactly what I have been saying to people I know
just because you believe evolution is true does not mean you can not beieve in your god or a god, I'm an atheist, I don't hide the fact but I also don't rub it in my friends or family's faces and they respect me for that.
I don't think VFX is bad and not trust worthy because he is a christian, I think he would be the same if he were jewish or buddist or..., how many commandments has he broken?
Thank you, Sir. I have been bashed for being on DonExodus' channel BY a fellow Christian, as I am one, like DonExodus and was blatantly called a NonChristian because I wanted to know more about evolution. This is wrong. Thank you.
I never respected what VFX was doing. I thought he had mental problems. Unfortunately I only know of two of the scientists you respect. Francis S. Collins and Ken Miller. I extremely respect Collins because before him I hadn't heard of an actual practicing Christian that accepted evolution. Also I don't know if you know it or not but Francis Collins is now head of a foundation called Biologos. I think it's in Washington D.C. I loved Collins book. I'll buy it one day.
I have a theory about VenomFangX leaving. He panicked when he realized he could never explain how he blew the thousands of dollars from ripping off sick kids on meth and gay bath houses. Maybe he is frantically pacing to and fro in his parents house now with his daddies shotgun in his mouth, He probably blew his folks fucking heads off for deleting his channel and website. He will get one last wank off to his Bible whilst taking a lungful from a popper than BOOM!! Hello Jeebus!!
"The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them;"
(The righteous are those who believe in Jesus Christ) We can not be righteous in ourselves, for all have sinned. Only faith in Christ, & His Grace alone are we righteous. No one does good. Look at the next verse..
"..but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for He knows their day is coming." Psalm 37:13.....Seriously, the ppls who are messing with God's ppl have no idea what they are going to be in for.
So, you're saying Christians should be allowed to break as many Biblical commandments as they want without being taken to task for it? VFX has consistently spoken and acted with extreme dishonesty. You condemn the nasty atheists who have the nerve to speak out against dishonesty.
Sir, being confused or being correct about how old the earth is will not save your soul. I tell you this in Christian love brother. If it were so Jeus Your Lord would have told you so. Salvation in Jesus Christ through The Father is THE ONLE way if you are a Chrisitan.
I like William Lane Craig. His philosophy of God falls right into mainstream science.
I think many people, not only who approve of but also who oppose VFX make him a bigger deal than he needs to be. He's a YouTube user who stands firmly for what he believes whether a person agrees or not. Though I might not agree with all he says, for that alone I respect his style.
Personally I didn't support VFX, but when you do support a person it does not mean you place them on a pedestal.
Just saw a documentary about cults, it doesn't have to end up like this but I fear that VFX might end up with a cult. :(
Also, it might be that I'm heavily influenced of the documentary and think the worst of people that remind me of cult-leaders, this should be taken into consideration...
I doubt it, he is a poser just serving his own needs. He will be in jail soon enough. Hopefully he will be barred from electronic media as a condition of his parole.
I'm sure you are sincere, as I used to be, about belief in a god but I'm afraid you can't see the forest for the trees. I used to live in those trees. Belief in gods is superstition and superstition belongs in the dark ages. You can't find your way out of superstition til you allow yourself to ponder the question, "What if there is no god". You must have the courage to face that question with an open mind. Fear not. You will not regret it. I would never go back to believing in the supernatural.
I am not a Christian. I am an atheist... but I wanted to thank you for making this video. Very well done. I hope that Venomfangs sheep get to see it and take an active interest in the work of the seven scientists you outlined. Especially Ken Miller. The man is a genius.
Me too! Francis Collin's Arguments on the fine tuning of the Universe are unconvincing. Richard Dawkins got the better of him in a debate I read, through I can not recall where.
His influence I greatly admire. OMG I cant tell you! When I first saw the Lennox/Dawkins debate, that moment was PIVOTAL for me.
I actually attended a lecture of his at the C.S. Lewis society's annual banquet near where I live.
I got to meet him and I gave him a big kiss on his forehead. When he spoke the whole place was DEAD SILENT. 500 people, all quiet. His glasses hung from the end of his nose and he spoke with power like Winston Churchill. Incredible!
Usually when you see him in videos he has this jovial nature about him. Well spoken, but jovial.
But at this lecture, he was almost completely dead serious the whole time. He let his words HANG with this slow, deliberate Irish/English accent. It was powerful. EVERYONE stood up in a standing ovation when he was done.
I am still waiting on the video for it. They said they would notify us but they have to review it first.
Why are you protecting a little schizophrenic punk comparing him to great men? They deserve our admiration, he deserves nothing at all. He is the king of guy that these guys are fighting, the blind haters Bible freaks. He just wants to be famous and rich. Don't waist your breath on him. Guys like that wakes up a morning and say "Hey! I have a great idea! Lets make the inquisition, so we can torture, terrorize and kill in the name of God's love". Saving someone by killing him... Hu great idea.
I'm agnostic and now I'm interested in what these people have to say. Doesn't mean I'm going to change my spiritual point of view, though science is always something I look up to. I thinks it's less likely that any creationist will even go and read any of these people's works, or if they do, it will be with blind eyes and deaf ears, while being stubborn against their teachings. Though if one of them find inspiration in those people, that's one more open minded person.
Pastor George Murphy is a Lutheran theologian, pastor and professor who has a PHD in physics.. he has a great book called The Cosmos in Light of the Cross which I have just read.. The Issue with VFX and his ilk is that they choose to worship creation rather than the creator and this is why science is not compatible with their idols. And as much as your list are good thinking people I admire the most who gave everything.. such as Dietrich Bonhoeffer..
"The Issue with VFX and his ilk is that they choose to worship creation rather than the creator and this is why science is not compatible with their idols."
Nice job - unlikely to have much effect, but never hurts to try. VFX's supporters are supporting his ministry-which is "Kent Hovind redux" - Kent Hovind, like most conservative evangelicals and fundamentalists, considers catholics heretics. Kent Hovind considers all old earth creationists heretics. The Young Earthers have been battling other Christians over theological hairsplitting every bit as much as with evolutionists. The theology seems to be "There's godly virtue in arrogant stupidity".
I read Francis Collins' book the Language of God to see how he could make such a mistake and found he had adapted CS Lewis's mistake of thinking that morality cannot evolve. The fact that it is easy to understand morality from an evolutionary perspective and that there is a growing field on this topic undercuts his entire thesis.
I'm an athiest and I felt the meassege. I think it's time more theiss came out to promote science to people with no scientific back ground and believe in a religion. I understand why they find it hard to trust most of science
ahh well done. A positive, progressive message in this whole VFX mess. I'm an atheist and these are men I can admire. Time to put a damper on VFX's claim that atheists are just religious bigots who lead profane lives with no love in them.
As Shawn stated, Money is the root of all evil. So it was a bad idea from the start by Venomfangx to ask for donations, eventhought I admire his work, efforts and preaching, he should have none better that it is a huge challenge for all of us Christians to deliver the message freely, since freely we have received, freely we give + Matthew 6:24 says: No one can serve two masters. You cannot serve both God and Money.
I'm glad someone took the time to direct the people splintering off from VFX's support base to intelligent Christians who are not scam artists. I find atheists who say anyone who believes in God is stupid to be just as bad as religious people who say anyone who doesn't believe in God is evil. The goal should not be to take religion away from these people, but to inform them on science, which is exactly what Venomfang and Hovind pretend, most unscrupulously, that they're trying to do.
Excellent comment. I find UNFFwildcard to be one of the Christians here that I willing give time to. PCS and TAA are diametrically opposed and I personally don't watch either without a good reason...
The only one in your group of whom I'm not particularly fond of is Allister McGraph (spelling?). I listened to a radio debate with him and Hitchens and recall him being asked if he thought the dead rose with Jesus and walked about town. He replied (paraphrasing):
"As a historian I have to say no, but as a Christian I'd have to say yes".
There was a preist outside the Vatican that Bill Maher interviewed, I found him interesting but I doubt he has much scholarly work.
He did recently invoke the second law of thermodynamics against the big bang. If he'd stay away from physics and cosmology I'd feel a bit better about him.
I believe a guy like Francis Collins is needed in the scientific community for his work, especially the one of disproving scientific theories. We mustn't forget that the scientific method requires that we try and disprove them. I'm pretty sure that his work on the theory of the Big Bang has stimulated other scientists so to make their researches even more effective and go further in their discoveries. When reading the work of a scientist, it's important to also look out for the detractors.
I have no problem with Francis Collins in the scientific community- I own the Language of God and can appreciate his POV, but you might want to look him up. He did ZERO work on the Big Bang theory as that deals with cosmology and he is a geneticist and physician. I have nothing wrong with what he says from a biological standpoint- he's just not an authority of any kind on cosmology and using an argument that has been refuted countless times hurts his general credibility.
In that case... It's like asking the dishwasher repairman to paint your livingroom. You don't know what will be the result for his references only say he is a good dishwasher repairmam.

I think Alvin Plantinga and WLC should have merited a mention as well.

Not bashing any Christians but surely mocking us and God, i mean, the Anglican tolerate homosexuality, does it make it right? Did a Holy God change His mind on sin? Dawkins is more religious with his crusade than the pope!

As much as you may be able to point out intelligent Christians, this doesn't make Christianity any more true or believable. There is no reason I should become a believer based on your video. Why not study the bible more closely where it endorses slavery and think about why it does? Is the bible really a moral book?
ingodidoubt 2 years ago
You are arguing for something to which this video was never meant to address. I was trying to give VFX subscribers other role models that they can look up to, not to demonstrate the plausibility of Christianity or theism in general. I do not even have to demonstrate that premise as true, since the target audience already accepts it as true.
UNFFwildcard 2 years ago
IF you would actually Study the Bible instead of attacking it.
You would know it was'nt slavery but a Bondservant.
If a man became poor he could sell his daughter as a bondservant, the man would recieve money or goods and his daughter would work for a specified period of time to work off her fathers debt !
In a time when there were No banks to borrow money from this practice was widespread and NOT Slavery !
Learn the Bible !!!
53dumey 2 years ago
Does the bible use the word "Slaves" or not? What do you call it when one person owns another person as property?
ingodidoubt 2 years ago
The Bible must be read in context and 53dumey is right, even if the word slave was indeed used, the meaning of the word in those days wasn't anything like the forced slavery that the African Americans went thru but rather, they were delighted in being employed, fed, taken care of all their needs by their Masters, On the other hand today, you would think you are free in this modern society but we're all slaves to the banks, the games, the entertainment industry or even to disinformation.
Serge1965 2 years ago
Serge1965.
How did they differ from REAL slaves?
cristop5 2 years ago 2
They were more bondservant, there was a part of them that agreed with this since they either could not pay their debts or provide for their families, in the New Testament, the apostle Paul and others call themselves slaves of Christ, they were not forced, they loved God and obeyed Him as Lord and Master of their lives, they did suffer for their faith but they did with joy knowing that the rewards of the afterlife were greater
Serge1965 2 years ago
It would have been a rough deal for those who were blinded by their benevolent 'employers' then. "If a man hits a manservant or maidservant in the eye, he must let the servant go free to compensate for the eye." Exodus 21:26.
A double whammy! (pun intended). Not only is the poor bugger half blind, he/she gets no compensation and loses the security of board and food!
Call me crazy, but these just look like silly old tribal laws. They have as much moral authority as the anti-gay stuff .
Zilch.
cristop5 2 years ago 2
Well, those are God's laws for the Mosaic covenant and i praise Jesus Christ that only He could fulfil that Law for us and that we are now under the Grace on this side of the cross which gives the cross its full meaning since none of us couyld ever be found righteous by obeying the whole of the law as Paul said would be a curse, it is better to come to the Lord by faith as indicated in Ephesians 2:8-9, and be justified by trusting Jesus Christ with all your heart
Serge1965 2 years ago
Good luck to you. You are searching and questioning. That's admirable.
But you only refer to the opinions of those that are agreeable to you.
Breaking free, and taking onboard what others have to say, rather than choosing to stick with those you find agreeable, will be your most adventurous step.
Question everything. Especially your questioning.
You have a 'faith', and you want to search for things that confirm it.
But you show signs of snapping out of it.
Thinking is easier once you do.

ByeCruelWorld 2 years ago
"You won't find any of these people fighting for secularism and a fairer democracy, and that makes them part of the problem. "
If I don't fight for the preservation of panda bear populations in the orient, does that make me part of the poaching problem?
UNFFwildcard 2 years ago
> does that make me part of the poaching problem?
'The problem' I was referring to was religious corruption in our democracy. Religious people aren't simply passive about the problem; they actively perpetuate this corruption.
That is where your analogy fails. Being passive about panda protection is greatly different from supporting and perpetuating poaching.
ByeCruelWorld 2 years ago
Can you then please provide an example of how any of these seven individuals are actively perpetuating this problem?
UNFFwildcard 2 years ago
> how any of these seven individuals are actively
> perpetuating this problem?
Our governments and justice systems used to be a lot more racist. Do you think racists had anything to do with making it less so? No. They all actively opposed any improvement.
In the exact same way, all christians actively oppose the secularists who fight religious corruption of our democracies.
You think Francis Collins being appointed to head the HGP was a convenient coincidence for the Bush administration?
ByeCruelWorld 2 years ago
> I would like an example of how specifically these
> individuals did something else other than sit on the
> sidelines
At a minimum they actively CHOOSE not to do anything about the corruption. It's not like they are ignorant of the problem, or passive about religion. They've taken an active stance, just like the racists.
Your demand for a specific example of opposing secularism is unreasonable. I could just as well say 'give me an instance where any of them have supported secularism'.
ByeCruelWorld 2 years ago
Just like YOU (probably) actively CHOOSE not to do anything about panda bear poaching?
What you're saying is just semantics. I can literally replace your words with anything from not cleaning oil spills to not helping the people in Darfur, and accuse you of contributing to every problem through your inactivity, and yet you have no problem looking down on these individuals with contempt under the guise that they 'contribute' to 'the largest social problem we face after poverty and drugs'
UNFFwildcard 2 years ago
If you so believe these seven individuals do harm to society by not doing anything about your percieved problem, then how about you take the beam out of your own eye, ye who allows panda poaching, oil spills, world poverty, environmental damage, and (almost) every other global problem.
UNFFwildcard 2 years ago
I don't quite know how else to make this clear to you.
These seven people, and generally *any* moderate christians, have placed religion near the centre of their lives. It's important to them. They have taken up a strong stance. They are NOT neutral and passive, or 'on the sideline' as you suggest. When pushed, they will DEFEND the special privileges their religious organisations receive to the detriment of our democracy.
Your denial of this fact actually illustrates my entire point.
ByeCruelWorld 2 years ago
> I don't quite know how else to make this clear to you
Let me try again. For a society which wants to rid itself of institutional racism, you're suggesting that the white supremacist groups are somehow impartial and guilty only of passiveness. That they aren't part of the racism problem.
Whereas anyone with an ounce of sense would see that their resistance to change IS part of the racism problem.
Only non-racists and those not interested in the issue could be accused of mere passivity.
ByeCruelWorld 2 years ago
You have now make four statements to which you have not provided substantiation:
1) These individuals are content to allow the continuation of this 'problem'.
2) These individuals have 'taken an active stance, just like the racists'
WRT the continuation of this 'problem'
3) These individuals will work towards the detriment of the democracy when their special privileges are threatened.
4) That the defence of special privileges is detrimental to democracy.
UNFFwildcard 2 years ago
1) So you think moderate christians are joining up with atheists to fight for a secular system? Please show me some examples; I can't find any.
2) You think these people are passive and nonchalant about their religion? I would suggest they are famous DUE TO their strong religious stance.
3) Common sense that people will try to retain privileges, even though they know having is wrong.
4) The privileges themselves corrupt the democratic ideal; it follows that defence of them is detrimental.
ByeCruelWorld 2 years ago
1) Every one of the Christians in this video at the very least supports - if not actively works towards - the removal of the religiously based speudoscience of ID from public schools.
2) Their religiosity was not up for question. The question was whether or not they actively contribute to the degregation of democracy.
3) You have no evidence any of these individuals would do anything you suggest.
4) How? Name an example of a privilege which corrupts the democratic process.
UNFFwildcard 2 years ago
1) Of course moderates want to distance themselves from the fundamentalists! It helps their own religious delusion seem more 'normal' by comparison.
2) & 3) & 4) - the democratic ideal requires that all social pressure groups start on the same footing and make their case by evidenced, rational debate. This process is marred by religious organisations which have special socio-political privileges that no other group has.
ByeCruelWorld 2 years ago
1) I find it quite funny that someone representing only 15% of the population is criticizing someone from the other 85% of trying to be normal.
2) Self governance through elected representation is the key to an ideal democracy. It is within the right for groups of people to petition for special privileges. As long as it does not violate the inalieable rights of the outgroup or their electability to office, democracy does not preclude privileges because it is so decided by the people.
UNFFwildcard 2 years ago
For example, in Canada, Aboriginal peoples have the privilege of recieving free university, and of not having to pay certain taxes. However, this in no way affects my eligibility to office, nor does it violate my rights. This was decided by the people through the elected body.
UNFFwildcard 2 years ago
> I find it quite funny that someone representing
> only 15% of the population is criticizing someone
> from the other 85% of trying to be normal
It is contentious as to whether that 80% has read any of the bible or even thought properly about the bullshit they've been indoctrinated with during childhood. I would suggest that the %pop who genuinely believe is tiny.
> it is so decided by the people
The people did NOT decide to allow religious political corruption. It happened insidiously.
ByeCruelWorld 2 years ago
We were never talking about religious political corruption. We were talking about granting special privileges, and whether or not it compromises the democratic process. In any sort, you will always have corruption in government regardless of religiosity, sex, race, or ethnic background. What point are you making? You still have not demonstrated how these seven individuals have actively contributed to whatever shifting problem you seem to have now.
UNFFwildcard 2 years ago
I was ALWAYS talking about political corruption. What kind of fucking privileges do you think I've been talking about?
Granted they've got tax exemption, financial non-disclosure, easy access to media, and are allowed to teach children complete shit without having to answer to a governing body. Maybe you thought I was talking about that?
Here's a question for you: How can a democracy serve all its citizens fairly and justly if one group has political privilege and advantage?
ByeCruelWorld 2 years ago
To suggest that democracy is dependant upon all citizens having equal socio-economic advantages and political privileges is not only contradictory to the successes that modern first world democracies enjoy today, but it would also be an unrealistic demand, as such equalities by every measure would be a Utopia no nation could ever attain.
I therefore ask you the better question:
How is it possible for a democracy to exist without a group having political privileges and advantages?
UNFFwildcard 2 years ago
> How is it possible for a democracy to exist
> without a group having political privileges and
> advantages?
You've obviously got some weird view of the democratic ideal
To clarify, the democratic PROCESS should be fair and unbiased to all citizens, pressure groups and interest groups
However, religious organisations have corrupted the process so that it has heavy religious bias. Atheists and secularists are fighting to rid the system of this bias. Religionists are protecting this bias
ByeCruelWorld 2 years ago
> Religionists are protecting this bias
I really can't make it clearer than that. Either you don't understand it, or you don't accept it (although I think it is undeniable, especially in the USA), and really there is nothing left to say about it.
ByeCruelWorld 2 years ago
Even if what you say is true, you still have not identified in any way how any of these seven individuals are contributing to the problem.
UNFFwildcard 2 years ago
> My democratic ideal is pragmatic. Human
> corruption and inequalities will inevitably
> exist in any society
Well, the other large corruption to our governmental institutions and democratic processes is by the 'super rich' and 'global corps'.
Now I ask you this - are the super rich part of the problem in perpetuating the corruption which enables them unfairly influence policy and laws for their own gain?
ByeCruelWorld 2 years ago
You would have to judge on an individual basis. Some may be corrupting the system while others may not.
Let me ask you a question:
If I were to introduce to your 7 CEO's of major companies who are in no demonstratable way responsible for corrupting the system, would you hold these CEO's responsible for corruption perpetrated by other CEO's since by choosing to be a CEO they have voluntarily chosen to associate themselves through status with those who do corrupt the system?
UNFFwildcard 2 years ago
> If I were to introduce to your 7 CEO's of major
> companies who are in no demonstratable way
> responsible for corrupting the system
Do they enjoy the benefits of the corrupt system? (Yes)
Do they know that the laws and tax relief they enjoy have been insidiously instigated through corrupt means? (Yes)
Have they done anything to rectify the situation? (No)
Then FUCK THEM. They are just as guilty as the bastards who directly corrupted the system.
ByeCruelWorld 2 years ago
BTW, how come you always ask questions instead of making valid points, and never actually answer my questions?
Is it because you don't have a fucking leg to stand on? Is it because you know christians are guilty of everything I've stated, and you're just trying to play with semantics?
I'm attacking undemocratic religious privileges and you're defending them. That is exactly my accusation. The fact that you're pretending not to understand the issue is frankly bullshit.
ByeCruelWorld 2 years ago
If you country aquired a higher standard of living through exploiting weaker economies, would you be held guilty by your own standards by being a consumer within that country? What if half the shit in your home was made by 12 year old kids working for 40 cents an hour? What if half the groceries you buy used pesticides which destroyed neighbouring ecosystems? What if the electricity you use in your home is powered by a power plant which directly contributes to green house gases?
UNFFwildcard 2 years ago
What if by watching ripped videos on YouTube and other media sharing websites you fuck over other consumers like myself who have to pay an increased price for the media product due to their loss of income? What if you smoke in a country that has socialized healthcare, and because your habits your citizens' tax dollars are spent removing a tumor from your lung? What if you smoke pot, thereby indirectly supporting drug cartells in S. America? What if any number of benefits in your country...
UNFFwildcard 2 years ago
u enjoy on a day to day basis harms other people? What if you are fully aware that such benefits you enjoy have been 'insidiously instigated through corrupt means'? What have you done to rectify the growing gap between the poor and the rich? What have you done you done to make your home more eco-friendly? What have you done to protect the economies of weaker nations from exploitation?
Should I say fuck you, since you are just as guilty as the bastards who directly corrupted the system?
UNFFwildcard 2 years ago
You never actually provided any substantation as to how any of these seven individuals contribute to your problem. What you did do is provide a statement saying that they are guilty because they enjoy the benefits others achieved by corrupt means, and that they haven't done anything about it. However, as I have shown, you too enjoy many things that rely upon corruption and exploitation. Your apathy and lack of activity this is testament to how fucktarded your entire rambling has been on my page.
UNFFwildcard 2 years ago
This is very hypocritical coming from someone who believes they are guilty of inherited sins of ancient ancestors, yet you somehow don't believe you are guilty by association when it comes to passively accepting modern day corruption that you know is wrong!
Personally, I speak out about many of the things you've listed, and more importantly I don't passively just accept that 'that's the way things are'.
You don't feel guilty and ashamed of these things? You don't want it to change?
ByeCruelWorld 2 years ago
Don't try to turn this around. I did not say that I did not want things to change. What you asserted is that these Christians propagate the problem because they enjoy all the benefits but refuse to fix the situation. I asserted that you too enjoy many benefits that were aquired by means less then desirable.
Why are you even on this channel? Do you percieve me or these seven individuals as a threat? Why such the irrate dismissal of these individuals?
UNFFwildcard 2 years ago
> I did not say that I did not want things to change
Exactly. No-one wants global corporations making biased policy and law outwith the normal system of democracy that everyone else is bound by. It is fair to say that anyone who is super rich, who benefits from the corruption and just accepts it even though they know it is wrong, is guilty; they are part of that problem because they certainly are not participating in the solution.
Now simply apply the same reasoning to religious corruption.
ByeCruelWorld 2 years ago
"Now simply apply the same reasoning to religious corruption. "
You're missing the point. You're fixating on these individuals because they enjoy certain privileges you don't even while you enjoy certain privileges other people don't. You claim that you work towards removing the corruption that is conveying you such privileges, just like these individuals all work by removing ID from the schools. They solve problems, you solve problems. You have no credible basis for criticism.
UNFFwildcard 2 years ago
By not accepting that there is religious corruption in the US government, or at least accepting it as 'normal', you are proving my entire point - all christians are guilty of perpetuating religious corruption of the political system.
Moderates are worse than fundamentalists because they somehow think their delusion is more reasonable.
That's all I have to say - I've wasted far too much time on you.
ByeCruelWorld 2 years ago
I never said there wasn't any religious corruption. It's just that you're being very vague as to what specifically you're accusing these individuals of. All you've done is make blanket statements about Christians in general without really making a point. You instigated an argument with little apparent purpose on a video that holds nothing but a positive message.
Such is the behaviour of one who treats their irrate contempt for all Christians as synonymous with reason and rationality.
Bye.

Am I also guilty of propagating this injustice?

I like William Lane Craig. His philosophy of God falls right into mainstream science.
I think many people, not only who approve of but also who oppose VFX make him a bigger deal than he needs to be. He's a YouTube user who stands firmly for what he believes whether a person agrees or not. Though I might not agree with all he says, for that alone I respect his style.

Incredible!
vbfl920 2 years ago
Usually when you see him in videos he has this jovial nature about him. Well spoken, but jovial.
But at this lecture, he was almost completely dead serious the whole time. He let his words HANG with this slow, deliberate Irish/English accent. It was powerful. EVERYONE stood up in a standing ovation when he was done.
I am still waiting on the video for it. They said they would notify us but they have to review it first.

I thinks it's less likely that any creationist will even go and read any of these people's works, or if they do, it will be with blind eyes and deaf ears, while being stubborn against their teachings. Though if one of them find inspiration in those people, that's one more open minded person.

I absolutely support the sentiment of this video and conversely can see no reason why those taken with VFX - so to speak - cannot, as well. Kudos.

ahh well done.

PCS and TAA are diametrically opposed and I personally don't watch either without a good reason...

..which goes to show that you don't have to abandon all logic and reason to be a believer.
Well done.

Francis Collins gives me headaches...
/facepalm
