  • low framerate at low-res 8-bit its not a 060 fault, its AGA slow architecture with archaic bitplane modes , with modern chunky pixel mode on RTG cards with no 3D acceleration same cpu can run minimum 15FPS not 3-4, but shitty commodore never care enything about their short-therm profits.

  • Play it on PC, fools!

  • @PINGASFIST Yes yes, but that's entirely missing the point, and there's no need to be insulting.

  • the game rendering engine using self modifying code, so the fix was doing some cache clears and so on, unfortunately that makes it a low slower.

yeah it was, we put a lot of work into it.

  • Not suprising , since i never made one, never had access to an 060, the fixes i made were mostly newer compiler and some bug fixes.

  • Ah, it could be it was the 040 fix that I was trying, since that was the option usually recommended to 060 users when trying updates and fixes. I don't remember to be honest... I recorded this nearly a year ago.

It's such a shame DID/Ocean pulled the plug on this.

  • The 060 isn't helping.

  • No, it definitely isn't.

The version of the executable that's supposed to make use of the 060s features is broken and crashes my system.

    Pity.

  • TFX runs much faster on my 060.

  • It's funny, I remember reading a review in a magazine saying the game is "silky smooth on A4000" :D This is 68060 and, maaan, it is so smooth, isn't it? :) I love Amiga, but some A fanboys just didn't/don't have a clue how proper 3D looks like...

  • @koshman42 Its smooth for that time, considering that most 3D games at the time running at 2 to 5 FPS... this was like 6 to 10, thats why is smooth... you have to tel you opinion considering the difficult and the reality on that time... is like saying that a word processor on those days was smooth today you see a movie of a word processor review date 1997 and you will not say that is smooth.. got my point of view?

  • @tommyjones1978 you are so right. I even remember flight sims on the commodore 64. nobody ever complained about frame rate back then. now, play them again or watch a video of such a game and you'll be shocked! but it will still be fun :)

such a shame not many 'people' (see below) seem to understand the true meaning of playing this game. in 2011. on a machine developed in 1992.

  • Can anyone remember the game called something like F-19 Stealth fighter or project F-19 it was on the spectrum and Micropose made it. I googled it and it came up with a purple cover but the one I'm thinking of had a grey cover ...

  • yes I remember and still have it but yes the box is purple cover so not sure about the grey cover your thinking of.

  • hi :-)

The game in the purple box was when it was re-packaged when everyone found out what the stealth really looked liked and the name became F19 Stealth Fighter . Before that it came in a grey box with an artist impression on the cover... I'm sure of it.. it's driving me mad not knowing proper :-)

  • oh ok I didnt know that. Have you tried the English Amiga Board? make a post on there and see if anyone knows more? if your not registered then I dont mind making a post or you could register yourself. Lots of discussions on there and not only about Amiga stuff but retro gaming in general.

  • im going to message you a link as I cant do it through here. it has a few different boxes for it. :o)

  • yes i have F-19 Stealth fighter. i have the atari st version.

it came in a purple box. the amiga version was the same.

  • Shame on CU Amiga magazine for distributing this unfinished and seriously broken port.

  • Nah..."Thanks!" to CU Amiga. This was on their final issue's cover CD and it was still great to see this in some form.

  • i used to play a lot on PC , and i played it very well, i finished a lot of missions, and i knew many of the keys by heart, i enjoyed many hours behind my tactical figher. i was a pilot in wwII btw.

  • This game is completely broken in the Amiga, a pity since it was a lot of fun in a PC/DOS box. I run the FPU version which is slightly faster, but anyway, better show off the A1200/060 with games that used it correctly, like Breathless, or demos like TBL Starstruck.

  • AMIGA SUCKS!

  • how many fps? 0,5 lol ! amiga sucxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • No, Amiga does not suck.

It was just a very rough and unfinished conversion. The version that made use of the advanced cpu in my Amiga doesn't work, so I was using the standard 68000 version... no hyperthreading, no fpu, etc.

The game you see is effectively broken, and doesn't reflect the ability of the Amiga at all.

  • plays like wow plays on my old 900mhz P3

    Keep the vids coming.

  • How much more modified could you make your Amiga? I mean, compared to the stock version?

I'd love to see it up close, like in one of your hardware reviews. I never had a chane to use one when they were out.

  • There're a few things I could do, like add a PPC accelerator, or even better, a PPC and 68060 accelerator, to get the best of both world. There's also room for a 24bit gfx card, and several Zorro II slots free for assorted cards and whatnot.

Back when I used the Amiga as my primary computer, I'd have added all of those, if I'd had the money, but these days, I don't need them, and just use it for games.

I may do a video about the Amiga, and this one in particular. I just need to find the time.

  • Lol at the moment it shows what the Amiga can't do

  • There're quite a few options to speed things up. Remove gourad shading and texture mapping, reduce the number of colours, reduce the draw distance, etc.

I doubt I'll be playing it much though, so just made it as pretty as possible for the video.

  • I'd reduce the detail a little given the dire framerate can be improved this way.Tab key i think

  • This must be one of the few amiga games I havenever playied. Looks good i will have to check it out. Itmust have come out aruond 94/95 then ?

  • Somewhere around that time, yeah, or maybe 96.
