  • Sing girl! Just a random fellow mt who wanted to remind myself how the song went (I used to sing it) and got a wonderful surprise! Hope ur still out there hittin it!

  • Don't listen to the haters. I just was flipping through the bway memories and I think you did a great job with this song.

  • 1:40 literally caused me physical pain. That was a seriously ugly sound.

  • Fantastic performance of one of my favorite MT songs. =D

  • AMAZING.

  • Nina Sturtz is nothing short of amazing.

  • Guys!!

This is not nasal! This is called twang, which is necessary for a good belt. And I think Nina is a great belter :)

  • you = trina. perfect.

  • Great performance.

    (The song is from "Falsettoland".)

  • Falsettoland....which is one of a trilogy of musicals called "Falsettos". learn your stuff.

  • I wasn't meaning to correct the description so much as add to it.

If anyone tries to find a recording or sheet music for the song, they can find it much more quickly if they know which part of the trilogy it's from.

  • Actually, do your research even more before you get snotty, Elphaba 332. The correct title for the "Falsettos Trilogy" is The Marvin Songs.

  • You have an absolutely beautiful voice :]

  • wut u smokin tmac?

  • yo yo fast forward to the middle 1:35,......the life riff......fierce and nasally,@

  • hey saw you in les mis at the ark rep! and laura one of my best friends is living in your apt. but i just stumbled across this recording. wonderful healthy belt! love your voice!

  • i really pity everyone else who ever tries to sing this song. it now belongs to nina!

  • you're (sorry i'm anal)

  • I think you have an amazing belt! however, i don't think you truely sing this as if it were trina's character singing...you understand the "feel" of the song, i guess. but the heaviness of the words...idk i think some of your facial expressions were off with the words. but you have an amazing voice! but what is musical theatre but the cool way to tell a story? a voice is something your somewhat born with but acting comes through life experience and empathy.

  • nina is such a talent!

    love her

  • im singing this song for school too. Love it

  • wow... its all from the throat. :-/

  • that's of course not to say this young woman is without talent. She obviously is very talented. I'm just not sure this song was the best choice for her vocal talents.

  • I feel, in all honesty, that this was not coming from the character of Trina at all. I don't feel like I was watching anything more than a recital... instead an amazing, emotionally-charged piece of musical theatre. I guess what I'm trying to say was that this was a college-aged student singing a song instead of the character singing it.

  • :)

You make a lovely sounding Trinna.

  • You have a gorgeous voice...i'm doing this song for a Song Rep class next week, so doin research and this is great material! Thanks!

  • Any suggestions for voice teacher's? Vocal Methods?

  • I Loveeeee This!

  • UGH. NINA. U LuPWNED This Song!

  • wow, you're fantastic.

thanks! you've convinced me to use this as an audition song!

  • Thanks for doing such a wonderful job on this song!

And the change from Martin to "my husband" was really helpful. I admit I borrowed it for my own performance. :)

  • she is really good. She has a unique tone. Love it.

  • nina sturtz is damn goood.

  • Obviously, she's not choking if she can still sing/breathe, for that matter. I think the gesture was a wise choice to show her emotion.

I thought the performance was beautiful.

  • I love her! I can't tell if it is her, the arrangement, or pianist but something isn't right haha. I adore her placement though.

  • that was great.

  • nina sturtz is my hero!

  • ok like i think shes really amazing. but not right for this song no offense, cause i know the show very well Falsettos not Elegies, (i was in it) and her voice is too loud for it , but its really good. just a different song.

  • I couldn't disagree with you more. Her voice is perfect for this song. To volume was where this song needs to be because of the power driving it. Without the power this girl has I would not want to see this song done. She has points where she is soft and loud. Overall this is a role she should be looking into in my opinion

  • I don't think it's the volume of her voice, but the placement of her voice when she belts is much too high and nasal. It's almost like she's trying to mix head and chest, but she's coming up a little short. Her vocal quality is quite good - she does a terrific job, and she clearly understands the nuances of the piece and follows her character throughline...very well done for a recital piece - but based on this video, I don't think she's "right" vocally for the role of Trina in Falsettos.

  • I see what you mean but I still disagree. But this is one of those things based on preference from person to person. If I were directing the show I would cast her and if you were you would look at her from a different role. But we both agree she's amazing and that's all that really matters, right? Lol

  • You're right. She's quite good.

  • Elegies is a review of William Finn songs.

  • i want to be this girl.

  • That was really amazing.

  • I have watched this video so many times... I can officially say that I'm in love with Nina Sturtz... get it girl. You're so unbelievable... WOW. WOW.

  • i adore all of finn's stuff. so humanistic.

  • That's from Falsettos, not Elegies

    Great song

  • amazing...got chills... get to nyc now!

  • what a solid performance! great Job!

  • Yes, it is from Falsettoland and not Elegies. But it is all William Finn :)

  • she is pretty amazing

  • omg so amazing! she must be so amazing in theatre

  • isnt this from falsetto's, not eligies?

  • I love this musical, and I wish it was performed more often. Performance very good, and vocally better then the original cast recording. Good control, makes the emotional world of teh song come alive. Well done!

  • Riffing is just fun.

and what the fuck. this girl's a fierce actress.

  • i know. i saw this and i was like holy shit shes incredible. she'll go so far im so excited.

  • Wow. This is amazing. My love for UrInTown keeps growing and growing.

  • Nice voice...But the I don't get the riffing...There was no purpose to it...The acting can be stronger...emotion shift was no clear...It's not clear

  • great job! great voice!

  • omwow. she is INCREDIBLE.

  • So nice as always!

  • Fabulous job! Loved it!

  • Nina's amazing

  • Nice save on messing up the words.

  • Where did she mess up the words? The change of "Marvin" to "my husband" sounds too deliberate to be a mess up, plus it takes the song out of its Falsetto context.

    Amazing job!

  • Just that. You don't know where she messed up, so nice job once again.

  • Oh I see that she got her verses mixed up, I didn't even notice before! Excellent job.

  • My sister is a superstar :)

  • seriously. Doesn't she rock. This song is perfect for Nina.

  • i love this song

  • nina...damn girl...you coming home?

  • nina is fab and flawless
