My father told me that the city wanted to relocate the market to eleventh street back in the 40's, the bussinesses refused, truth is, that section of South Philly had become so run down prior to 1900, the Italians and Jews were the only people forced to live on the East side of Broad, and more importantly, unlike the Jewish community, the Italians stayed en mass, now every one wants to dictate to the us how we should live, The Mexicans will be the final nail.

In another 10 years there will be no more italian neighborhoods in america thanks to these peices of shit. There will only be italians livin in suburban towns.
@CrazySicily New immigrants may have replaced a lot of the Italians who have moved to Jersey, but honestly it's the yuppies I can't deal with. I grew up on Washington Avenue and all the Mexicans and Asians ever did was open businesses and make the neighborhood nicer. All the fuckin yuppies do is walk around and think they're hot shit and make our property taxes go up. We have more in common with the Mexicans and the Asians then we do with the middle class anglos buying our families' old houses.

since you are a tourist, and didnt find it tourist friendly, what did you expect. it's a neighborhood, as in people live here and work here and walk or ride bikes around.. it's not disneyland for christ sakes...
