@danzinnyman Yes, Darth Maul was more of a lightsaber warrior than a master of the Force. Sort of how Darth Vader was the fighter, and the Emporer used his force abilities more. And forget Starkiller, he is an overexagerated character from a game that is trying to ruin the basis of Star Wars.
Lucas needed darth maul to kill qui gon so obi wan would give his word to train anakin. Lucas needed dooku for anakin to kill him and take a step towards the dark side. he also needed darth sideous to be the master of all three. Asajj ventress and general grievous are awesome, but they were not needed so much in the movies.
@Vykkdraygo713 Dooku actually is one of my all time fav characters you need him in the story. Maul is not a talker, although they could have made him one. The story line needed Dooku because of the clones, or have you not played the game starwars bounty hunter. If not its a sick game and you need to play through it.
Darth maul should have killed quigon and escaped near the end of the movie. In the second one he could also kill anakins mom, thus giving him an actual reason for revenge instead of that silly tusken rape scene.
This scene was the only scene in the entire movie that felt like star wars. Everything else was horrid, and yes even the final lightsaber fight was nothing special. Felt like watching a gymnastics class.
I think the prequels were better than the originals, at least in some points. The originals have me pissed off from Lukes naivity and cluelessness, so pious it hurts. The old ones also have this feeling that "everything has already happened" to me. Nice to see Yoda and Obi in their young days instead etc.
Lucas should make another SW movie, a preprequel about the origin of the two orders.
I can't believe 9 people actually thumbed this comment up without actually reading it. These are prequels, not remakes. Man, prequel-haters are stupid.
Not trying to be a smartass here but I was unaware that this was an argument, lol. Only morons argue over the internet, and imbeciles argue over Youtube. I'll debate, like I am now with LordTyrannus, or I'll engage in conversation but arguing is largely pointless.
It's an arguement like none other. You may think arguing about hypothetical situations is lame, but it actually proves useful in the real world. A lot of real world arguments are supported by hypothetical reasoning. What better way to hone those skills than to argue about something trivial? I bet these "geeks" are better at forming an argument and defending their position than you are.
I dont think I enjoyed this movie as much as the others cause Anikin was a bit whiney and jar jar, while funny, was just a bit to much. However these scenes made up for it.
lol i think everyone hates on dooku cuz he's old as a boot n jus not a likable character...Maul however got all the kool points cuz of his unique lightsaber and style annnd red n blaack is a sickass combination...n 2 the guy tht said anakin used the dark side in ep. 3 against dooku do u mean he jus tapped into his anger? cuz i didnt c ne lightning flying around
Well if you read the books or play some of the video games, you'll see there is a lot of powerplay going on in the force that can't be seen. As for using the darkside Anikin was channeling his hate and the force together in what is know as Dark Rage. Luke used it as well against Vader. It makes them faster and stronger. How else would Luke over power Vader who is mostly machine with human flesh? Maul is a good fighter but he seems to lack in brains. Where as Dooku uses his wits more.
Dooku actually has more personality than Maul. He brought class to the Sith as well as a brand new kind of arrogance not seen before: the noble kind.
Dooku was a Jedi who could actually duel with Yoda and not get whooped in 10 seconds, so he was respected. With the power of the Dark Side added to that, he could actually fight Yoda for quite some time, though he could never beat him.
Anakin used his anger to fuel his strikes. They hit harder and faster.
i read about that. they had a thing were the duel was longer i wanna see if lucasarts will make a rerelease and release some of the deleted content to episode 1, 4, 5, and 6.
Dooku is more powerful than Maul in that he is the better Sith, but Maul was better physically. If they fought, Dooku would win. Maul could not tie Yoda in Force mastery as Dooku did. Dooku has Makashi and can defeat Grievous going his hardest, which is 4 blades instead of 2. Dooku also has about 70 years of experience to fall back on.
Not discrediting Maul, he could probably withstand Dooku's Force Lightning since he took it from the Nightsister's and felt little pain, but Dooku wins, imo.
Maybe but if Darth Maul had grown older he would've literally handed Dooku's ass right to him, Darth Maul was only like 20 in Episode I so he could've become the best.
Maul was 22 when he fought Jinn and Kenobi. and yes, he was arrogant, like most Sith are, and it cost him his life. Maul was proficient with his lightsaber, but had little Force mastery, which would likely make him lost against Dooku. Dooku also has a lightsaber form that is very effective against other lightsaber duelists, along with 70 years of experience as a Jedi Master to fall back on, something Maul isn't too familiar with, along with his Sith training from Sidious.
Maul must of had some force power because during the fight in episode I he uses the force to throw an object at a button that opened up a door. I guess maybe Dooku was more powerful but do you think if Maul lived to be his age he would've been just as powerful? I think so.
Maul had mediocre Force mastery. Obi-Wan showed more mastery than him, by using Force jump impressively and tapped into his anger without succumbing to the Dark Side.
If Maul had reached 70 years, he probably would have been quite an impressive Sith Lord, but I would still bet on Dooku defeating him. Don't forget, Dooku has 70 years of training with Yoda and a few years of training with Sidious, so he knows the best of both sides.
its so sad to think that little boy right there turns into Darth Vader and trys to kill Obi Wan. but Darth Maul is the coolest Star Wars villain. and Liam Neeson(Qui Gon Jin) is fucking awsome. he has tons of good movies. Taken, Kingdom of Heaven, Chronicles of Narnia(voice of Aslan), Phantom Menace.
Dooku was the "political idealist" ,more of a defensive swordsmen not really a badass like Maul. But,Dooku did rally thousands of systems together against the Republic which played an important role in the annihilation of democracy and the Jedi.Thats why I like Dooku
Different lightsabre forms are better against different things, winning a lightsabre duel doesnt really prove which is better as all forms have strength and weakness, Dooku would struggle against maul plainly because maul uses brute force.
Dooku's Makashi is refined to the point that it can take powerful strikes from lightsabers. He dueled against Grievous constantly with Grievous going all out (4 arms), and Grievous has enough strength to put a huge dent in his fighter with one punch, as seen in his fight against Kenobi in Episode 3.
Obviously brute force with a lightsaber, or even four lightsabers, won't be enough to beat Dooku. Add Dooku's superior mastery of the Force and his experience and Maul is finished, in my opinion.
Not entirely true, and Grievous didnt feel the force, basically became more machine then alive, he had strength and brute force yes, but he still was no jedi, and was the best weilder of lightsabers outside of the jedi, but still not even close to being the better or stronger then the best of the jedi and sith. Anakin beat Dooku, using a later form that is about brute force, which is an example of his failing with the form, though was prob more arrogance.
Grievous out-dueled Shaak Ti a few times, and she's a great lightsaber duelist. He also beat 4 Masters on Hypori, though they were a bit tired. Yes, Grievous was not among the elite lightsaber duelists, but he could hold his own against some of the best masters of the Order.
Dooku was supposed to bait Skywalker to the Dark Side, not defeat him in combat. As Anakin drew on his anger, Dooku went easy on him both because of arrogance and because he wanted Anakin to think his anger made him better.
Dooku prob would win, my point is, it wouldnt be easy, and dooku wasn't just baiting him to the dark side, in all fight scenes with dooku, he tries to break his oponents spirit.
Of course it wouldn't be easy, Maul killed Qui-Gon Jinn while battling Obi-Wan at the same time.
Dooku didn't try to break Yoda's spirit because he knew yoda was too attached to the light. He did try to make Yoda believe Dooku was stronger because of his new Dark powers, but that was a mind game, not an attempt to break Yoda's spirit.
As I said previously to another user, Dooku was going easy on Anakin and was trying to make him use the Dark side so he could become a Sith Lord. anakin did use the Dark Side but Dooku did not know it would fuel Anakin that much. So Dooku's toying around cost him his hands and his life.
Now had Dooku been trying to kill Anakin, he would have done so pretty easily. Dooku stopped Kenobi with a Force Choke and then flung him and knocked him out, beating one of the best Jedi ever in mere seconds.
Anakin and Obiwan initially toyed with Dooku as well. Only later in the fight they suddenly raised their game, causing Dooku to realise that he actually had to fight for his life. Obiwans defensive style just doesnt work well against the elegant form II which picks it apart.
If Dooku could have killed Anakin easily, than it would not have made any sense for Palpatine to prefer Anakin over Dooku, as this was Anakins test, and if the duel wasnt a real test than it makes no sense.
Yes, they toyed around while he toyed around. And then both sides got serious.
Sidious went with Anakin because down the road Anakin would grow more powerful than Dooku, and even stronger than himself at his peak. Sidious also knew Dooku's arrogance would be his downfall since he knew Dooku would act cocky after he took out Kenobi. In short, Sidious read Dooku like a book and was completely right in all of his predictions.
Anakin was already a Jedi Knight in his physical prime though, when it came to dueling. Yes he has alot of potential, but to say Dooku could have easily beaten him, seems as off base as saying Palpatine toyed with Windu throught their duel. The sith always have that violent test when one is challenging the other for a position of power. The rule of the strongest. If it wasnt going to be a real test for anakin, than what was the point of Dooku interfering to start with?
Sideous might as well of just killed Dooku himself, Imo, Sideous knew Anakin was stronger, but in true sith tradition, he has to defeat the current apprentice in a trial by arms.
If the trial by arms is fake than it flies in the face of sith tradition, as well as making the fight pointless. Its there so Anakin proves himself worthy of taking Dookus place by the Sith Masters side.
Palps did toy with Windu. Look at how slow he moves in comparison to his fight with Yoda, more specifically when they are on the rising platform.
Dooku was a man who could stir Anakin's hatred. Like Sidious said, Anakin wanted revenge for Dooku cutting off his hand. Dooku also just KO'd Kenobi, which made Anakin angrier. Add in how Dooku was the man responsible for his best friend's kidnapping and it all falls into place. Dooku was THE man who could make Anakin use the Dark side.
Judging by movie fight choreography isnt the best way to do things, as they consciously wanted every fight to look different. However it looks like Palpatine is going all out to me, with his snarls and his growls. Mace and Yoda have completely different styles in the film, so he's of course going to look different countering them.
Dooku wasnt told by Sideous to pretend or anything. Dooku just thought he'd be clever by his own accord and toy with them, but he stops when Anakin reaches 100%,
I'm saying that Anakin cut off Dooku's hand because he pushed Dooku beyond his limits , not because the sith "wasnt trying". Because if he wasnt trying by that point in the fight, than Anakin would have still lost.
The Sith obviously are not invincible, or else Maul would still be alive. Now it is fairly obvious that while Windu would stand a decent chance against Sidious, the Sith Lord was not going all out against him. Again, just compare his speed to the Yoda fight and you'll see he is moving much slower.
Dooku did not ever try his very best against Anakin. Dooku could hold his own against Yoda for a while. If Anakin could best Dooku trying his best, Anakin would be able to fight against Yoda, right?
Obviously Anakin could not hold his own against Yoda at his current age. He just didn't have enough of his potential harnessed yet.
Palpatine snarls in both fights, moreso with Yoda since he's going all out then. Notice how he utilizes the Force during the Yoda fight, something he didn't even try to do with Mace, and Palps is clearly more powerful Force-wise than Windu.
The only thing Sidious instructed Dooku to do in the fight was KO Kenobi to make Anakin angry.
Vaapad = Mace uses the Emperor's own powers against him Making Emperors advantage in the force irrelevant.
Judging on fight choreography is a baad. idea. As its not even accurate to how the lightsaber forms are described. Samuel L Jackson was fifty something and couldnt go as fast as a CGI model. Thats all there is too it. You're reading too deeply into it.
Sideous didnt instruct Dooku to do anything. You just completely made that up. Its not supported by any canon.
Sideous got captured, The jedi went to rescue him, Dooku sensed them onboard the ship, and confronted them. Initially for the sport "I've been looking forward to this" , than he gets serious. Thats all thats supported by the canon. Anything else is conspiracy theory,
And yes, Anakin can hold his own against Yoda or the Emperor. Dooku and Yoda can beat mace, but only in sparring sessions, when he does not use Vaapad.
I agree with everything except for the Dooku getting serious part, which is slightly off. He only gets serious with Kenobi once they are on the top of the stairs, when he holds Obi-Wan in a Force Choke and kicks Anakin, then KO's Kenobi. Once the rafter fell on Kenobi, Dooku got arrogant again. This is evidenced by Dooku's taunting of Anakin when they clash. you know the whole "I sense great fear..." moment.
Anakin is skilled, but I doubt he could kill 3 council members with his current level of skill, let alone kill them in seconds. How can Anakin hold his own against a man who could pull off the latter?
Sam didn't do his Mace's fight scenes, and neither did Christopher or Ian for their characters of Dooku/Sidious. Ian and Lee are both older than Jackson anyway, so that wouldn't make much sense even if they did do the moves themselves.
Sidious and Dooku laid out a plan of the battle. Sidious knew Dooku would lose but Dooku figured he would win. Dooku's page on Wookiepedia says, "Expecting his Master to intervene and save his life as Sidious had promised to do in the case of defeat, Dooku instead was shocked to see the Dark Lord goad Skywalker to deliver the deathblow."
Theres nothing in that plan that says Dooku was playing around the entire time. In the last bout , when Anakin cut his hands off, it does not make sense for him to lose his hands if he had the duel well in hand and was toying with Anakin even then. He would of just countered all of Anakins blows with no problem. Instead , and what would actually make sense, is that they both fight to their best by that point, and Dooku loses his arms when Anakin dueling rises above his limit.
Except Darth Vader did kill aLOT of Jedi in the Temple Purge. He fought and killed one of the lightsaber teachers with one arm while fighting another with his other arm in the temple security video. Sideous killed 3 masters yes, but two of them stood around and did nothing. Its not like Sideous displayed some masterful skill to outfight them, they just sucked balls.
Sam did do alot of the Mace fight scene actually. It was Ian who was mostly replaced by a stunt double/CGI double.
Yes, and none of those Jedi were Council members. Cin Drallig was easily his best kill. And the Masters weren't just standing there doing nothing, Sidious just reacted so quickly that he caught them off-guard and killed them.
I said Dooku was playing around, got serious for a bit and took out Kenobi, then reverted back to playing around.
drbrunch, Wookiepedia actually has decent moderators. If you'd actually look at the page, you would see everything checks out.
Dooku simply countered a blow from Obi-Wan, kicked Anakin away, launched Kenobi across the room and then knocked him out by dropping the rafter on him. In just a few seconds. I think if Dooku can do that to one of the best in the Order, he could probably handle Anakin. But that's just me.
Oh, I'm aware of that. It's their affinity with the Force that lands them on the Council. Mundi's bravery, Windu's skill, Yoda's wisdom, Kenobi's charisma; all of these traits can put someone on the council.
"I think if Dooku can do that to one of the best in the Order, he could probably handle Anakin. But that's just me. "
What's against you is the fact that he simply DIDN'T handle Anakin. A Sith can't get taken by surprise like that if he was ahead of the game because they can see things before they happen.
Yeah, he might, but Maul was a plothole. Considering that obiwan completely leaps over him and maul just goes durr and looks up and lets Obiwan slice him, despite having the "high ground". Lucas wrote himself into a corner and needed that cop out to get out again.
I dont think you get what I'm talking about. He had already suceeded in pissing off Anakin during the very last bout, So he could have ended the fight, and Vader would have tapped into his powers.
As that was the most he could have realistically expected in terms of tempting Anakin, unless he planned to have his arms cut off, be at Anakins mercy, and have him fall further by executing him? I think not.
I, and many others, feel the way Maul died was close to heresy. The man kills one of the most prominent Jedi of the Order and nearly beats his Padawan yet he couldn't counter such a move? Terrible. At least Lucas put it to good use in Ep. 3 when Anakin tries to do the move and Kenobi catches him in midair like Maul should have done.
Yeah, he succeeded in making Anakin angry and forced him to use the Dark Side. I agree, lol. Like I said Dooku was expecting to win but got arrogant... again, lol.
Well, the thing with Qui Gon Jinn is that he was backed into a corner with very little room to maneuver out of. His lightsaber style (Ataru) is very acrobatic and demands space because it focuses in on smooth movement and precise striking. Yoda has the same style, but is small enough to fight in tight spaces.
I do agree though that Maul died pathetically. He had a whole 5 seconds to react to Obi Wan, yet did nothing.
See, that's the thing. Qui-Gon was so adept in Ataru that he could overcome the small space weakness of Ataru, just like Dooku overcame the Makashi drawback of being weak against multiple lightsabers and powerful strikes. I'm not saying he retained his full power when he was in a small space but it clearly was not such a problem that it would considerably weaken Jinn.
Dooku didn't really overcome the drawback very well. As you can see in both fights he quickly tried to seperate Obi Wan and Anakin using the force. Also he didn't really overcome the powerful strikes very well either seeing as how he lost his hands :P
Yes, Qui Gon's lightsaber style also demands a lot from his force reserves making him more fatigued as the fight prolongs. I don't think that was the sole reason he lost. It could be a combination of the tight space and his fatigue.
Remember, he trained with Grievous and had the General go all out, meaning all 4 lightsabers. So obviously multiple blades isn't an issue. And Grievous hits hard when he slashes as he is a powerhouse. I chalk up Dooku losing to his arrogance, not lack of skill to face Anakin tapping into the Dark side, but whatever :P
Let's face it, Maul was excellent with a blade. In this battle Maul wears him out in a few minutes. Naboo had Jinn + Kenobi in an open space at first, and Maul still nearly won.
I'm not sure I posted my response to this. In any case I will repost it:
Makashi is meant as far as I know to fight single targets and is weakest against multiple targets and blaster fire. I don't think the amount of lightsabers one person has matters. GG does hit hard, but it was training not a real fight and Dooku still has the force to draw upon.
Maul is excellent, there is no doubt about that. If you are refering to the Tatooine fight Qui Gon was running all the way from Mos Eisley to the Outskirts and then had to engage Darth Maul. I would be fatigued too Maul was catiously backtracking in Naboo constantly pushing the fight in new directions and seperating the duo when he had the chance. He fought well, but obviously he knew he couldn't stand a chance against a barrage of hits from two targets for long so he made it easier for himself.
Jinn made it across the desert to Mos Eisley without breaking a sweat so I don't think the run did much.
Yes, multiple targets meaning multiple lightsabers, lol. Remember in Episode 2 when Anakin had 2 lightsabers? He was able to push Dooku back a bit since Makashi was meant more for single combat with one weapon, though Dooku remedied the problem pretty quickly.
They were on camels and took their time. The distance between Mos Eisley and the outskirts is far!
No, multiple targets means more than one person, not more than one lightsaber. The reason anakin pushed him back is because he took an aggressive stance against dooku and dooku defended against it. People who engage in duels constantly switch between defense and offense regardless of how many swords they have.
He remedied the problem because Anakin wasn't trained in duel handed fighting.
Far but Jedi normally have physical training that would make an Olympic athlete who takes steroids daily humble. Look when the camera closes in on Jinn at 0:02. Not a drop of sweat and not out of breath, though Anakin, who is used to the desert and is obviously younger, exclaimed he was tired.
Both saber and wielder are targets. Dooku proved that by going for Anakin's second saber in Ep. 2 and by disarming Grievous in their sparring match in Clone Wars.
Notice how Dooku backs up against Anakin with two sabers in Episode 2 and how he backs up against Kenobi and Anakin in Episode 3. But when he fights Yoda, he does not back up. And I would say Yoda had some aggression in his fight :P
The site is explicit. When it says targets it means more than one person. As quoted from Wookiepedia:
"Another drawback was that Makashi was most potent when used against a single opponent, and therefore was reduced in strength when fighting groups of adversaries."
You also forgot the fight against Assaj Ventress in the Clone Wars. He manhandled her and she has 2 sabers.
He backs up against Anakin and Obi Wan because they are "multiple targets" and his style is weak against that.
I already explained why he backs away from Anakin in episode 2..
Anakin went on the attack and so Dooku defended against it. It has nothing to do with the quantity of lightsabers. Dooku backs up against Anakin with one lightsaber in the duel on the Invisible Hand are you to conclude he is weak against single sabers too?
Honestly? The screen is blurry and he delivers the line too quickly to tell if he is fatigued or not. Those 2 seconds are not enough to determine his condition. Anakin is a young boy with plenty of energy and stamina. If he is tired I can only imagine how a 70 year old man like Qui Gon feels.
The huge difference was that Maul wasn't on guard against Obi Wan jumping over him. ON the other hand, Obi-Wan fully expected Anakin to attempt the leap and thus he was on guard against it. In Episode 1 Maul was arrogant, in Episode 3 Obi-Wan was cautious.
Btw, being on the council doesnt mean youre necessarily any good at duelling. Theres such a thing as being put on the council for wisdom and skills at diplomacy.
Apparently there may be three Star Wars Origin films set to be released in the 2020 decade: the first Star Wars Origins: Obi-Wan (2020) focussing on how Obi-Wan became a Jedi and from the tough time he spent training Anakin, fighting the Clone Wars, and staying exiled on the planet Tattooine.
No its not the same, i know that you tohught so. I would to first time. But they do the same move, at the start and at the end, but not the same clip.
Dooku was a waste of screen time compared to Maul. Maul was a fantastic villain, a figure of raw power. Would have been a been a better adversary to defeat for Anakin as he was the man who killed Qui-Gon Jinn. I always thought Dooku/Tyranus was boring, just an old Jedi made to look too powerful in Episode II and then weak in III.
this scene is going to be extended in the re release of The Phantom Menace (2012) cant wait for that as it will be better fight of Darth Maul jumping onto the ship then getting kicked off!!!!

It's an arguement like none other. You may think arguing about hypothetical situations is lame, but it actually proves useful in the real world. A lot of real world arguments are supported by hypothetical reasoning. What better way to hone those skills than to argue about something trivial? I bet these "geeks" are better at forming an argument and defending their position than you are.

shaochiavang 2 years ago

ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago 6
Dookus lightsabre form is good against the early forms, but its weak against oponents with brute force.
Bralor 2 years ago
Maybe but if Darth Maul had grown older he would've literally handed Dooku's ass right to him, Darth Maul was only like 20 in Episode I so he could've become the best.
vfgjhj 2 years ago
Maul was 22 when he fought Jinn and Kenobi. and yes, he was arrogant, like most Sith are, and it cost him his life. Maul was proficient with his lightsaber, but had little Force mastery, which would likely make him lost against Dooku. Dooku also has a lightsaber form that is very effective against other lightsaber duelists, along with 70 years of experience as a Jedi Master to fall back on, something Maul isn't too familiar with, along with his Sith training from Sidious.
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago 2
Maul must of had some force power because during the fight in episode I he uses the force to throw an object at a button that opened up a door. I guess maybe Dooku was more powerful but do you think if Maul lived to be his age he would've been just as powerful? I think so.
vfgjhj 2 years ago
Maul had mediocre Force mastery. Obi-Wan showed more mastery than him, by using Force jump impressively and tapped into his anger without succumbing to the Dark Side.
If Maul had reached 70 years, he probably would have been quite an impressive Sith Lord, but I would still bet on Dooku defeating him. Don't forget, Dooku has 70 years of training with Yoda and a few years of training with Sidious, so he knows the best of both sides.

brandtbo 2 years ago
Well dude.
but if maul was so powerfull, Why dooku can beat easily anakin and kenobi.
When Dooku face kenobi. Dooku win easily.
But when Maul fight with oby wan, Maul doesnt win so easily.
And in fact. Dooku was a older master of jedi council turned into the dark side. He reach even more power than before.
Thats why in my opinion Dooku is more powerfull xD.
But Maul style is still so great.
fearlesslandrew 2 years ago
Different lightsabre forms are better against different things, winning a lightsabre duel doesnt really prove which is better as all forms have strength and weakness, Dooku would struggle against maul plainly because maul uses brute force.
Bralor 2 years ago
Dooku's Makashi is refined to the point that it can take powerful strikes from lightsabers. He dueled against Grievous constantly with Grievous going all out (4 arms), and Grievous has enough strength to put a huge dent in his fighter with one punch, as seen in his fight against Kenobi in Episode 3.
Obviously brute force with a lightsaber, or even four lightsabers, won't be enough to beat Dooku. Add Dooku's superior mastery of the Force and his experience and Maul is finished, in my opinion.
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago
Not entirely true, and Grievous didnt feel the force, basically became more machine then alive, he had strength and brute force yes, but he still was no jedi, and was the best weilder of lightsabers outside of the jedi, but still not even close to being the better or stronger then the best of the jedi and sith. Anakin beat Dooku, using a later form that is about brute force, which is an example of his failing with the form, though was prob more arrogance.
Bralor 2 years ago
Grievous out-dueled Shaak Ti a few times, and she's a great lightsaber duelist. He also beat 4 Masters on Hypori, though they were a bit tired. Yes, Grievous was not among the elite lightsaber duelists, but he could hold his own against some of the best masters of the Order.
Dooku was supposed to bait Skywalker to the Dark Side, not defeat him in combat. As Anakin drew on his anger, Dooku went easy on him both because of arrogance and because he wanted Anakin to think his anger made him better.
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago
Dooku prob would win, my point is, it wouldnt be easy, and dooku wasn't just baiting him to the dark side, in all fight scenes with dooku, he tries to break his oponents spirit.
Bralor 2 years ago
Of course it wouldn't be easy, Maul killed Qui-Gon Jinn while battling Obi-Wan at the same time.
Dooku didn't try to break Yoda's spirit because he knew yoda was too attached to the light. He did try to make Yoda believe Dooku was stronger because of his new Dark powers, but that was a mind game, not an attempt to break Yoda's spirit.
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago
Maul had Obi-Wan beat, the only reason Maul died was because of himself and his cockiness. Dooku got his ass handed to him by Anakin in Episode III.
vfgjhj 2 years ago
As I said previously to another user, Dooku was going easy on Anakin and was trying to make him use the Dark side so he could become a Sith Lord. anakin did use the Dark Side but Dooku did not know it would fuel Anakin that much. So Dooku's toying around cost him his hands and his life.
Now had Dooku been trying to kill Anakin, he would have done so pretty easily. Dooku stopped Kenobi with a Force Choke and then flung him and knocked him out, beating one of the best Jedi ever in mere seconds.
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago 5
Anakin and Obiwan initially toyed with Dooku as well. Only later in the fight they suddenly raised their game, causing Dooku to realise that he actually had to fight for his life. Obiwans defensive style just doesnt work well against the elegant form II which picks it apart.
If Dooku could have killed Anakin easily, than it would not have made any sense for Palpatine to prefer Anakin over Dooku, as this was Anakins test, and if the duel wasnt a real test than it makes no sense.
Ayatron34 2 years ago
Yes, they toyed around while he toyed around. And then both sides got serious.
Sidious went with Anakin because down the road Anakin would grow more powerful than Dooku, and even stronger than himself at his peak. Sidious also knew Dooku's arrogance would be his downfall since he knew Dooku would act cocky after he took out Kenobi. In short, Sidious read Dooku like a book and was completely right in all of his predictions.
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago
Anakin was already a Jedi Knight in his physical prime though, when it came to dueling. Yes he has alot of potential, but to say Dooku could have easily beaten him, seems as off base as saying Palpatine toyed with Windu throught their duel. The sith always have that violent test when one is challenging the other for a position of power. The rule of the strongest. If it wasnt going to be a real test for anakin, than what was the point of Dooku interfering to start with?
Ayatron34 2 years ago
Sideous might as well of just killed Dooku himself, Imo, Sideous knew Anakin was stronger, but in true sith tradition, he has to defeat the current apprentice in a trial by arms.
If the trial by arms is fake than it flies in the face of sith tradition, as well as making the fight pointless. Its there so Anakin proves himself worthy of taking Dookus place by the Sith Masters side.
Ayatron34 2 years ago
Palps did toy with Windu. Look at how slow he moves in comparison to his fight with Yoda, more specifically when they are on the rising platform.
Dooku was a man who could stir Anakin's hatred. Like Sidious said, Anakin wanted revenge for Dooku cutting off his hand. Dooku also just KO'd Kenobi, which made Anakin angrier. Add in how Dooku was the man responsible for his best friend's kidnapping and it all falls into place. Dooku was THE man who could make Anakin use the Dark side.
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago 2
Judging by movie fight choreography isnt the best way to do things, as they consciously wanted every fight to look different. However it looks like Palpatine is going all out to me, with his snarls and his growls. Mace and Yoda have completely different styles in the film, so he's of course going to look different countering them.
Dooku wasnt told by Sideous to pretend or anything. Dooku just thought he'd be clever by his own accord and toy with them, but he stops when Anakin reaches 100%,
Ayatron34 2 years ago
I'm saying that Anakin cut off Dooku's hand because he pushed Dooku beyond his limits , not because the sith "wasnt trying". Because if he wasnt trying by that point in the fight, than Anakin would have still lost.
Ayatron34 2 years ago
I don't like this "sith are invincible" mentality that some fans have. That if a jedi beats them, "the sith must have faked it". No.
Ayatron34 2 years ago
The Sith obviously are not invincible, or else Maul would still be alive. Now it is fairly obvious that while Windu would stand a decent chance against Sidious, the Sith Lord was not going all out against him. Again, just compare his speed to the Yoda fight and you'll see he is moving much slower.
Dooku did not ever try his very best against Anakin. Dooku could hold his own against Yoda for a while. If Anakin could best Dooku trying his best, Anakin would be able to fight against Yoda, right?
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago 2
Obviously Anakin could not hold his own against Yoda at his current age. He just didn't have enough of his potential harnessed yet.
Palpatine snarls in both fights, moreso with Yoda since he's going all out then. Notice how he utilizes the Force during the Yoda fight, something he didn't even try to do with Mace, and Palps is clearly more powerful Force-wise than Windu.
The only thing Sidious instructed Dooku to do in the fight was KO Kenobi to make Anakin angry.
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago 2
Vaapad = Mace uses the Emperor's own powers against him Making Emperors advantage in the force irrelevant.
Judging on fight choreography is a baad. idea. As its not even accurate to how the lightsaber forms are described. Samuel L Jackson was fifty something and couldnt go as fast as a CGI model. Thats all there is too it. You're reading too deeply into it.
Sideous didnt instruct Dooku to do anything. You just completely made that up. Its not supported by any canon.
Ayatron34 2 years ago
Sideous got captured, The jedi went to rescue him, Dooku sensed them onboard the ship, and confronted them. Initially for the sport "I've been looking forward to this" , than he gets serious. Thats all thats supported by the canon. Anything else is conspiracy theory,
And yes, Anakin can hold his own against Yoda or the Emperor. Dooku and Yoda can beat mace, but only in sparring sessions, when he does not use Vaapad.
Ayatron34 2 years ago
I agree with everything except for the Dooku getting serious part, which is slightly off. He only gets serious with Kenobi once they are on the top of the stairs, when he holds Obi-Wan in a Force Choke and kicks Anakin, then KO's Kenobi. Once the rafter fell on Kenobi, Dooku got arrogant again. This is evidenced by Dooku's taunting of Anakin when they clash. you know the whole "I sense great fear..." moment.
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago 2
Anakin is skilled, but I doubt he could kill 3 council members with his current level of skill, let alone kill them in seconds. How can Anakin hold his own against a man who could pull off the latter?
Sam didn't do his Mace's fight scenes, and neither did Christopher or Ian for their characters of Dooku/Sidious. Ian and Lee are both older than Jackson anyway, so that wouldn't make much sense even if they did do the moves themselves.
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago 2
Sidious and Dooku laid out a plan of the battle. Sidious knew Dooku would lose but Dooku figured he would win. Dooku's page on Wookiepedia says, "Expecting his Master to intervene and save his life as Sidious had promised to do in the case of defeat, Dooku instead was shocked to see the Dark Lord goad Skywalker to deliver the deathblow."
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago 2
Theres nothing in that plan that says Dooku was playing around the entire time. In the last bout , when Anakin cut his hands off, it does not make sense for him to lose his hands if he had the duel well in hand and was toying with Anakin even then. He would of just countered all of Anakins blows with no problem. Instead , and what would actually make sense, is that they both fight to their best by that point, and Dooku loses his arms when Anakin dueling rises above his limit.
Ayatron34 2 years ago
Wikipedia is dubious at best, Wookiepedia...even more so. If you believe that claptrap I got a bridge to sell ya
drbrunch 2 years ago
Except Darth Vader did kill aLOT of Jedi in the Temple Purge. He fought and killed one of the lightsaber teachers with one arm while fighting another with his other arm in the temple security video. Sideous killed 3 masters yes, but two of them stood around and did nothing. Its not like Sideous displayed some masterful skill to outfight them, they just sucked balls.
Sam did do alot of the Mace fight scene actually. It was Ian who was mostly replaced by a stunt double/CGI double.
Ayatron34 2 years ago
Yes, and none of those Jedi were Council members. Cin Drallig was easily his best kill. And the Masters weren't just standing there doing nothing, Sidious just reacted so quickly that he caught them off-guard and killed them.
I said Dooku was playing around, got serious for a bit and took out Kenobi, then reverted back to playing around.
drbrunch, Wookiepedia actually has decent moderators. If you'd actually look at the page, you would see everything checks out.
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago 2
"I said Dooku was playing around, got serious for a bit and took out Kenobi, then reverted back to playing around. "
That's really speculative, but it seems like we're just arguing in circles now, so if that's your opinion, then w/e, I'll leave you with that.
Ayatron34 2 years ago
Dooku simply countered a blow from Obi-Wan, kicked Anakin away, launched Kenobi across the room and then knocked him out by dropping the rafter on him. In just a few seconds. I think if Dooku can do that to one of the best in the Order, he could probably handle Anakin. But that's just me.
Oh, I'm aware of that. It's their affinity with the Force that lands them on the Council. Mundi's bravery, Windu's skill, Yoda's wisdom, Kenobi's charisma; all of these traits can put someone on the council.
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago 2
"I think if Dooku can do that to one of the best in the Order, he could probably handle Anakin. But that's just me. "
What's against you is the fact that he simply DIDN'T handle Anakin. A Sith can't get taken by surprise like that if he was ahead of the game because they can see things before they happen.
Ayatron34 2 years ago
I know he didn't just manhandle Anakin the same way because it would be kind of hard for him to tap into his inner dark powers when he's knocked out.
A Sith can't be taken by surprise when he's ahead? Maul would say otherwise.
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago 2
Yeah, he might, but Maul was a plothole. Considering that obiwan completely leaps over him and maul just goes durr and looks up and lets Obiwan slice him, despite having the "high ground". Lucas wrote himself into a corner and needed that cop out to get out again.
I dont think you get what I'm talking about. He had already suceeded in pissing off Anakin during the very last bout, So he could have ended the fight, and Vader would have tapped into his powers.
Ayatron34 2 years ago
As that was the most he could have realistically expected in terms of tempting Anakin, unless he planned to have his arms cut off, be at Anakins mercy, and have him fall further by executing him? I think not.
Ayatron34 2 years ago
I, and many others, feel the way Maul died was close to heresy. The man kills one of the most prominent Jedi of the Order and nearly beats his Padawan yet he couldn't counter such a move? Terrible. At least Lucas put it to good use in Ep. 3 when Anakin tries to do the move and Kenobi catches him in midair like Maul should have done.
Yeah, he succeeded in making Anakin angry and forced him to use the Dark Side. I agree, lol. Like I said Dooku was expecting to win but got arrogant... again, lol.
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago
Well, the thing with Qui Gon Jinn is that he was backed into a corner with very little room to maneuver out of. His lightsaber style (Ataru) is very acrobatic and demands space because it focuses in on smooth movement and precise striking. Yoda has the same style, but is small enough to fight in tight spaces.
I do agree though that Maul died pathetically. He had a whole 5 seconds to react to Obi Wan, yet did nothing.
Read up on Ataru in Wookiepedia.
LordTyrannus 2 years ago
See, that's the thing. Qui-Gon was so adept in Ataru that he could overcome the small space weakness of Ataru, just like Dooku overcame the Makashi drawback of being weak against multiple lightsabers and powerful strikes. I'm not saying he retained his full power when he was in a small space but it clearly was not such a problem that it would considerably weaken Jinn.
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago 2
Dooku didn't really overcome the drawback very well. As you can see in both fights he quickly tried to seperate Obi Wan and Anakin using the force. Also he didn't really overcome the powerful strikes very well either seeing as how he lost his hands :P
Yes, Qui Gon's lightsaber style also demands a lot from his force reserves making him more fatigued as the fight prolongs. I don't think that was the sole reason he lost. It could be a combination of the tight space and his fatigue.
LordTyrannus 2 years ago
Remember, he trained with Grievous and had the General go all out, meaning all 4 lightsabers. So obviously multiple blades isn't an issue. And Grievous hits hard when he slashes as he is a powerhouse. I chalk up Dooku losing to his arrogance, not lack of skill to face Anakin tapping into the Dark side, but whatever :P
Let's face it, Maul was excellent with a blade. In this battle Maul wears him out in a few minutes. Naboo had Jinn + Kenobi in an open space at first, and Maul still nearly won.
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago 2
I'm not sure I posted my response to this. In any case I will repost it:
Makashi is meant as far as I know to fight single targets and is weakest against multiple targets and blaster fire. I don't think the amount of lightsabers one person has matters. GG does hit hard, but it was training not a real fight and Dooku still has the force to draw upon.
LordTyrannus 2 years ago
Maul is excellent, there is no doubt about that. If you are refering to the Tatooine fight Qui Gon was running all the way from Mos Eisley to the Outskirts and then had to engage Darth Maul. I would be fatigued too Maul was catiously backtracking in Naboo constantly pushing the fight in new directions and seperating the duo when he had the chance. He fought well, but obviously he knew he couldn't stand a chance against a barrage of hits from two targets for long so he made it easier for himself.
LordTyrannus 2 years ago
Jinn made it across the desert to Mos Eisley without breaking a sweat so I don't think the run did much.
Yes, multiple targets meaning multiple lightsabers, lol. Remember in Episode 2 when Anakin had 2 lightsabers? He was able to push Dooku back a bit since Makashi was meant more for single combat with one weapon, though Dooku remedied the problem pretty quickly.
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago 2
They were on camels and took their time. The distance between Mos Eisley and the outskirts is far!
No, multiple targets means more than one person, not more than one lightsaber. The reason anakin pushed him back is because he took an aggressive stance against dooku and dooku defended against it. People who engage in duels constantly switch between defense and offense regardless of how many swords they have.
He remedied the problem because Anakin wasn't trained in duel handed fighting.
LordTyrannus 2 years ago
Far but Jedi normally have physical training that would make an Olympic athlete who takes steroids daily humble. Look when the camera closes in on Jinn at 0:02. Not a drop of sweat and not out of breath, though Anakin, who is used to the desert and is obviously younger, exclaimed he was tired.
Both saber and wielder are targets. Dooku proved that by going for Anakin's second saber in Ep. 2 and by disarming Grievous in their sparring match in Clone Wars.
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago 3
Continued from first post.
Notice how Dooku backs up against Anakin with two sabers in Episode 2 and how he backs up against Kenobi and Anakin in Episode 3. But when he fights Yoda, he does not back up. And I would say Yoda had some aggression in his fight :P
ThePurpleSpartan 2 years ago
The site is explicit. When it says targets it means more than one person. As quoted from Wookiepedia:
"Another drawback was that Makashi was most potent when used against a single opponent, and therefore was reduced in strength when fighting groups of adversaries."
You also forgot the fight against Assaj Ventress in the Clone Wars. He manhandled her and she has 2 sabers.
He backs up against Anakin and Obi Wan because they are "multiple targets" and his style is weak against that.
LordTyrannus 2 years ago

MAUL: It's over, Kenobi. I have the high ground!
OBI-WAN: Sorry, Maul. George Lucas hasn't thought of that yet. (Jumps over Maul, slices him in half.)

Darth Maul was the coolest...too bad he got such a sucky ending...would have been cool if he faced off against Yoda or Mace...
Axemen123 2 years ago 2
Maul probably wouldn't have fared very well against Yoda- just a guess.
And Dooku should be called Tyrannus, which is his Sith name. :)

Well in this fight Qui Gon Jinn wasnt expecting a Sith to give him such a tough fight and therefore got tired in the end he was prepared to fight him

Ya I thinks that's the reason why that block is the only thing i remembered from the Qui gon vs maul fight on tatooine. It happened twice.

Yes, we will add that to the billion problems in the prequels and why the old trilogy is better.

he fought for 30 secs and he was so tired
but in the 2nd round he didnt get tired
