Your accent doesn't seem way off from how most people in California sound. The only differences I can see is the "A" sounds and the "O"....for the most part it seemed the same to me..
Haha oh my god you sound exactly like me! I'm in college in DC and I didn't even realize I had an accent until I left Cleveland. I've actually had people not understand what I'm saying because apparently Clevelanders slur a bunch of their consonants. Even this guy from Youngstown makes fun of my accent! Everyone makes fun of me/cringes when I say "mom" or "pop" or "oh my god." Every time I say "mom" someone screeches "mAAAAAAm!" Cleveland gets no love. Keep repping for us!
Also, I keep getting told that I say "room" and "broom" strangely... I'm told that I say "rum" instead of "room".... and "brum" instead of "broom"..... Is this part of the Cleveland accent as well?? lol
@ic3sk83r haha when reading the first part of ur comment I said "room" and "broom" out loud to see how I say it (cuz I'm from Cleve) and then I read the rest of ur comment about how it really sounded and realized I was actually saying "rum" and "brum" too, maybe it is a Cleveland thing.
My whole life I lived in Cleveland and never realized that there was a "Cleveland accent" but after being in Columbus, OH for 3 years, I've been told by so many people that I have a Cleveland accent. When I tried to look up "Cleveland accent" I got nothing! So, Thank you for making these videos!!!!
The way you said off the first time is more accurate for the Cleve accent.
I was born and raised in Cleveland and we made fun of people who said off like ahhf. Just a observation. I actually miss the accent. I live in Atlanta now and there is a myriad of southern( and Northern for that matter) accents down here.
I'm also from Cleveland and people down here in Miami notice the way I talk. You're being too conscious of your accent and over emphasizing the vowels, so I don't think this gives a totally accurate video of how people talk. I'm not sure, though. I've been trying to find totally natural blocks of speech from Cleveland speaker, but I think it works best when people have no idea they're being listened to with their accent int mind.
OH I get it ! We Do have an accent ... when I say my last name is BELL they think i'm saying BEAL ...
