@1980RockGirl When/where does Jesus say that he is God in the flesh? It is possible to interpret such thing from the bible we have today. But it's much more easily possible to interpret the bible to conclude that Jesus is not God. Jesus never directly claims to be God, not in the bible. In fact he says:
I am of myself nothing. I do as my father commands me. (that doesn't sound like God)
He prays! often alone. Why would God pray? Who would God pray to? And why would he often pray alone?

some of the people who wrote the gospels afterwards (authors unknown in most cases) may have believed he was!! the council of nicea definitely believed it. The translators of the bible, and the council of trent believed it. So the things you read today are heavily influenced by those beliefs, and it takes hours and hours of research to be able to take the gold out of the mud.

I have read many accounts by CHRISTIANS that this passage does not refer to Jesus being God. It is simply misunderstood. O God, at the time, was a figure of speech. It is like me telling you "OH MY GOD!!!" (I'm sorry if you consider that a swear word, but it is said quite often). I will forward you a link by a Christian scholar who will tell you that passage has nothing to do with Jesus being God, and it is only a figure of speech.

See, the truth is, Jesus is much more commonly referred to as "Servant of God" Than "Son of God" (only very few times... and I doubt it was meant to be taken literally as begotten son!!! Since Jesus is once referred to as son of man, and once all people are referred to as sons of God!)
now Jesus being the unique son of God, does not make him God. It only means he was special. more unique than others. more endeared by God!

unless the Jesus that the bible talks about is schizophrenic (I apologize) and has two personalities... sometimes he is God, sometimes he gives up on that and becomes completely human. If he is all God and all human simultaneously, he must always be God, and always be human simultaneously, and he doesn't seem to always act like God. he seem to need God in many cases, and be his servant.

but the problem is those passages are very few in comparison to how many passages like the ones I showed above. And there is a slight contradiction here... it may have started from translations, or it may have found its way to christianity through the years, I don't know!
but all I say is, since both interpretations are possible... we must respect both interpretations. Shouldn't we? :)

Rock Girl... nowhere does JESUS HIMSELF call himself God. the passage in John where he says "I and father are one" is symbolic. he is talking about his sheep. he is saying my father is to you, as I am to my sheep, and we are ideologically the same.

some of the people who wrote the gospels afterwards (authors unknown in most cases) may have believed he was!! the council of nicea definitely believed it. The translators of the bible, and the council of trent believed it. So the things you read today are heavily influenced by those beliefs, and it takes hours and hours of research to be able to take the gold out of the mud.

1. there are no true muslim states, as far as I am concerned. The problem with Iran is far deeper. They are under dictatorship. They have dealt with wars and revolutions all their lives. You really can't judge Islam by them!! :)

@2919james, No problems existed when I was raised in Iran or problem & every nation in the west gave a free pass to Iranian travelers, most European nations we did not even have to wait in an imigration line.
All of Middle East is under dictatorship, who are you kidding. My beliefs are lived, studied, researched & I have traveled 4 continents to come up with what I believe in.
Irans problem is Islam, it has been since its invasion & force of conversion to Islam that took 700 years.

You see I'm not just worshiping a God that was written about in a book, I'm worshiping a true, real life, God. I pray one day you will understand this yourself. I have read many accounts by CHRISTIANS that this passage does not refer to Jesus being God. It is simply misunderstood. O God, at the time, was a figure of speech. It is like me telling you "OH MY GOD!!!" (I'm sorry if you consider that a swear word, but it is said quite often). I will forward you a link by a Christian scholar who will tell you that passage has nothing to do with Jesus being God, and it is only a figure of speech.

I only hope that you are able to accept, that bible can be very vague, and it is possible to get many thousands of interpretations out of it (therefore the many sects in christianity)... And because of that, I ask you to understand how someone can believe in something other than what you may believe in, and don't think that they will be condemned to hell for it. :)

YOu must realize that it is impossible for everyone to be able to relate to God through Christianity. I have had many debates with my christian friends, and all it ever did, was to loosen their faith, which caused them to end up believing in nothing. as a muslim, I much rather have someone believe in God through Christianity, than not believe in God at all. Fight the common enemy (atheism)!!
Muslims believe in Jesus as Messiah. They believe in his miraculous birth (these are things that many christians today deny!)

Iranians are after a more liberal interpretation of Islam, but not after abandoning it. And that is only the majority.
But yes, there are certain opposing groups who hate Islam all together, but then again, once Islam is out of the picture for an Iranian Christianity will not be their next option. For them, if they reach a point where they lose their belief in Islam, they will lose their belief in God and all spirituality altogether, and I have seen many examples of that.

Depressing to see the truly appalling amount of flaming going on in this post. Those of you who call yourselves Christians should be rebuked for participating in such nonsense. That is not the way of Jesus -- nor were the regular pogroms against Jews in Medieval Europe. I'm glad to see that many Muslims in Iran are coming to know Jesus, but it is my sincere hope that they don't repeat the same mistakes my ancestors did, nor grow cold in their faith.

Of course, the Islamic Shia govt represent at least a minority of Iranians and probably did for a majority in the late 70's and 80's. They did not come to power by accident. They were put in power by Iranian Muslims.
