I have been thinking about this for some time but i have no speccy to muck about with... i like the tv though, my god i sound old :(
But first have to find a decent 128k spec that people don't want a kings ransom for!
I just wouldn't mind playing target renegade again, or spy vs spy arctic antics or saboteur ah i could go on.... no really. Anyone know what happened to the compact flash card interface?
@VintageJunior You may use a CD-to-tape adaptor which WAS used when the discmans where uesd in conjunction with the old car stereos which was accepting only cassettes. I guess only a few might exist nowadays though... If you want to reply, do it to me personally so I will see it in my inbox. :-)
goto world of spectrum, then utilities then download k7zx, use this program to convert your .z80 or .sna game files into wav or mp3, find setting that loads and is quick and your done. you can also convert .tap to .sna or .z80 by loading the game in an emulator then saving a snapshot. There are no mp3s to download because its easy to make them yourself this way
@1236874n Same way you connected a taperecorder to it. Isn't it pretty self explanatory? On the computer you do nothing different. The computer doesn't know if the sound is coming from an mp3 player, a tape or whatever. It's just sound. instead of connecting your headphones, you connect it to the audio input on the spectrum.
I know, it's a laugh now but if you reminded your parents of how much they payed for computers in the day they would flat refuse it was the truth, My parents bought an acorn Electron and the first thing my dad did was blow the colour in it. It cost arounf 200 quid. People complain about prices now but they are talking crap. All the dads watched Tomorrow's World in those days which may explain the mythos surrounding computers in those days.
Very nice video. on my website you can online text for free to anyone. You can send multiple text messages to your friends. Just go to my profile to see.
did you have to amplify the sound from the mp3 player? which type of spectrum are you using? on my 48k I was unable to load anything from the pocket mp3 player since the volume level was too low...
The loading of video was on a Spectrum+ with a cheap mp3-player and with no amplifier. But you are right, some mp3player has very low level. Solutions can be using amplifiers or edit wav file for increasing its volume level
@maiki60fps Sorry for the late reply but i got a mini amplifier that came with some portable speakers, ill let you know once i get my spectrum on tuesday if it works.....
@1861robertelee i assume it would but i had no need in the end because i discovered OTLA, it compresses the game loading into seconds rather than mins, just plug the laptop directly in the spectrum
With a discman, I recorded audio tracks from old spec games, and loaded the games through it. I guess I made the first CD-ROM drive for ZX-spectrum :D
I have found that JetPac and Knight Lore also work with this. Is there any kind of list online which shows settings that have been tested for different games? I can find very little info about k7zx online via google or WOS
I must apolize for that lack of documantation in k7zx.
I presented k7zx in es.comp.sistemas.sinclair news group and WOS forums. There I could solve directly questions about the utility. But it seems that k7zx has spread more than expected.
So i'll try to make some documentation on the next k7zx versión, but my English is not so good.
It's a brilliant utility. Would this have been possible back in the 80's? I'm amazed the Spectrum can accept data at such high bit rates. I assume the basic loader contains the code which overwrites the standard ROM loading routines?
I guess it could have been possible, but in the 80's you would have had to use either a record player (?!), a VHS or if you had the money for it, a CD player.
awesome!!!!

Too bad I can't do that, I have a +2 :(
VintageJunior 1 year ago
how come, and how did he load it from an mp3 player if the player wasnt attached to the spectrum?
rainxxxx 1 year ago
The +2, AFAIK, doesn't have a tape connector since it has its tape player built-in.
Besides, I think the jack connector of the MP3-player is a bit in the shadows of his hand.

@VintageJunior The +2, +2A and +3 models have a TAPE/SOUND socket at the back, presumably for an external audio source.
