  • awesome!!!!

  • I have been thinking about this for some time but i have no speccy to muck about with... i like the tv though, my god i sound old :(

But first have to find a decent 128k spec that people don't want a kings ransom for!

I just wouldn't mind playing target renegade again, or spy vs spy arctic antics or saboteur ah i could go on.... no really. Anyone know what happened to the compact flash card interface?

  • Where can I download old SPECTRUM vintage games on MP3?

  • Aaargh! That startup noise! It burns! LOL, In The Hall of The Mountain King.

  • the sprite running played the hall of the mountain king when he runs lol

  • can you do this with a zx 128k?

how/where do you connect the mp3 player?

    niceone!

  • Too bad I can't do that, I have a +2 :(

  • how come, and how did he load it from an mp3 player if the player wasnt attached to the spectrum?

  • The +2, AFAIK, doesn't have a tape connector since it has its tape player built-in.

Besides, I think the jack connector of the MP3-player is a bit in the shadows of his hand.

  • @VintageJunior You may use a CD-to-tape adaptor which WAS used when the discmans where uesd in conjunction with the old car stereos which was accepting only cassettes. I guess only a few might exist nowadays though... If you want to reply, do it to me personally so I will see it in my inbox. :-)

  • @VintageJunior The +2, +2A and +3 models have a TAPE/SOUND socket at the back, presumably for an external audio source.

  • @VintageJunior

You can get a tape/mp3 adapter very cheaply

  • Well, would it work with the FastLoading-converters?

  • Awesome video. Keep on with that good work!

  • Fantastic how you did that. I have that Aiwa VHS too.

  • any one know of any sites for spectrum games that are in mp3 format that loads fast

  • world of spectrum

  • Did you find any games in MP3 format? I looked on World of Spectrum and couldn't find any.

  • thats not how it works, theres a converter tool for tap files, let me know if you still wanna find out

  • thats not how it works, theres a converter tool if your still struggling let me know and I'll give you the lowdown

  • where can i find some mp3s 4 my spectrum+ ???

  • goto world of spectrum, then utilities then download k7zx, use this program to convert your .z80 or .sna game files into wav or mp3, find setting that loads and is quick and your done. you can also convert .tap to .sna or .z80 by loading the game in an emulator then saving a snapshot. There are no mp3s to download because its easy to make them yourself this way

  • Thx, but after downloading & unzipping the "source_k7zx_ 4.3" datei I cannt runit because there isnt any .exe datei in the file. !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you need to go down the page on the otla link, do not download the source theres more downloads below download k7zx_win_bin_4.3.zip it is 1.0mb

  • Brother youre great! Thx. I llpost a video at time!

  • how to do you get the spectrum to load form the mp3 and how do u conect the mp3 to the spectrum

  • @1236874n Same way you connected a taperecorder to it. Isn't it pretty self explanatory? On the computer you do nothing different. The computer doesn't know if the sound is coming from an mp3 player, a tape or whatever. It's just sound. instead of connecting your headphones, you connect it to the audio input on the spectrum.

  • how do you get it on the MP3, just upload the data and change the file extension?

  • I didnt find either, Where aare tthesse mp3s hidden???

  • so you load the program by playing the mp3 into the headphone jack on the spectrum?

  • Yes, but you need a male to male audio jack as well.

  • There is one glich I see on the flashing Manic Miner screen, I get many more when I forget to turn the volume up on my mobile phone 'tape recorder'

  • What is this new technology MP3? Is it technology gathered from the Roswell Crash?

The ZX Spectrum made me believe in the supernatural - all that praying waiting and wishing a game would load ""

  • not bad, but life with the Spectrum is never complete without "R Tape loading error, 0:1"

  • Hahahaha that used to piss me off after waiting 10mins for a game to load then that comes up.

  • Nice! You cannot fast load like this on most other systems, because they look for actual "tones"

  • WHY??? I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT!!

  • if you had the money for it, lol, they now cost £20 or less at a car boot sale, back in the day they cost a months salary!!!

  • I know, it's a laugh now but if you reminded your parents of how much they payed for computers in the day they would flat refuse it was the truth, My parents bought an acorn Electron and the first thing my dad did was blow the colour in it. It cost arounf 200 quid. People complain about prices now but they are talking crap. All the dads watched Tomorrow's World in those days which may explain the mythos surrounding computers in those days.

  • lol, hall of the mountain king.

  • did you have to amplify the sound from the mp3 player? which type of spectrum are you using? on my 48k I was unable to load anything from the pocket mp3 player since the volume level was too low...

  • The loading of video was on a Spectrum+ with a cheap mp3-player and with no amplifier. But you are right, some mp3player has very low level. Solutions can be using amplifiers or edit wav file for increasing its volume level

  • @maiki60fps Sorry for the late reply but i got a mini amplifier that came with some portable speakers, ill let you know once i get my spectrum on tuesday if it works.....

  • @greyhoundgill well, did it work?

  • @1861robertelee i assume it would but i had no need in the end because i discovered OTLA, it compresses the game loading into seconds rather than mins, just plug the laptop directly in the spectrum

  • I made something similar 10 years ago.

With a discman, I recorded audio tracks from old spec games, and loaded the games through it. I guess I made the first CD-ROM drive for ZX-spectrum :D

  • You beat me to it! :)

  • @arhpa

Hey, you are not the only one. I did the same thing myself; Had a Sony Discman D145 back then :p

Now I am using some cheepoo no name portable CD player as external "CD-ROM" for my Spectrums; Yea, I have a rubber keyboard 48k and several clones.

  • @arhpa Codemasters released a Spectrum games compilation on CD back in the day...

  • @arhpa Imagine the schizoid technology that would've arisen had the ZX Spectrum remained in mass use up till this day.

  • great!

to yukatanDX: make a .wav: x1 speed, this is 20 min cassete = 20 min capture. Compress to .mp3, about 5 min...

  • u would spend hours tio encode a mp3 if u had memory

  • I wish I still had my zx spectrum. I took it apart way back. :)

  • I have found that JetPac and Knight Lore also work with this. Is there any kind of list online which shows settings that have been tested for different games? I can find very little info about k7zx online via google or WOS

  • I agree. Superb and interesting utility with no supporting material. There's no info provided with the program itself, not even a read me.

  • I must apolize for that lack of documantation in k7zx.

I presented k7zx in es.comp.sistemas.sinclair news group and WOS forums. There I could solve directly questions about the utility. But it seems that k7zx has spread more than expected.

So i'll try to make some documentation on the next k7zx versión, but my English is not so good.

  • It's a brilliant utility. Would this have been possible back in the 80's? I'm amazed the Spectrum can accept data at such high bit rates. I assume the basic loader contains the code which overwrites the standard ROM loading routines?

  • I guess it could have been possible, but in the 80's you would have had to use either a record player (?!), a VHS or if you had the money for it, a CD player.

  • hehehe Excellent

  • you even have a retro 14 inch tv LOL

  • I have k7zx3.0. Where can I find version 4? Thanks for the video. Really nice. :)
