Putin has shown proof that Ukraine stole gas, ample amounts of proof and yes I think we may be taking the Ukrainians to court. We did not shut the pipelines, Ukraine shut their pipelines, our pipelines kept working but Ukraine wasn't letting the gas through. You overestimate how much we care, we don't care. Europe broke international law by recognizing Kosovo so it can't say anything. Russia did not break any international laws in this current gas situation.

Its not impossible, the valves were designed to withstand that kind of pressure. Ukraine admitted that it wasn't letting Russian gas through, they brought up some bullshit about them not being able to afford gas needed to make the electricity to get the valve system to work, EU agreed to buy it for Ukraine but it was a nonsense excuse.

Georgia signed the agreements that recognized the Russian forces stationed in South Ossetia as peacekeepers, they were peacekeepers, they were geared up only for peacekeeping work, they did nothing to provoke Georgian aggression. 1921 does matters as a proof of South osetia non-existence in essence. peacekeepers were warned ab. assault by georgian side. part of them spent few days in headquarters together with mercenaries from russia - they used it as a shelter. some took part in a fight and were killed. first peacekeeper was killed on aug 6 and was georgian btw.

Ukrainians shut off transit to European countries because of their own corrupt infrastructure. All that has happened is Ukraine's fault. I would not go as far as saying that Russia is in a cold war with America. I doubt that this time the ruin is in the side of the Russians, since the econmic conditions favor the Russians right now. I can tell you that while the United States is complaining about poor economic conditions, Russian economy is soaring and this is without the help of the WTO. If Russia was part of the WTO, the United States strong hold in the world economy would be challenged.

No, not just the US, the Cold War now involves the EU, NATO, Ukraine, the Baltics, and all the former USSR countries who cherish their sovereignty. Yes, maybe if Russia was in the WTO, she could have challenged the US or at least furthered Russia's economy beyond oil shipments....but that will not happen now....Putin has burned that bridge. Kiss the G8 goodbye, too. Russia had a chance to be great without using missiles and tanks....Putin has blown that chance.

It is US that provoked our current relations, not Russia, Putin may not be the best leader but so far he didn't make too many mistakes. We will not surrender our sovereignty to the West, we will not be its puppet, everything else, including democracy, takes the back seat than it comes to protecting our sovereignty.

Ossetians are caucasians, blood feud is not disappeared there, and they were at war with Georgia in 1991-92, they would never agree to live under Georgia's authority. Georgians had to help Ossetians and wait a couple of generations if they wanted to return ossetians to Georgia. But Saakashvili didn't want Ossetians, he wanted Ossetian territory only. I'm very sorry for the people who died in this war - ossetians, georgians, ukrainians, americans, russians. It was so stupid.

Georgia started the attack on civilians, the south ossetians, who are russian citizens. We should support independence for Abkhazia and south ossetia. It's a disgrace and a joke when USA and the americans condemns russia's actions. They have invaded afghanistan and iraq and has killed tens of thousands of civilians. And they supported the Kosovo independence!! And not this! WTF?! This is the same situation! Fuck USA! Fuck NATO! We should have our own pan-european organization instead!

Well, I remember reading about the Georgian attack on the 7th of August. Most people don't apparently, cause it seem obvious to me that Russia was going to retaliate. You get some of your citizens killed, you avenge them. Whats the big deal ?
