  • Class . . .

  • whats wrong with me? saying that

  • never heard of him

  • One of the best irishman ever.

  • "...these are a series of clichés..." - I remember laughing harder at this than almost anything in my life. We miss you, Spike. Utterly unique.

  • well the truth is spike milligan was not british in fact he held an irish passport his father was born in sligo town ,spike did how ever serve in the british army and was refused a british passport in 1960 and ireland gave him his natural right to be irish because of his bloodline but in any case the legend will remain one of the funnest people ever and a irish poet among the best may he forever rest in peace

  • Sometimes it only takes a handful of words to make the entire room lose it.

  • This man was a comic genius!

  • RIP Spike.

  • LEGEND. Take a look a Chris Morris's acceptance speech too.

  • the original punk.

  • Genius nerver dies....

  • Only Spike could get away with saying that!

  • @sparkygl0s Shortly afterward, Spike sent a fax to the Prince, which said "I supposed a knighthood is out of the question?" Fortunately, HRH loved Spike's humor and was a close friend, and an honorary KBE was bestowed on Spike (since Spike had Irish citizenship)

  • A troubled man..Genious mind.

  • BUT YOU KNOW PRINCE CHARLES WOULD HAVE LAUGHED AT THAT AND DID

    "APPARENTLY"

  • The best thing is I bet you anything the Prince of Wales was howling in laughter when he heard this XD

  • There are no ashtrays at Michael Barrymore's house, he just puts his fag out in the pool.

  • Anyone sitting down when he took the stage should be flogged. The contribution Spike Milligan made to the world of comedy, the British character and the WORLD in general is incalculable. And the personal cost for that brilliance, staggering and brutal. A true genius and the funniest man of the 20th Century. Bravo Spike. Bravo. RIP.

  • hahahahahaha. thats amazing. SIr Spike. You Legend.

  • Fairy Softness can't stop your 9 month old girl turning into a 3 year old boy mid-advert...

    ...But it helps.

  • Eccles is my favourite, with Bluebottle very close behind...

  • @SuperRothers Eccles was Milligan - but Bluebottle was Sellers.

  • One of comedy's classic moments, I love the way Spike enjoys his own jokes and isn't shy in showing it, his shoulders shaking make it even funnier

  • We need another Spike, and another Pete - talk about saving the best for last. I remember watching this live with my mum and dad (my dad introduced me to The Goon Show) and we all had bladder-control moments. Who else could say that about the heir to the throne and lift the roof off? The timing was effortless and beyond perfect, and what killed me was Mel Smith at 3:08. Classic Milligan though - real anger in there somewhere. Mozart of comedy - Discuss, as they used to say in exam questions.

  • @Axpoet More like the Beethoven of comedy, as nothing could take his passion for it away.

  • adverts suck.....

  • oh my god.. Ian Hislop HAD HAIR?!

  • Admit it, Charles would of been pissing his pants! lol

  • couldn't agree more spike !! what a Top man spike was !

  • there's another bastard spike who standing to your left the whole time.

  • Spike was an incredible talent and human being, I could not agree more about the comments on Ben Elton. A prick !!! You can guarantee he will never experience an evening in his honor such as that.

  • Oh the little groveling bastard

  • Moved me to tears!

  • amazing comic timing.

  • i bet if i walked in there, all those old people would give me death looks ( im 14)

  • He is good with the one-liners xD "I'm not gonna thank anybody. Because I did it ALL of my own.." haha! x)

  • Spike Milligan - class.

  • Love Spike - he was a true legend, and a complete one-off.

Without him the entire history of comedy would have been different and, let's face it, much worse.

THAT is how important he was.

    RIP

  • i hope justin bieber dies.

  • @paulallan1000 are you honestly saying that Blackaddder is crap? the most iconic british sitcom of all time, and you describe it as "a shit new wave of comedy"

  • @00jobin I tell you what,i'd rather watch the old comedians compared to the rubbish classed as comedy these days. These comedians did'nt have to have an f or c word in every joke to be funny, just a fantastic script and likeable personalities. We'll still be watching the likes of them in 50 years time when this current crop of filth is long forgotten

  • @00jobin Blackadder was classic, the "shit new wave of comedy" started in the early 1990s...

  • I sent Spike a letter in about 1994 and he sent me one back. He lived in Rye which has some irony. Dumbwomans lane if i recall correctly, what a lovely gentleman.

  • John Sessions going mental.

  • @batmanofni And Ian Hislop with hair!!

  • These kinds of awards ceremonys where everything's over the top and so pretentious make me want to eat my face off. Aaaaggghhh.. that fucking music they play!

  • The world without Spike is a very sad and depressing place to be indeed.

  • now thats the sign of a great comedian... just a few words, and the whole room is gasping for air from laughing... thank you spoke millignar, you wonderful typing error you :)

  • These are a series of cliches....

    LOL

  • I wonder what Spike would have said if Charles had been there in person.

  • @19630541 He would've said the exact same thing. Prince Charles is a massive Spike Milligan fan and the two of them were very close friends. Spike wrote his obituary when he knew he was dying which read "Wrote the Goon Show and died" and his tombstone reads "I told you I was ill" in Irish. Comedy genius until the day he died and beyond.

  • @19630541 He would've said the exact same thing. Prince Charles is a massive Spike Milligan fan and the two of them were very close friends.

  • and the next day he sent the Prince a telegram saying " suppose a knighthood is out of the question! Got to love Spike

  • WOAH, IAN HISLOP WITH HAIR!!

  • 2:50 squatch!!!!

  • all the people in the audience have big noses like there all jewish

  • @hanghoodiescum

    Your definitely American.

  • @hanghoodiescum Yeah, the people in the audience have big noses like they're Jewish. Have you a little prick? I know you ARE a little prick, but HAVE you a little prick?

  • Who is the woman the other side of JR, Maureen Lipmans husband ??

  • Good clip. Spike was touched with mad comic genius. The fact that he imitated foreigners and thought daft people were funny does not detract a bit from his creativity. He always stuck up for the underdog actually. I used to like Ben Elton, it embarasses me now.

  • I`m sure Charlie lhfao AS WELL

  • The Great Man. God Bless You Spike.

  • 2:50 chewbacca!!

  • Really Ladies, this seminal moment in british comedy, is reduced to your petty comments about ben elton, and some inarticulate stuff about BNP supporters. Have you actually watched this video?? The great man takes the piss out of royalty, and makes Jonafan Woss look like a complete pwank (plank). Forget your petty loyalties, enjoy the great man.

  • No.. leave that to you..

  • I notice that Ian Hislop is the only one not making a big show of his applause.. all the others know the cameras are on them and act accordingly.. At least Hislop knows what's what..

  • @Lytton333 At least Hislop knows what? That he himself is an unfunny twat?

  • Spike also took the piss out of the Irish and the English so what? He took the piss out of humanities daftness and if that daft person had a turban or a red beret it was all fair game. Just because he wasnt drowning in 'P.C' it doesnt make him a bigot.

All jokes have a target, as long as malice isnt the reason for that joke there is no harm done, he was a grumpy old git but not a bigot.

  • show the racist fucker the window the wall and finally the door

  • If I'm not mistaken, the epitaph on Spike Milligan's grave says " I told you I was ill "

    Legend.

  • @ottotrot it does, but, unfortunately, it's in gaellic as the parish council thought it a bit too jovial for a cemetry. Bastards.

  • Comedy 101. Greatly missed legend.

  • great guy he was, I reckon true comedy died with him, imagine if he was still alive though, i'd never have a dull day with his humour on every now and then

  • Timeless comedian , one of the greats.

  • if i get to be as old as spike was when this was filmed, i hope to be a fraction as sharp and switched on as him. a true hero.

  • Priceless.

  • i wish some one smack that smug cunt ben elton in his smug face..

the way he claps makes me sick..hes afraid of spike..ross and ur fake laugh what is it with them??

  • One comic genius and two twats on stage

  • he was everything that comedian ought to be.......funny for starters, original, mad and unafraid of opinion :)

    a true legend.

    RIP

  • @navnig haha definetly, he could give any comedian now adays a run for his money, total genious :D

  • OMG! Ian Hislop has hair!

  • Genius.

  • Spoken like a true Irishman Love you Spike - always

  • 77 years old and still funnier and faster than some a quarter of his age.

  • @paulallan1000 I second that motion!

  • @paulallan1000

Thankfully you don`t seem at all bitter about the situation.

  • @paulallan1000 chill out.

  • @paulallan1000 Oh,how beautifully you put your point over,marvelous!

  • @Thurstonsfunfair yeah well 23 people agree with me how many agree with you?

  • @Thurstonsfunfair I'm agreeing with your statement! You sure you're not Ben Elton trying to pick up a bit of work on the side? Keep smiling, smiler :)

  • @paulallan1000 That is the best comment I have ever read! Bravo!

  • @paulallan1000 well said the cunt even denies that he was ever left wing, opportunist self satisfied cunt that last part was a direct quote from his mummys memoires

  • @paulallan1000 I love that comment bro!

  • @paulallan1000 You wouldn't be Roy Chubby Brown by any chance. Do your homework Chubby I think you'll find he wasn't including Spike.

  • @calum66 If you checked your facts Elton said in numerous interviews in the early 80's that Spike Milligan should not have been on tv as his shows were so out of touch with the youth of today and it was time he retired check it out then apologise

  • @paulallan1000

Ben Elton does write fantastic novels though.

  • @ChainsawVsGod Are you kidding?? I started First Casualty and gave up, it was that tedious, would never have gone to print without his name on it, Blackadder GF was pure genius tho

  • @barnbersonol

Haha. First casualty and Inconvievable are his only two bad novels. Don't judge all his stuff by that one book though. Please. He's written some amazing stuff. You should check out Stark, Gridlock or High society. Or literally any other of his books. Hilarious and very well written.

  • @paulallan1000 Totally agree, Ben Elton is about as funny as hemaroids. He`s fucking useless!! And whether anyone likes Jim Davidson or not, he`s right about one thing, Ben Elton has proven that you can still be a stand-up comic WITHOUT getting any laughs.

  • @paulallan1000

Well I wouldn't quite go that far, but I certainly agree with your comments.

  • @paulallan1000 I agree.

  • @paulallan1000

sir your words are genius, god bless your mouth

  • @paulallan1000

And he's a Jew as well.

  • @paulallan1000 thats harsh dude, but interesting. peace.

  • @paulallan1000 my sentiments exactly!!...LOL!!!!:)

  • this was hilarious. good old spike. now thats an exit to be remembered.

  • 4 people are little grovelling bastards.

  • Did you see Barrymore looking around the room, seeing who to invite back to his place for a pool party.....

  • @ebutuoymai - Haaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!! That is fucking funny!!!!! Genius! :-D

  • Hahahahahahhahahahahahhhahaahahahahhaahhahahaahahahahahahahahaahhaahhaahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahaah!

    X¬D

  • spike milligan is a ledgend, i still cry with laughter every time i watch this<3!

  • broom2000..This is a really funny clip & all you can do is come out with a horrible snidey comment. Grow up

  • Jonothan Ross is such a fucking knob

  • so many cunts in one room!

  • @broom2000 Ah, woman hater eh?

  • @broom2000 And pricks!

  • Spike Milligan was a true comedy giant, what a pity none of his genius rubbed off on to the overpaid nob-ends standing either side of him here. R.I.P Spike.

  • @HVAEUHV Amen to that!

  • Legend

  • just after this Spike would send a fax to the Prince of Wales, it would read "So, I suppose a Knighthood's out of the question?". Spike would get his Knighthood six years later.

  • Hahahahaha Clasic

  • one of my all time favourite comedians, I read all his war books, the funniest thing I ever read, he was full of witty quips and one liners, one of my favourites is " I want to be buried up a tree so people will look up to me ". and about his friend Harry Secombe he said "I'm glad he died before me, because I didn't want him to sing at my funeral." a comic genius.

  • Nice to see Jonathan Ross shutting up for once in the presence of a true star.

  • I was a little too young to fully depreciate Spike but as i have gained years and seen more and more of spikes wonderful comedy i can now fully appreciate the intelligence and wit behind it all, oh Spike... wherever good humor and silliness abide i know your there in spirit.

  • @pcvideogamer Good words, lovely sentiment. Did you mean appreciate though? Rather than depreciate? lol :)

  • @SethHesio ahh yes, slip of the finger there :) thanks

  • RIP old man. We will never see his like again due to all the cretins in the "PC Brigade".

    Thanks fro the laughs.

  • @seamusmcmad - what on earth have the 'PC Brigade' got to do with anything? Spike was a forward-thinker in every way - I'm sure he would be disgusted to have his name linked with any sort of harking back to the 'good old days' when everyone could be as racist and sexist as they liked.

  • @seamusmcmad Yeah, I must apologise. I thought you were just a bit of a tit, but it seems from looking at your other comments that you're a BNP supporter. I have no interest in getting into a battle with a racist moron. Thank you and goodbye.

  • @lornamt Oh....and one last thing. Why do idiots like yourself always try to turn things into a "race argument"??

You really have a problem and should seek professional assistance.

  • @lornamt well well well, you seem to have hit the nail on the big fat racist head there, good on you. I think Spike would approve.

  • @lornamt

"His Q5 series in 1969 contained a number of racist gags, with overt references to "wogs" and Jews.."

Maybe you should actually learn what your supposed hero was actually like before imposing your politically correct views on him.

    Mug.

  • @lornamt Sigh How I miss those days ..

  • Number 1 COMEDY WRITER/PERFORMER/PERSONALITY -NEVER SURPASSED - OR EQUALLED - THE ETERNAL TERENCE (SPIKE) MILLiGNA - the famous spelling mistake......

  • He may've started getting frail in body, but his mind was always sharp still. R.I.P Spike, from another "grovelling bastard", your humour will always live on at least.

  • A true genius. Sadly missed.

  • People have been known to be left crippled by my humour... Like this... Classic!!

  • i liked the way that johnathon woss just gave up at the end there lol

  • superb

  • What ?...

    What ?

  • Mr Ross short of words .. never hear that much .. Spike a true legend

  • I also call on the BBC and 2entertain to release "Q" on DVD.

It would be about bloody time, don't you think?

  • Legend! the only to word to sum him up

  • Great man. R.I.P. Spike.

  • I hate to sound old fashioned, but they don't make them like that anymore

  • sadly missed but never forgotten...........

  • What a guy, say it as it is, lol. Miss him so much!

  • One of Humour's big moments.ONLY Milligan could have said THIS and only he could have got away with it and made EVERYONE explode with joy and laughter at it because of what he said. Its also a joy to see him chuckling at it HIMSELF after he said it like a naughty schoolboy ! ; what a madman !

  • LEGEND

    LEGEND

    LEGEND

  • Wont see anybody like HIM ever again that's for sure

  • Why is the Q series not on DVD!.

  • Loved by the British establishment. Crapped on by the British establishment.

  • whys ian hislop not clapping?

  • @kittmac22 Because he's a smug cunt with no taste.

  • One of lifes great hope he is still keeping them laughing in Heaven.

  • One of lifes great hope he is still keeping them laughing in Heaven.

  • Spike Milligan, too much laughter for one lifetime but what a life it was.

  • A magnificent human being and humorist. The very best comedy of the last 50 years owes a debt to this man.

  • One of the comedy legends, God Bless Spike.

  • spike made me wet myself

    hope he's fucking happy

  • This is when tv was at it's best. Look at he faces there Smith, Hislop, Sessions, Barrymoore and not forgetting the genius that is Milligan! t went downhill after the stopped showing it live cos the swearing etc...I'm also glad at 0:50 they cut to the cunts not applauding or giving him the standing ovation he so clearly deserved, respected and worked hard for. Look at the guy on the balcony with the grey hair looking down at them with the contempt they deserve! Good Boy!!

  • Rember this live, classic

  • The man was a genius! One famous person I wish i'd met!

  • only spike could get away with that.............

  • Remember watching this live. One of the most epic, jaw-dropping moments in the history of British TV.

  • spikes the man!

  • i love the smile his got

  • one of the best irish men

  • @lac6480 well he was born in india and lived most his life in this country (england) so don't claim him to be completly irish!

  • @bensimps123 He was awarded a kbe, knight commander of the british empire. It was honourary due to the fact he was an irish citizen. His coffin was draped in the flag of the republic of ireland. His headstone bears gaelic (irish) language. I dont think its in dispute what nationality spike thought he was.

  • @daithijjj but still he sounded english and lived here for longer so in my view that makes him more british then irish but if he wanted to be a fake irishman so be it
