You are correct, and you know what? The only problem in this movie is the story line, however it~s extremelly well done! Great soundtrack, great photography, great acting and great direction. Farrell and Foxx have a kind of unique style for this movie. Great Work.

Michael Mann makes great action sequences. Check out a movie called Thief, it's and old one from him but it's like Heat/Miami Vice. Also, Public Enemies is coming out soon (also directed by Mann, starring Christian Bale & Jhonny Depp)... Hope it's good.

Yes and another point that I would like to make is that Mann always has the best climatic scenes: which adds to the greatness of the movie or saves it. His great climatic scenes are examples like Miami vice, Heat, Insider, and Collateral(even though it reminded me of a horror movie but in this case a good film). Ali's climax wasn't that motivating, the actual event of Ali beating Foreman was more climatic than the movie but the scenes before that in the Ali film was great such as the opening.
Thanks, he is my favorite director. The thing with his movies is that the realism is present to the core and his visuals and music are perfectly matched:as seen with his last two (and more known)films Collateral and Miami Vice. His films also have replay value which is what you really want in a good movie.

Ive seen insider a lot, but im intimidated to watch that movie a lot because I feel like the next time i see that movie, it might get tiring or boring-which is what i don't want it to be.

But then after I saw it again and gave it chance-which everybody should give a Michael Mann movie, I thought that it was decent-only because Smith and Foxx carried the movie. Actually Foxx stole the movie with his performance, Smith was good but Foxx really shined.
But if I were to compare Ali with Collateral, miami vice, heat, and the insider-I wouldn't rank that above any of those movies, but it does get my respect in some way. It still ranks as a good Michael Mann movie. I can't say the same about most of Michael Bay's movies

Miami vice is great film making by Michael Mann. He wanted to make different adaptation of the series and he was a successful at it. He made a newer form of the series, so all I could say is good job.
Miami Vice was one of the best movies of 2006. It had great direction, cinematography, casting, music, tone, action scenes-plus it had a great montage at the end. Michael Mann is the man!!!

Also people say that the keep is Mann's worst film-I agree I loathe that film. But that movie has gained notoriety as a underrated gem. Manns movies are either liked now and liked later or disliked now and liked later. Miami Vice's reactions were mixed(better than the keep or ali-directors such as Spike Lee said that he should've directed Ali instead because it was boring)-pretty decent, which is better than any Michael Bay film.
underrated movie-Vice was a great movie by Mann, but like all of Michael Mann's movies-this will be cherished. Really, concerning how the majority of the people hated or were disappointed with Ali-the movie has gained some support in recent years.
Ali wasn't really good, the only thing that REALLY carried that movie was Will Smith and Jamie Foxx (actually it was really Foxx). Without them the movie would've been just plain bad. The music in Ali was good, but Michael Mann movies always have a GREAT musical score.
Agree on the movie score and you are right without Smith and Foxx, it would not have been that good at all. Sometimes good stars make a slow movie better but sometimes even the stars can't do it.

Very few people liked this film. I am one of the few. I love Michael Mann's films. I thought this effort worked as a dark and minimalist crime drama. My main issue with the film was the love story between Sonny and Isabella. It seemed inauthentic and often diverted too far away from the meat of the story. After he spends time with her in Cuba, you forget what movie you're watching. Otherwise, I liked everything else.

Yes and another point that I would like to make is that Mann always has the best climatic scenes: which adds to the greatness of the movie or saves it. His great climatic scenes are examples like Miami vice, Heat, Insider, and Collateral(even though it reminded me of a horror movie but in this case a good film). Ali's climax wasn't that motivating, the actual event of Ali beating Foreman was more climatic than the movie but the scenes before that in the Ali film was great such as the opening.

Thanks, he is my favorite director. The thing with his movies is that the realism is present to the core and his visuals and music are perfectly matched:as seen with his last two (and more known)films Collateral and Miami Vice. His films also have replay value which is what you really want in a good movie.

Well it seems the same with Ali, the first time I've seen the film I hated it a lot. But then after I saw it again and gave it chance-which everybody should give a Michael Mann movie, I thought that it was decent-only because Smith and Foxx carried the movie. Actually Foxx stole the movie with his performance, Smith was good but Foxx really shined.

Miami vice is great film making by Michael Mann. He wanted to make different adaptation of the series and he was a successful at it. He made a newer form of the series, so all I could say is good job.

Miami Vice was one of the best movies of 2006. It had great direction, cinematography, casting, music, tone, action scenes-plus it had a great montage at the end. Michael Mann is the man!!!

Also people say that the keep is Mann's worst film-I agree I loathe that film. But that movie has gained notoriety as a underrated gem. Manns movies are either liked now and liked later or disliked now and liked later. Miami Vice's reactions were mixed(better than the keep or ali-directors such as Spike Lee said that he should've directed Ali instead because it was boring)-pretty decent, which is better than any Michael Bay film.

Ali wasn't really good, the only thing that REALLY carried that movie was Will Smith and Jamie Foxx (actually it was really Foxx). Without them the movie would've been just plain bad. The music in Ali was good, but Michael Mann movies always have a GREAT musical score.

Very few people liked this film. I am one of the few. I love Michael Mann's films. I thought this effort worked as a dark and minimalist crime drama. My main issue with the film was the love story between Sonny and Isabella. It seemed inauthentic and often diverted too far away from the meat of the story. After he spends time with her in Cuba, you forget what movie you're watching. Otherwise, I liked everything else.
