Federer has done well during the early part of his carreer, but now when he is near the end of his career people start to disrespect him and compare him to all the other top players like rafa and novak who are a lot younger than he is. Even though Federer is on the decline, people can't compare him to players who are early in their carrer and at their best. If people were to compare top players then compare Federer when he was at the top of his game a few years ago to Nadal and Djokovic now.
i dont know why so many people talk shit about roger when they cant even get into a grand slam compared to federer's 16. so until you have accomplished what he has, no one should talk and disrespect Federer or any other top tennis player.

Great video of the king at his best. What strikes me is the look on his face after winning that long point with Nadal. It's agressive but not relieved like I feel it often is now. Very confident hitting all the way through the point. He's (perhaps unjustifiably) stripped of much of his confidence now and he still consistently makes it to quarters, semis and finals in masters and slams. Obviously incredible.

only reason why federer is not the best at the moment, is because ATP slowed down all courts...and even know they barely can defaeat federer. If you take a closer look all Nadal, Djokovic, Murray are defensive players with counter abilities, so only reason why are they able to play vs. Federer is the fact that ball moves slower so they have time to catch it. If the courts are the same speed as 2002-2003, Federer would still be the best.
@BlacMky you have a very good point there, but the courts on wimbledon are maybe slower now, they should be fast enough for federer. I think he will win more than enough prices from now, before he stops playing tennis, really

I think. Think of bouncing a basketball on a hardwood court vs a soccer field. The example is a bit extreme, but it illustrates the basic concept.

As to the french open final federer wasnt beat like a dog. i just think (and my opinion is shared by some commentators and former players) that federer isnt himself when playing nadal. i mean he made 53 winners (to nadal's 39!) and 57 unforced errors! not only did he make a huge number of errors but he also made less winners wich is very rare for him! he had set pt and then served for the set. he lost that match rather than nadal won it!

@fadethetrade back then sampras' era stamina wasn't issue in tennis. Its technique. The fitter player may not win 5 setters. Sampras' stamina and endurance was weak as hell, much weaker than federer. One only plays s&v and the other needs to run around in his era. I believe tennis player don't put training into stamina compared to other major sports as only rafa has soccer player stamina. Look what happen when djokovic go mountains training to boost stamina. Rafa's poor technique was exposed.

@NottinghamForest22 even if he overtake i dont consider him to be GOAT. He plays to opponent weakness unlike federer decides what are his opponent strengths and use it against them. Nadal's game is choking to watch 'cause his opponents are winning if they raise their game. Many times their level dropped causing them to lose, stay the same for 3 hours and he is beaten. Not like nadal played insane, the opponents put in unforced errors out of nothing. Tennis players don't put much into stamina.
