for some reason this tornado, perhaps because of the suddeness and rarity, was freaky. It seems to have paraded around the proud campus of Maryland and then proceed to of campus student housing. weird.
so do i i live in greenbelt which is right next to college park and ther has never been a tornado in greenbelt ass long as my grandparents live here and my parents have for over 100 years there has never been a tornado in greenbelt
They were actually just leaving their father's work. Ironically he said they should head home early to avoid the worst of the storm, and it was when they were waiting to leave campus at that light on stadium drive (we assume) that their car was picked up.
actually remembered this tornado. it totally F-d up north campus. i was living in the elkton dorm when it happened, lookin out of the front window around 5 PM that afternoon and seeing the big tree that used to be in front of that building crashing down. they had everyone in that part of the campus fleein to the basement of the CRC if i remembered correctly.
it was quite a scene at that time, with this tornado coming shortly after the 9-11 attacks.
That was a really scary time. I was inside the Cambridge Community Center at the time inside a lecture... the person kept on talking despite the storm. When we walked out... what a mess
I remembered when this happened, I'll bet it was rough on most people, I remember two people were killed when there car was thrown over a building. I still find it surprising how there's never a decent warning for people. This is what makes me want to chase tornadoes. Nice vid
I was in Hagerstown dorm when it hit. I remember walking outside after it was over (much like this video depicts) and it was so surreal. There were stacks of cars on top of each other, and large trees crushing others. I took tons of pictures. A video of the tornado flipping all of those parked cars would have been amazing though. But I was scared to shit at the time!
Wow! I didn't know there was so much damage around the courtyards! Although I do distinctly remember seeing the damage on that church that is right at the corner of Metzerott Rd. and Unversity Blvd., which you can see towards the end of the video. I believe it was Lot 2 (behind the CRC) that just got completely pummeled. So many cars got damaged. And, of course, the worst part of it were those two girls who got killed.
I was thankfully in Glen Burnie at the time of the Tornado instead of my home in Riverdale (5 minutes from College Park). I was only in 4th grade when it happened but still, seeing this footage is scary. That's why I am going to be a storm chaser.
I remember this day too. First 9/11 happend and than the tornado. Whats Next! Did anyone get any pictures of the Shoppers/Home depot build after the storm hit on Charry hill rd? I was there when it happend. It's amazing what a tornado can do with out noticed.
That is "Overcome" by Live. It came out right around the time of the video. I felt it was appropriate. That was a rough month for anyone who lived there.
2001 was just a bad year for our area.

On the way to visit their father, their car was picked up by the tornado and launched over a building, killing them both on impact.

The next day, the Washington Post had one of the eeriest pictures of the Capitol. You could see the tornado behind it in the distance.
