Fenders are the worst guitars ever. Why would I pay more than a thousand dollars for a crappy stratocaster that has terrible buzzing noises due to age old single coils that are crap, doesn't sustain as good as Gibson, Jackson, and Ibanez, and comes with an ugly white pick guard? I should think not. The cheap Fender stock paint, pickups, pickguards, tuning pegs, and fretboard material sucks. If you play a Fender and I offended you thumb this down. If you agree with me, thumb this comment up.
That's right Jeff!! EC is trailblazer, freakin' pioneer, refined TASTE to the 20th power. Notice how he eases into it, just popping little clean funk ditties, then begins to burn a little bit, keeps building & ends up smokin' up high! He took the crowd on a ride as they all felt his vibe as he builds to a Climax! Kinda like SEX?!! He's the man & there will never ever be another!! Millions would recognize his playing in 10 notes or less!
Yes, yes he invented nothing, and maybe for you it's boring stuff. What you seem to miss is EC's innate ability to reach the spirits of those of us who find the assembly, musicianship and heart, yes somehow heart is often part of the EC package, compelling. Few other guitarists, nay MUSICIANS, have ever reached me the way EC does. Hate on but in the end he IS a legend, he IS revered by many many people. Why revered ? Well, maybe he reached their spirits as well. Long live EC !
@glezzery62 Couldn't agree more. Clapton has never done anything for me. I've failed to see what was so mind blowing about his work. His stuff with Cream was good, but Jimmy Page out shined him in every possible way imaginable. Same with Albert King, SRV, and a host of others.
Can you believe that The Beatles considered recruiting this man after Harrison stormed out?! And can you believe that he probably would've joined!? Good God! Imagine Eric Clapton on something like Come Together!!
Really nice choice...there are so many great ones to choose from...it was really cool how he had the back up singers tuned in to the solo too...thanks!
what the hell, this is the kind of thing I hear at every jamming session I'm at.... whats all this fuss about? Obv is better than all these shredders but it just sounds like a chilled out guy with a guitar...
AMAZING! That's real music and real talent! I hate the fact that some guitar players nowadays think that a good solo is just make the strongest and loudest fucking sound they can.
Real music isn't breaking the instrument down, real music is what Eric does: he has such a soul and knows how take the best melody out of the guitar. It's just amazing how his fingers work, reaching each note! And it's beautiful to see the passion he has when he plays! Loved it!
One of the great things about Clapton is this: Some people know how to make the guitar work and can play a trillion notes per second and some people are musicians who use the guitar to express their musicianship. Clapton is the latter. His solos are an extension of the melody of the song. They are also sh it hot and make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up on end!
@xxxmicamicaxxx All of that, PLUS Clapton can play a trillion and ONE notes per second. Hahaha. It's amazing how much control he has over each individual note. Truly the best guitarist in history, in my opinion.
h0ly-c0w! Seems about the usual way EC plays 'Sherrif', until he lets fly with a section about double usual pace! From 2.00 onwards, he's in danger of a Speeding Ticket. He doesn't usually hit the sort of super-fast Santana rate, with notes flying like confetti at a wedding, and he USUALLY keeps his eyes closed for a solo - I think he was stepping outside his comfort-zone here, and it came off beautifully. What else did you expect?
Did you know that B.B. King can't play and sing at the sometime. Seen it on a documentary, still could crap, but sounds like it might be true and if so, he and I have something in common; I can't chew bubble gum and walk at the same time.
I`ve seen Eric perform since the `70s. Sometimes he`s wasn`t inspired ( read to drunk to perform ) , other times he was plain God on 6 strings. But it was always something to remember. He`s one of the very few that realy masters the guitar in every way.
In the 60`s he was booked with John Mayall in Schiedam for 2 hours , they stayed for 6 hours playing straight till morning.......legendary!!
Yeah, the wrap-up is the line signature for I SHOT THE SHERIFF. But when you get to fly with this kind of swing shuffle cohesion across the arc of an instrumental lots of tales are told in the folds. -Dave@Woodpile
Now this song sounded good the minute I pressed play. Guitar solos are GREAT!! People love them. There are songs where the player may connect on various levels and it just jells and fits the song so well. I like Lay Down Sally where the drums just is simpley repeating the basic structure (Groove) and Eric just lays it down and gives the track the very best solo that fits the song.
Clapton and Hendrix are both one of a kind. Hendrix played dirtier and made love with his guitar, and Clapton has such a clean sound but theres just that something about it thats so amazing!
@cyczanin@cyczanin yeah..true. SRV was actually awesome. he took electric Blues playing to another level with songs like 'Little Wing', 'Scuttle Buttin', 'Lenny', 'Rude Mood' among others... He had more of a soulful feel for the guitar whereas Clapton often sounds too stuffy and reserved like the uptight Englishman that he is. Not that all English players are uptight.. obviously not.. Jimmy Pages blues playing had alot more fire and soul 25 yrs ago than Clapton's does now! IMHO

Relatively Boring pentatonic blues playing. This is highly over-rated. Clapton hasn't been on his game since Cream.

so, there will be a few a few (hundreds) guitarists who play faster and louder. But never forget, you guitarbrats:
1. EC invented it all
2. You don't have to die to be a legend
3. You don't have to be the strongest soldier to be King.
For King he is.
