The two mics I use for voiceovers are the Shure SM7B (dynamic) and the AKG C3000B (condenser).
Condensers have amazing response, but are often so sensitive that they call for shock-mounts, Pop-filters and an acoustically controlled environment, but the output is superb!
The SM7B is a workhorse vocal mic. My "go-to mic" choice for its excellent rejection of off-axis background noise and it has great shielding, in the event you have it near a computer monitor.
I've gotta disagree with that condenser remark. High end dynamics (and the SM7 although reasonably priced is considered high end) are "smoother" sounding on voices than a lot of condensers. Some artists who use dynamics for their vocals:
Anthony Kedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers
Brandon Boyd of Incubus
Billy Idol
I could go on and on but the Shure SM7b and Electro-Voice RE20 are mainstays in vocal booths all around the world.
What is a good preamp under 200.00 for the Shure SM7? I have one, but the output is wimpy.
