  • i got into tennis from watching the prince of tennis anime

  • Error. Frank is not looking at he ball when he hits it

  • is the kick serve the same as the topspin serve?

  • @dopefishing yes, its the same serve

  • Is this a green clay court?

  • Hey Will,

Can you please tell me what I'm doing wrong in my kick serve attempts? My serve is just not kicking.

    My video is /watch?v=zowivFc08xc

    Thanks

  • For some reason when i try to kick serve it ends up being a slice serve my coach said forget about kick at the moment and focus on hitting slice serves without drop my swing speed...need help :/

  • @williams12345679910 i think what might be your prioblem is that your not tossing far back enuf, try getting it a little behind your head and swing up, and not thru, my friend taught me a kcik this way today and i got it down in round 30 minutes, its ez to get if u understand the concept

  • I've gone through all these progressions, the videos are great, but I can't for the life of me get this kick serve down. I'm also using the generic strings that came with my Head radical microgel. I'm thinking strings must play a factor???? any advice. If I get better strings and make the tension right, maybe my racket will grab the ball better while I'm trying to kick it

  • a lot of this information is based on old data. you shouldn't be tossing in different areas because your opponent can tell which serve you are doing by your toss. and also, tossing behind you can injure your shoulder

  • But can you kick serve like Ibu Shinki?

  • will i grow taller if i play tennis regularly ?

  • @TheLeilisa - No, I'm afraid your genes and proper nutrition will determine your height (mostly your genes). For the nutrition stuff see mercola.com. Otherwise, just learn to work around being small (if you are). It has its advantages too!

  • @180Patrick360 i found something else called " helpo growth formula" and seems like work me.

  • Great, thx

  • this shits hard

  • does this serve work on smash court?

  • i toss my kick serve toss more into the court.

but its still behind my head.

  • press f5 the get rid of ads before the video. thumbs up if it works!

  • hey will whats your opinion on the serve and volley strategy

  • this video is so stupid. i mean if you are playing an experianced player and they see your toss behind you they will know its a kick serve to there bachand and just run around it

  • If you want to become a Great Tennis Player (great match player) go to my channel: (2knowfun2) and watch: World class tennis part 1/2 and part 2/2. Both my videos (lessons) are designed in a very unique way.

  • Yea, this can be very useful for hitting a powerful first serve, especially if you're not that tall because you can add topspin while still hitting aggressively.

  • Serena says it best. Serve me one of those and I will slam it down your throat.

  • My coach tells me to never toss the ball above my head, even for kick serves....

  • Helped me so much. i can finally beat my bro

  • i have to say slow motion kick serves look cool

  • i have a question, i have some trouble hitting the ball when it goes over my head. do u have any drills or workout i could do to get myself used to the habit

  • man you are one of the best coaches i have seen online. great use of vids and explainations.

  • great vid

  • -_-

  • muito bom

  • I wonder how old a kid should be before you teach them this serve. Seems like it puts a lot of pressure on the back and rotator cuff?

  • Making improper motions in any serve puts on a lot more stress... I think you don't have to worry about kids, they naturally do what's right when explained and aren't as stubborn as adults to keep doing something when it hurts them.

  • lol.expert village is no good ?i guess it shud be called noob village.

  • I made an ace today with the kick serve (and a little help of the line )

  • I remember the day when I tried to do a kick serve, which ended up in a shank. At least it went in and it was a killer slice serve! :D

  • You mean topspin serve not kick serve. No twist serve is not the old version and twist versions actual name is American twist and you strike the ball a little ahead of your head and brush across the ball. What your opponent sees is the ball turn into an oval. The ball bounces and shoots off to the side. Good American twist is difficult to return.

  • Where do you hit the ball on American Twist? 7 oclock? 8 o'clock, 9 o'clock?

  • Can you do twist serve?

  • twist serve is the old version of kick serve but if you compare them twist serve has more spin than kick serve

  • lol I really need help with my S.C.U.D. serve, and also drive B

  • hahahahahah

  • lmao then in that case i guess you also need help with your hakugei too huh?

  • hahahah that was a good laugh, thanks

  • @PJrockers lol let's stay realistic mada mada dane

  • @PJrockers I need help with my tsubame gaeshi.... LOL

  • @PJrockers lol good one!!

  • @PJrockers hey mi friend joseph(momo) needs help with his dunk smash

    p.s. really thats his nickname

  • frank serves like moya

  • why u put glue on ur racket!!!!!!!!!!!

  • can i use a semi western grip or eastern for the kick serve?

  • id try eastern' helps wit wrist action and spin.

  • a kick serve is easiest with a continental grip. it takes some getting used to...but nearly every pro uses a continental grip on their serve. but if you can turn your wrist enough with an eastern grip its definitely possibly

  • eastern.

I'd never use semi western if you want to go any higher than high school tennis

  • haha. you can use a continental or eastern backhand.

  • what type of grip do i hold the racket for the kick serve???

  • Should I look at the ball during contact on serves?

  • Yeah it's important not to drop your head on serves because you may also pull your raquet down and hit the ball into the net.

  • uhm... what is a kick serve... i know it's a dumb question, but i'm just kinda wondering. i'm in tennis for Varsity but i have no clue what it is. i just started playing a few years ago...

  • top spin serve - high accuracy - high bounce

flat serve - high speed - high power - low accuracy

  • Not to mention flat serves don't bounce as high~

  • my coach keeps saying to toss the ball in front of me and over my right foot and it's screwing me over like hell. i was doing it good before but he won't let me do my original kick serve which is similar to the one in this video. when i argue he says i'm wrong and blah blah blah. advice?

  • hard for me to advise. i don't know your coach at all so i'm not sure what he's trying to teach you. it's very possible he is on point. all I can say is that what we're teaching is correct.

  • @FYB2007 just a few questions.i have noticed that there are 2 types of stance taken before serving.. to make it obvious, the 1st one is the federer stance (where the feet dont come together), and the other is mostly used by players like rafa(where the feet comes together). so does the stance affect the toss? and the other question is the toss itself. its obvious that federer tosses the ball around 12 o'clock for the 1st/2nd serve but berdych tosses around 1 o'clock. so what is the difference?

  • to use a kick serve you don't toss the ball so much infront. you instead toss it further over your head, wait for the drop and then brush it up... why's your coach tellin you to throw it infront?

  • @skate4life890 your coach is a dumbass you throw the ball behind your head

  • @skate4life890 tell you coach to fuck off ^_^

  • @skate4life890 my coach used to do the same when I hit better with my back hand then what he wanted me to do. A few years on the team and doing it my way still but winning he ended up just letting me use it xD

  • I need a lot help on my kick serves. I try to mimic what I see other people do but the common errors I make are hitting the frame, or when I actually do hit the ball it feels like I am lightly skinning the ball which only goes half way in on my side of the court.

  • Hey have u seen that powerade commerical where roddick serves and the ball get stuck on the floor? is that real or fake? i think its fake but i wanna know ur opinion

  • You think lol? The laws of physics say it is completely impossible.

  • Rodddick has done that before in a clay court. The speed of the serve was 155mph.

  • It's strange how people spout off facts and yet have no knowledge of the situation. Kevin, the powerade commercial is FAKE, as all the powerade commercials are, there are quite a number of them featuring different athletes. BEASOULEATER has simply made up the above statement. Incidently, Roddick's 155mph record serve was at a Davis cup tie on a hardcourt. Yikes....kids...

  • ok i watched another video which is a gatorade commercial. Thank you for clearing this.

  • Sigh, OK, thanks for admitting this. I realize the commercial is well-faked but it is well known as a fake and yes, it's impossible for this to happen. The force of even a 155mph tennis ball pales in comparison to the force of a heelstrike of a 200lb player like Roddick running or jumping. Both players would be crippled in 5 min, if the court were that soft BUT WHY do you (and others) claim it's real when you DON'T KNOW?! I've seen people claiming on here to have been at the match!

  • i wish you were right handed lol.

  • what grip do you recommend using for the kick serve

    to be more specific...

    1. what serve do you use

    2. what serve will generate the most topspin

    3. what serve will generate a decent amount of Tspin but will be more powerful as well

  • eastern backhand grip

  • what do you use?

  • continental for first serve and eastern backhand for second. i change my grip depending on the serve... you don't have to do this tho.

  • thank you ;P sorry for all the questions

  • not a problem!

  • hey is it okay if i use a contental grip?, cuz thats what i use and my friend told me to change my grip so itll be a little more eastern for the kick

  • continental works. some people find it easier to hit w/an eastern backhand. up to you.

  • o so its okay for continental right? whew i thought i had to use eastern xP

  • yep continental is just fine

  • ya i do heavy kick serves on my second serves

  • great job, thanks

  • THESE lessons are AWESOME!!!!

  • great footage

  • awesome.

  • LUV that your left handed

  • tennis rocks

  • fuzzy yellow balls rocks

  • i love tennis.

  • thanks a lot for sharing this vid...

  • Thank's bro this really worked for me ...ohh and bye the way nice vid thank's

  • nice vid thanks for upp5

  • how do rightys learn?!?!

    !@(#!

  • pretty much the same way just right handed

  • u can use a miror in front ur monitor lol

  • Now you know how us lefty's feel about EVERYTHING else in the world. DEAL with it!

  • Well said!

  • Thanks alot for this video!!! I just seem to hit a kick serve accidentally. I think, because of my wrong toss. I was planning to hit it flat, then, it went over my head, so, i had no choice but to bend my knees, and i hit the ball. Then, some weird thing happens and a kick serve comes out.

  • hey stastaljer91 the same thing happened to me a couple times in the same day then i started to get the hang of my kick serve

  • same with me! well , i tried first to just put shit loads of spin on my serve but hit the ball kinda diagnolly across and ended putting loads of spin and top spin on it! now ive pretty much nailed it

  • hay u got this video frome the web site fuzzy yellow balls and yes im talking about tennis

  • omg..thank you thank you thank you thank you

  • arch,

A lefty kick serve hooks to the right (from the server's perspective) but bounces to the left. A righty slice serve would hook to the left and continue skidding to the left.

  • not to be rude, but wouldn't a left-handed kick serve become a right-handed slice serve?

  • yeahhhhh

    nblade to the maxx

  • thanks a lot...

    this one help me!

  • you are most definitely foot faulting

  • xxiie -- Neither one of us is foot faulting.

brian -- I consider the kick serve a twist serve, but some people define it as a topspin serve. We taught it using "my" definition of the kick serve.

  • I really enjoyed the video - I'm a 3.0 player who just moved to 3.5, and I'm finding out that I need a more effective serve to be successful at this level. I am a lefty with a reliable and effective spin serve, but that's about it. I rarely double fault, and the ball spins into the service box and then moves. I really want to add your kick serve. Do you pronate with this serve as you would with a hard and flat serve? (Still learning that as well.) Any info would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hey c3lt1cs I am just curious how the ranking system works in tennis. How can you tell if your a 3.0 player or a 7.0 player? (If there is a such thing).

  • is it okay to make a foot fault when it's a demonstration?

  • Just be thankful for this video.

  • Thank you!

    Thank you!

    I can't thank you enough!

  • is this kick serve pure topspin or does it twist?

  • kick serve is exactly da same as twist.,,

however topspin serve is diffrent coz it doesn't twist,!!

  • No prob guys (and girls :) ), glad we can help.

  • You are a master, thanks thanks, my kick serve are now better!

  • thanks thanks thanks thanks thanks!!

  • Thx Professor...well done !!

  • thank you, you are a great help
