i tried the beats by dr dre at best buy and well they sounded great excellent noise cancellation and high pitch vocals and of course good base in other words you get what you paid for if you want to be cheap then blame yourself if you pay 100 bucks expect it to be okay but not omg amazing. im getting beats.i dont care how much i have to pay i just want good sound and base when it is needed.
@MrVampirekaname that makes perfect sense if you are not making any music. If you are only listening to music, then exaggerated sound is just fine. If you make music, you don't want the headphones to make the music sound better than it is because you need accurate reference. Studio headphones are meant to highlight any audio imbalances or bad mixes
I disagree that the beats are better to be honest.. Also they're not bad for trance or any electronic music. NOW, I'm not saying they're the best, but deffinately NOT bad at all. The beats are over-hyped and over saturated with bass. Some people night like that, but most people who know anything about sound and music know that its not always a good thing to have overly saturated bass.
Hey is english your mothertongue? just because just stop some times in the video but I`m sure you were just a bit nervouse. Just because i`m not english an i speak just as fluid as you do. Anyway thx for the vid, really good even if the Beat-hadphones such the Audio Technica are better and coste just the half.
I have shr440 model, and I have to mostly agree about the comfort, but I don't agree on the cord, I don't find it heavy at all. Sound wise, personally if you listen to hiphop, you shouldn't spend anything more than 50$, just get something comfortable. But for those of us who have decent taste in music like classical, rock, jazz, metal these will (shr440) will be perfect. They Have balanced and all around good bass , imho best (100$ range) mids and subtle highs (don't hurt ure ears at) . 8/10.
i make hip hop beats. would they fit the genre? im not going to spend 300$ for the beats by dr dre... i heard a lot of bad thing about them. plus the thing with the batteries... i don`t like that. so which headphones would you recomend? thanks!
Great review, not sure why many are flaming ya'. I don't see no problem with these being used on events other then for studio, some of us just like sound quality. :) P.S. The beatz are crap. :)
it's a studio reference headphones. that's why the frequency on them are as flat as possible and no dr. dre exaggerated bass and high frequencies..duuuh!!!
Why would you seriously wear these on the bus!? These would no way in hell leave my studio. Thats exactly why If i wanted to, buy a pair of Dr.Dre's to beat into the ground, or some random skull candys if i'm on a budget.
Sorry dude, these are made for studio monitoring, not taking it on the bus >_>
Oh and.. DON'T BUY DOCTOR DRE HEADPHONES!! You need an AMP to get the best bass out of these headphones. Do not buy these if you only have an integrated sound card. The bass in these headphones is GREAT but you NEED an amp! ;) (don't buy dr. dre beats headphones, they SUCK compared to these!!!!)
Oh also, I wear these headphones for 3 - 4 hours per day and I have never had a sore head from these. Some people may be more sensitive but I'm thinking the majority of people won't have a problem! I would DEFINITELY recommend these headphones to anybody getting into higher quality audio!
I like you, and there aren't many people on youtube that I can stand listening to for more than 2 minutes!!! Keep up the good work buddy thanks for the review. I have had these headphones for a year or so and love them, they just keep getting better and better.
@Airman720 They do rock/metal well. This is do to the fact they are not harsh so things won't jump out at you. But i recommend the sennheiser hd 25 1 ii for rock over these.
from 2:00-2:30 i had the same problem with my sony mdr-v700's because of its size it actually damaged the headphone slot on my ipod and had to replace it. and now that ive got amy new ipod i can feel its getting loose again!
its a 9 foot cable because it was made for studio monitoring. those of us that DO use this for actual studio work need this length compared to the kids that use this stuff to listen to ipods. its a HEAVY cord because its meant to withstand industrial use in a studio.
It's a pair of STUDIO MONITOR headphones you MORON! It's not designed for your iPod or your iPhone! It's for serious music production...producing REAL sound...not ear-thumping bass! And that's why the cord is that LONG....you need a long cord in the studio! Don't knock what you don't know anything about...smh...
Whyyyy are people buying studio headphones and expecting them to be appropriate for a freakin' iPhone or iPod?!? o.0 Studio headphones are not casual listening headphones; they're MONITORING headphones - designed for accuracy. Are they accurate?? That's all I want to know.
I have these monitor headphones and the way they make monitors is to balance out all of the bandwidth so that everything is equal so that music mixing is easier. It's just made that way. In my opinion, these are one of the few headphones that dont sound muddy (much like the beats which cost a ton only for horrible muddy low frequency boosts) Btw I LOVE that microphone. Is that a ribbon mic?
I would not recommend buying this cord from other manufacturer. I have shure se310 and as I thought I can safe several euros by buying one cheap cord from conrad. I could hear that my headphones sound worse than they did before. So with headphones like this you have to buy cords from shure or from other company which has the same or even better quality. By the way try a colorfly C4!
Thanks man, absolutely brilliant review, very thorough and gave great real world situations which they are good and are not so good at being in 5/5 :P keep it up
...meh, people just say that by default cause that's what all the basehead little kids want, whether good or not. these days it doesn't matter to anyone whats actually the best so much as hype. same thing with ipod which sucks the big one and one of the big reasons these new base heavy headphones came to market: ipod's eq is absolute garbage.
Why did you even buy these headphones when you are using them in the iphone? If you did some research you would notice that these cans need an amp, just like very other good headphone. No amp = 1/3 of the quality sound you paid for.
Im a Heavy Metal drummer looking for a pair of Noise canceling headphones that I can use to jam with tunes on my drum kit and use them for regular basis as well but I dont want to pay 300-400$ worth of headphones that arent really good any sugestions?
@KindaKevin Audio Technica ATH-M50 have good isolation they don't have active noise cancelling but you can't hear anything outside with them on also they sound great take a look at all the reviews on youtube. If you want bass and really good isolation aswell go with the Ultrasones ie Ultrasone HIFI 580/780 or Pro650/750 series alot of drummers use these.
@Criver12 the beats are bassy headphones, kind of muddy and unclear for their price. these shure are different, they are flat responce monitors. very balanced even frequency across the whole range
You need to run it off a headphone amp. My friend has these and they beat my beats by a longshot. Btw I listen to dubstep and DnB. Looking to get a pair of srh940s cause my studios are not as good. I usually run off my beats off my portable cmoyBB amp.
@wltnm just because they're professional studio headphones doesn't mean they can't be used for recreational listening. they're just not meant for your everyday consumer, just professionals and i suppose the occasional audiophile
You gotta get used to the headband (or stretch them manually); it hurt a ton when I first started using these, but after a few months I can wear them for hours at a time (started out at maybe ~15 minutes) without pain.

severgun 2 weeks ago 9
@severgun Why? If someone happens to have an iphone they can't also be a musician or need studio quality headphones? Shut up already...
Evenhandedview 1 week ago
@Evenhandedview LOL. If you have crap sound source, why you buying pro headphones?
This is like buying corvette with engine from grass-cutter.
You spend 200$ and get sound like 30$ headphones.
Pro headphones must be used with a good DAC, amplifier and lossless audio. Instead of iphone with mp3s.
Also your iPhone and any other mobile device can't pump more than 16-32 Om.
