My last house had a pool and I always had the security gate closed and the back door alarmed and TOLD EVERYBODY to keep it that way for my little girl's sake. I came home from work one day to find my father in law had come over and left the gate wide open and the back door wide open and was nowhere to be found. My little girl was home and not being watched as she was suppose to. Some people are idiots!

I am not taking away (at all!) the grandmother's responsibility to watch the little girl....but the father has posted on other sites and in other forums that there were several people in the pool that day - - - and NONE of them reacted to this child drowning just a few feet away from them!
If this is true then the step-grandmother cannot be completely and entirely blamed for her death!
This is horrible, I refuse to have a swimming pool or pond on my land, the responsibility is too great. I just can't imagine the step grandmother's motives being anything other than innocent stupidity. Are you all thinking she...I don't know, this is a horrible situation. Why would anyone leave any person to swim by themself?

I am so sorry for your loss.My little girl drowned but we where able to save her she was four also.She is now 19.she almost lost her life because she was not being watched and there where five adults there. I was at work and got the call. they where to busy talking an not paying attention. We where one of the lucky ones. I am truly sorry for your loss of a beautiful child

Haylee's paternal and maternal grandmothers both adore her and she was always safe in their care. The step grandmother knew Haylee since she was born, held her the day she was born... Haylee's mother had no reason in the world to ever think this woman would desert Haylee in a swimming pool. She thought the woman was trustworthy. I can't say that I disagree w/you!

Haylee was a very special and beautiful girl inside and out. She seems so sweet, it's a shame she's not on this earth anymore and her step-grandma still is. I don't want to sound too nosy but if it's ok to ask, after this so called "accident" did the grandpa divorce from her or anything, and do they still keep in touch w/ him? Also does step-grandma have any biological children/grandchildren of her own? If it's too personal you absolutely do not have to answer anything.

No the grandpa didn't divorce & no they aren't in touch since this happened. Good question; I've never thought to ask if step-gma has children, but I kind of doubt it. I can absolutely understand ignoring the step-grandma....but poor grandpa lost a granddaughter AND a son or daughter (was it Haylee's mom or dad?). @imacceptingbut : It sounds like you might be assuming that the family not being on speaking terms is the fault of Haylee's mom & dad. Think about this: maybe it wasn't her mom & dad who decided not to be on speaking terms. May I tell you that NO ONE from that BBQ went to the hospital with poor Sonya? Not 1 person went w/ her or went later.She sat there ALONE not knowing if her child was dead or alive for 45 minutes, until MeMaw & Robbie got there. & these people were "family."
@ShelliStuart No - I never assumed the parents were behind the entire family not speaking to grandpa...in fact, I didn't even that know that until your post back to me. I was simply extending my sympathy to the grandfather/dad who basically lost two loved ones in one tragic accident. I would never make ANY assumptions about those dear, sweet parents!
And I'm not sure why the family didn't go to the hospital that day...perhaps they didn't initially realize how critical the situation was.

I do think they knew how critical the situation was, though, because Haylee was already blue when she was pulled out of the water, and neither the BBQ guest who was doing CPR on her nor the ambulance personnel were able to get a heartbeat going. I could never understand why family wouldn't want to go to that hospital, never.

Even i have a 9 year old brother who watches our little cousin thats 2 like nobody was ever there even though there's 10 other people watching him. @carriequigg : Actually, it was Haylee's step-grandmother. Haylee's grandmother (MeMaw) is absolutely wonderful and she adored Haylee as if Haylee were her very own daughter; MeMaw would NEVER have left this precious little darling unattended anywhere, much less in a swimming pool. Step-grandma admitted at first that she said she'd watch Haylee & then left her, but she had changed her story by the next day, so she was not criminally prosecuted. Should have been though.
Haylee's mom has taken her pain and continues to share her angel with us. Love does not die. Sonya I hope that you feel her presence and that you find some comfort in how Haylee continues to touch total strangers. This stranger 's prayers go to you and all those who lost this beautiful child from their lives.
wow...i grew up down thw street from tommy.....i didn't know this had happened and now my heart breaks for tommy and his family. Haylee was a beautiful little girl from her pictures. i guess we will never understand why God took her so early.

There just may not be any reason other than stupidity and the worst kind of neglect and carelessness I could ever imagine. She is a murderer. A lot of murderers seem normal. @ShelliStuart A lot of mentally disturbed people can appear normal. But if she had a loving attitude toward the little girl, then I'd be wondering if there isn't a cog missing somewhere. I've heard of people leaving their kids in cars etc. and they usually say they just forgot. I think there has to be some type of mental problem though. You don't forget a child.
@Avalita07 : It is never an accident when a child drowns and there was an adult who promised to watch that child and then turned their back on her. That's why we have manslaughter laws, etc. Because some things, you just don't get away with. You can't just go "oh, OOPS!! sorry Haylee, sorry Haylee's destroyed family, oops!" Haylee's life was sacred and this was criminal neglect - I say murder.
I watched this from the other side of world. As a parent I cannot imagine the pain of losing a child - no matter what the circumstanceS. I don't know if I would use forum's like YOUTUBE to express my grief. I truly hope it's helped.

1st of all, it was not Haylee's grandma; her grandma (MeMaw) is perfect & Haylee was only in the best of care with her. This was done by her step-grandmother & no, they do not talk to her. She killed their baby.

I so totally have a problem with the fact that this little child WAS SOMEWHAT IGNORED when the STEP-GRANDMOTHER had to answer the phone and she left her in the pool by herself. I am not taking away (at all!) the grandmother's responsibility to watch the little girl....but the father has posted on other sites and in other forums that there were several people in the pool that day - - - and NONE of them reacted to this child drowning just a few feet away from them!
If this is true then the step-grandmother cannot be completely and entirely blamed for her death!

This is horrible, I refuse to have a swimming pool or pond on my land, the responsibility is too great. I just can't imagine the step grandmother's motives being anything other than innocent stupidity. Are you all thinking she...I don't know, this is a horrible situation. Why would anyone leave any person to swim by themself?

I am so sorry for your loss.My little girl drowned but we where able to save her she was four also.She is now 19.she almost lost her life because she was not being watched and there where five adults there. I was at work and got the call. they where to busy talking an not paying attention. We where one of the lucky ones. I am truly sorry for your loss of a beautiful child

Haylee's paternal and maternal grandmothers both adore her and she was always safe in their care. The step grandmother knew Haylee since she was born, held her the day she was born... Haylee's mother had no reason in the world to ever think this woman would desert Haylee in a swimming pool. She thought the woman was trustworthy. I can't say that I disagree w/you!

i know how hard it is to lose such a young person.my cousin passed away at the tender age of 4.he angelversary was 10-12-10.10 yrs in heaven.its still hard but we think about her everyday.needless to say it was also an accident but i will never forgive the person.RIP Haylee Mazzella RIP Lexine Marie Ramirez.both in my heart!

Haylee was a very special and beautiful girl inside and out. She seems so sweet, it's a shame she's not on this earth anymore and her step-grandma still is. I don't want to sound too nosy but if it's ok to ask, after this so called "accident" did the grandpa divorce from her or anything, and do they still keep in touch w/ him? Also does step-grandma have any biological children/grandchildren of her own? If it's too personal you absolutely do not have to answer anything.

I can absolutely understand ignoring the step-grandma....but poor grandpa lost a granddaughter AND a son or daughter (was it Haylee's mom or dad?). Think about this: maybe it wasn't her mom & dad who decided not to be on speaking terms. May I tell you that NO ONE from that BBQ went to the hospital with poor Sonya? Not 1 person went w/ her or went later.She sat there ALONE not knowing if her child was dead or alive for 45 minutes, until MeMaw & Robbie got there. & these people were "family."

@ShelliStuart No - I never assumed the parents were behind the entire family not speaking to grandpa...in fact, I didn't even that know that until your post back to me. I was simply extending my sympathy to the grandfather/dad who basically lost two loved ones in one tragic accident. I would never make ANY assumptions about those dear, sweet parents!
And I'm not sure why the family didn't go to the hospital that day...perhaps they didn't initially realize how critical the situation was.

I do think they knew how critical the situation was, though, because Haylee was already blue when she was pulled out of the water, and neither the BBQ guest who was doing CPR on her nor the ambulance personnel were able to get a heartbeat going. I could never understand why family wouldn't want to go to that hospital, never.

To me this makes absolutley no sense whatsoever. You souldnt have to "promise" to watch a little kid in the pool or frankly anywhere. Isn't that a given instinct? that's just like saying "oh, the tigers won't hurt her!" and leaving her in a tiger habitat. Even i have a 9 year old brother who watches our little cousin thats 2 like nobody was ever there even though there's 10 other people watching him. And i watch my 4 year old cousin even though she can do whatever. Its just sad. R.I.P Haylee :(

@carriequigg : Actually, it was Haylee's step-grandmother. Haylee's grandmother (MeMaw) is absolutely wonderful and she adored Haylee as if Haylee were her very own daughter; MeMaw would NEVER have left this precious little darling unattended anywhere, much less in a swimming pool. Step-grandma admitted at first that she said she'd watch Haylee & then left her, but she had changed her story by the next day, so she was not criminally prosecuted. Should have been though.

It is Australian however, I have a feeling you are in America, so I hope they have support groups for families who have lost loved ones due to drowning. If not, maybe have a look at Hannah's Foundation. The creator of the organisation does tireless work educating others about this silent killer. Rip Haylee. Sorry for your loss. My own grandmother burned out three tea kettles in the first stages of the disease and never thought it was her fault.

There just may not be any reason other than stupidity and the worst kind of neglect and carelessness I could ever imagine. She is a murderer. A lot of murderers seem normal. @ShelliStuart A lot of mentally disturbed people can appear normal. But if she had a loving attitude toward the little girl, then I'd be wondering if there isn't a cog missing somewhere. I've heard of people leaving their kids in cars etc. and they usually say they just forgot. I think there has to be some type of mental problem though. You don't forget a child.

That's why we have manslaughter laws, etc. Because some things, you just don't get away with. You can't just go "oh, OOPS!! sorry Haylee, sorry Haylee's destroyed family, oops!" I just cried my eyes out watching your little sweet angel. I know the pains runs deeper than anyone could ever know, I lost my daughter to SIDS at 7 weeks old. It was the hardest thing for me to go through, it's been 9 years and I still have a big hole in my heart. I am so sorry this had to happen to you, it's so not fair. I see people questioning God and his work. But if you look over 43,000 people watched this. It will do some good in some way that you will never know about. Hold your children close, kiss them good night, and tell them you love them EVERY NIGHT!!!! You never know. And don't leave Christ out of Cristmas! God bless you and MERRY CRISTMAS HAYLEE!!!

This brought back hard memories of my own sons drowning.
Its been a long 8 years he would of been two now.
As a father I miss him so much and long to hold him again. To hear his laughter.
My heart goes out to any family that has lost a son or a daughter.I can't and won't tell you how to feel or candy coat it. But we always talked. .Jesse was/is our son. We love you my boy.
Im so sorry for thier loss. Because of this I have doubts about god an religion. Someone told me it was gods will. I call BS

omg was her mother on miami ink(i think it was).. she got a tatoo of haylee on her back! the pic at 2:02! i think it was her anyway! im not sure!

I really do not know how Haylee's mom copes everyday.I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old and I couldnt live everyday to think about it .I know I would have to be strong for the rest of my family but I could not imagine how her mom does it and seems she does it sooo well.I have watched every video on here about Haylee and she is gorgeous.when you watch these videos it makes you think you knew this babygirl.The video's always make me cry.I didnt know you Haylee but I love you and pray the family!

@addison747 I totally agree how you wonder about how her family handles this!!! I so totally have a problem with the fact that this little child WAS SOMEWHAT IGNORED when the STEP-GRANDMOTHER had to answer the phone and she left her in the pool by herself. I am about to be a Grandmother for the very first time this December 7th, and I can guarantee that MY GRANDCHILD WILL not drown under my care!!!!
